Recommend me some old classics on DVD
Hey everyone,
So lately i decided i want to get more into classic Hollywood cinema (1940's to late 1950's mostly, but really good stuff from other eras is cool as well), but since i'm not very knowledgeable in this genere, i thought i'd ask some of the experts around here to recommend me some good flicks.
I'm mostly looking for top tier classics.
Here's what i already own and love from this time period, i'm looking for similar titles that are available on good DVD releases, collector editions etc.
1 - Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection
2 - Ben Hur
3 - Casablanca
4 - Citizen Kane
5 - Doctor Zhivago
6 - Gone With The Wind
7 - It's A Wonderful Life
8 - The Ten Commandments
9 - The Wizard Of Oz
Thanks in advance to everybody!

I am not sure if this fits the criteria for "classic" but I HIGHLY recommend
Arsenic and Old Lace- when I was in college I had a friend that refused to watch any older or black and white movies. I gave him that one and he actually called me and thanked me. SHOCK...he loved it!!!!

You missed some good Hitchcock Criterions that went out of print a couple years ago like "Suspicion"(1941), "Notorious"(1946), and "Rebecca"(1940), which I think was his only film to win the best picture Oscar. If you like comedies try anything with Cary Grant like "Bringing up Baby"(1938) or his 2 with Irene Dunne "The Awful Truth" (1937)and "My Favorite Wife"(1940), or maybe some noir like Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake's first film "This Gun for Hire"(1942). "Gilda" (1946) is awesome. All ten Fred and Ginger films are on dvd in 2 boxsets. I found "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938) pretty good, there's a ton of great stuff I think you got some great recomendations to start.
