Hasbro releasing GI Joe episodes on DVD (with toys)

Announced today at Toy Fair, from Hasbro's website (some pics also available):

http://www.hasbro.com/gijoe/default....F47059AFCC322F

G.I. JOE vs. COBRA 3-3/4-inch Entertainment Battle Packs

(Approximate retail price $19.99; Ages 5 & up; Available: June 2008 with additional waves throughout the year) Images from the classic 1980s G.I. JOE cartoon series are captured in the new battle packs, which include a 5-episode mini-series DVD and 3 to 4 highly articulated 3-3/4-inch figures pulled from these episodes. The five packs slated for June release are: The MASS DEVICE, WEATHER DOMINATOR, ARISE SERPENTOR ARISE, PYRAMID OF DARKNESS, and G.I. JOE THE MOVIE (1980s).
Maybe they'll finally do something with the rest of the series after all these years. Pretty sweet deal if you're a fan.

Rock on! Thanks for posting this news. I stopped by Target tonight and saw single-packaged Roadblock and Duke (picked them up in the multi-pack last year) and a bunch of empty pegs, so I must have just missed the most recent action figure release. Here's hoping for the next shipment...

What's really awesome, the multi-packs don't just come with the action figures & DVDs, they also come with replicas of the MASS Device and the Weather Dominator.

So how does one get "Arise Serpentor Arise" on DVD then?

These are awesome. I'll buy one just to have an animated version of Lady Jaye!

So you have to open the package to get the dvd out which kind of sucks, because I've been leaving my 25th anniversary Joe stuff sealed. Especially a little diorama scene like is set up in these packs...that's not something you'd want to open.

The picture linked above shows the DVD side by side with the diorama scene...so at least the figure box doesn't have to be opened to get to the DVD. However, I would imagine its all going to be shrinkwrapped together. I started buying the anniversary stuff too, but I couldn't resist opening them and putting them on my shelf. But I only have very few things sealed.

I've been collecting Joes since they came out when I was a kid. The 25th anniversary has been particularly hard to find here in LA, but so far I have all the ones that have been released. Those battle packs are awesome though.

As much as I've love to pick up a few of these episode collections, I'm not really interested in paying extra for the action figures and vehicles. Hopefully stand-alone releases of just the DVDs or (fingers crossed) season sets will follow close behind.
