The "Free Radio" Thread

Wow. I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread on this show yet.

I just caught this two weeks ago, and it is one of the funniest shows I've seen in a while.

It airs on Friday at 8:30 CST on VH-1.

The premise is pretty simple, a local radio station has one of it's interns take over for the host who left the show, and he turns out to be a big hit in the ratings.

They have about 3 different celebrity guests on every episode. It seems like it's mostly improved. I laughed out loud at least a few times in the two episodes I've seen. It has a "Dr. Katz" vibe to it with the celebrities and the discussions they have with the DJs of the radio station.

Definitely check it out!

I saw 1 or 2.

Seems to me that this is Borat-style. The regular characters are in on everything, but the celebrity guests think it's a real radio show.

Hmm... I can see why you would think that, but I doubt that.

I'm thinking more Christopher Guest-esque, where there is a simple outline for the show, and they just let the actors go at it.

I don't deny that there's no script, but I'm saying only the cast is on on a storyline at all.

Based on their seemingly genuine reactions to some of the off the wall questions, I tend to think the celebrities think it's a real radio show.

I heard an interview on the radio with the guy on the show, and he says the celebrities all know the premise on the show and how they are actors, but they should try to improvise like it is a real show.

I think it is quite funny.

I've seen a couple of episodes and it's funny. I lost it when the guy got fed up Tony Hawk and told him to "go gleam a cube".

At least VH1 isn't giving us an intentionally comedic and fictional program rather than another celeb dating/reality show.

Did I just see a promo with a bunch of folks, including my girl Kat Von Dee puking after seeing each other puke.

Re: The "Free Radio" Thread

It looks like there will be a season 2! I'm surprised VH-1 didn't play more re-runs of this after the first season wrapped.
