For those of you not familiar with Dexter...

they will be airing the show on CBS starting Sun. Feb 17th starting from season one due to lack of fresh material from the writers strike.

CBS is going to butcher this... between the foul language and cutting scenes so it fits into the commercial filled hour... Don't waste your time. Just go and rent it or buy it.

The one good thing I can see from this is awareness to increase the number of watchers when it returns to its original form on Showtime.

Wrong. Several published reports have said that not much cutting will be done. The actors had already recorded alternate lines of dialog and the gritty feel will be left in.

What's funny or messed up, is that the majority of the violence probably won't be cut, but any nudity/foul language will be butchered.

Unless they're airing it commercial free, there will be at least 12 min or more edited out. Some of the episodes weren't a full 60 min.. so maybe in some 8 min will be cut.

An average over the air TV episode usually runs about 41-44 minutes. Aren't the Dexter Showtime episodes close to 60 minutes a piece? Then if that's the case, then at least 15 minutes need to be cut with edited gaps for commercial breaks.

Most Dexter ep's clock in around 50 min (or at least Season 2 episodes sure did). They can ditch a lot of the Maria scenes IMO. I'll probably rewatch these just out of curiosity (and to see Season 1 in HD again)... I hope the edits don't ruin the show, but I'm not holding my breath because Dexter does have a LOT of violence and swearing...

I may just re-watch just to see how they pull this off...

Dexter without Lila's tits is like peanut butter without jelly.

+1, I just dont see how they are going to be able to pull off the same feel of the show without it being uncensored. I might catch 1 episode to see how it changes. The commercials though are going to kill the flow of the show. Much like when they ported "The Wire" and santized it, it just wasnt the same.

For those that have the ability Dexter does deserve to be watched in HD. The picture is great . Although I might sacrifice it to watch it uncut is I have never seen it before.

Such a fantastic show. Recording and watching just out of loyalty to it, even though I know the edited version will take away a lot of the luster.
