GTA3 "Hot Coffee" Class Action Settlement

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165672

Looks like if you can prove you bought GTA3 before 7/20/05, you are entitled up to $35 cash from Take Two Interactive. Is anyone doing this? Personally, I think it is kind of despicable for anyone to take advantage of this company by squeezing 35 bucks out of them for a game you enjoyed, but that is just me...

I bought it on release day. I have a detailed receipt. No way in hell would I ever claim the money.

I'm hardly "Mr Ethical", but that lawsuit is 100% bullshit and there's no way I'd claim a cent for my "hardship" of playing that game. Now if they offered a rebate on GTA IV, on the other hand....

GTA3 or GTA San Andreas? Not that I bought either of them, but I thought the Hot Coffee mod was on SA.

It's for San Andreas. I just read the link, I doubt any gamer will go for the refund anyway.

I'll pass because A) I have the Xbox version and B) I don't like lying to the court.

I still have the original PS2 game with the mod, but I won't try and collect. It was an awesome game - I wasn't offended in the least.

As a protest and counterbalance to this, I'm going to pick up Rockstar's Bully for the 360, even though I already own and have completed the game for the PS2. Granted, I was possibly buying it anyway, but this 'settlement' and the idea that some vultures will take advantage of it angers me into making this a definite decision.

I bought the game the weekend it came out and enabled the Hot Coffee crack as soon as I heard of it. I laughed heartedly when Carl got a hummer from his girl in the middle of the street right after a gunfight.

The people behind this lawsuit can take the $35 and shove it frankly.

Who keeps a receipt for a video game they bought more than two years ago?

This lawsuit is the typical bullshit. To even see the Hot Coffee, you have to install a third-party mod. You will never see any Hot Coffee in the normal retail version.

What's next, a lawsuit against Tomb Raider because someone made a nude Lara Croft mod? Or how about the mod that lets you run around as a topless female in Oblivion? Or the nude mod for DOAX Extreme Beach Volleyball? Heck, there are probably more games with nude mods than without, especially in PC gaming.

Why?

Your not one of those wierdos that has a huge drawer full of reciepts for every product, grocery or food item you've eaten in the last 5 years are you?

If I could prove it I would take the cash. 35 bucks for a game that is 2-3 years old isn't to shabby.

Not that it makes the lawsuit ok, but I thought the difference was that the code was actually already in the game, just disabled, not something written to change the game, like the other PC mods you're talking about.

Maybe he keeps it filed under G. Just like doughnut receipts go filed under D.

I don't support this. What about all those Take 2 shareholders that have taken a beatdown? It's a ripoff.

What's amazing is that it isn't the '$1 off your next purchase' crap like most class action settlements usually are. And in this case it's for something which is highly questionable to have harmed anyone, gotta love it.

I hold on to receipts for all my DVDs and Video Games, myself. I don't think it's that odd.

Don't hold onto any receipts, but if I did I would take the 35 bucks. Of course then I probably would go buy Bully with it or put it towards GTA4, but oh well.

When did keeping receipts make you a weirdo? I keep all my receipts for tax and return purposes. You never know when they might come in handy. I have had to use receipts for returns/warranties/etc. for as far back as 5 years. And if the IRS comes calling for any reason, I like to have purchase details. I keep them filed with all of my monthly bank statements until my tax man says to throw them out. That makes me a weirdo?

Here's my turn at name-calling. Anyone who enjoys video games and cashes in on this is a douchebag and deserves to travel to Jack Thompson's house and give him a hummer.

What's wrong with keeping receipts? I throw mine in the case behind the instruction manual. Pretty easy to keep track of.

Never bought GTA:SA but even if I did I doubt I would claim this.

Nobody acknowledged my sweet Mitch Hedburg reference. :tear:
