In Search of Wartime Themed Long Songs

To celebrate Valentine's Day I am trying to put together a collection of songs that deal with falling in love during wartime. Most of the songs I have been able to come up with are more modern (Decemberists, Wilco, Josh Ritter) and while I am interested to hear any modern suggestions I would very much like to add some older songs as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dead Winter Dead by Savatage is about a Serb and a Muslim girl who fall in love in early 90s Sarajevo. It is also a Christmas album. And long.

"Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads. Toward the end the singer refers to his companion and how they make a good team. "you make me shiver" is I believe how he puts it.....

if by wilco you meant Tweedy's cover of When the Roses Bloom Again, then that is the only song you will need.

That is indeed what I was referring to and is used as the centerpiece of the project. I just hope to find enough songs to build around the song.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I will give them all a listen.

Not sure if it's quite what you're looking for but Sleep Station's album "After the War" is a really good album.

As much as I generally don't like the band, "Travelin' Soldier" by the Dixie Chicks is a great song.

How long did you want the songs to be?
