Yes, I understand that. But the OP also said "You can get some of these sets on BN.com in the B2G1F sale." My comment was simply clarifying that sentence... I edited my comment to say "the new $70 retail price." I wasn't trying to dispute the price drop. I was just stating which titles were included in the B2G1F sale...

Hmm, that's a crappy price for R1 sets. You can get each season from R2 UK for about 30 bucks, plus they've got more bonus features. I know the packaging is different, but it really isn't worth paying twice as much for.

Except a lot of people don't like buying R2 sets. My biggest quam with them is that a) you have to go through the trouble of getting/setting up a region free player and b) you can only play your DVDs on that single player, and c) for some reason or another but paying that much for shipping really bugs me - even if it's still a great deal...

$ 325.68 on DD http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=5781589 or $260.54 after 20% off sale.

Heh, I thought that after NINE years everyone's got a region free player, even in US (they were on every corner in Europe on the second year of the format, early 2000).

Yeah, I'd recommend R2 sets for all seasons and all series of Star Trek. If you don't mind the slim amarays over big ugly plastic boxes of R1 and have a PAL compatible TV (or a converting PAL to NTSC region-free DVD player).
Check out DVDCompare.net for details on actualy which special features are where and why R2 is better.

My biggest reason against getting R2 releases is the whole PAL speedup issue....I just can't stand the music and voices being up a pitch, makes everything sound too wonky to me....
Back in the day, I had the UK sets for Angel and Buffy before they were released in the US (my favorite shows and I couldn't wait)....I was more than happy to sell them off on Ebay and get the correct sounding presentations as they became available here....I think Xander had it the worst, sounded like he had suffered some permanent testicular trauma with his voice that much higher...

The entire Voyager Season 1-7 set has now dropped to $260.54 at both Deep Discount and DVD Planet.
I bought it 2 weeks too early and paid an extra $80! Ahh well.
My least favorite Trek - some shows are just painful to watch, but there are still some gems and $260 is a great deal.

You can pick up a Coby player (for example) at Amazon for about $30. Has a small form factor (convenient as a 2nd player) and the code for making it region-free is right in the reviews. Handles PAL, has progressive scan output, etc. (The remote is lame, but it's a cheap and easy way to play DVDs from other regions.)

I see that Enterprise has also come down to a reasonable price as well. I might have to pick up the series set when the next sale comes around, $29 buck a season is hard to beat.
I hated how when the series aired that it was in letterboxed widescreen, but not in HD! That, and my UPN affiliate had the crappiest signal quality over my cable. It would be great to rewatch the series in anamorphic widescreen!

I can't decide between them. The first 2-3 seasons of both kinda sucked, but they each grew into very enjoyable shows. But I agree 1000 percent with your last statement. DS9 just plain sucked. It also got better toward the end, but there was no saving it. Avery Brooks was a terrible captain... and a terrible actor. But that's just my opinion. Still, there were some good eps, and I actually bought every season during last January's B&N sale (when each season was $24 each). I already owned every other ST series, so figured I should complete the set...

Add another vote for "Voyager". While none are as good as TOS, I would rank them:
ST-TOS
Voyager
Enterprise
DS9
ST-TNG
Yeah, I like "Enterprise" better than both DS9 *or* TNG, but that's not saying much as on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being best (or TOS) "Voyager" only gets a 5 with "Enterprise" garnering a 3.

I'm only up to season 3 of Voyager, but so far it's a distant distant fourth after TOS, Next Generation, and DS9 (I like them all for different reasons). Too many episodes of Voyager seem to hinge on them finding some vague technological solution to a problem like "reversing the polarity" of something. My wife and I have been watching all of the Trek series on DVD and went along at a brisk pace until we got to Voyager and then stalled out for many months. We've only recently started trying to get through them again. That's not to say that it's bad by any means, but I can't believe that anyone would put it above any of the previous series. Just my opinion.

I think your favorite Trek will always be the one you started out with. I grew up in the 70's-80's watching Classic Trek (my #1), and was in high school when TNG (#2) came out. I didn't really get into DS9 as much, and I thought Voyager was a HUGE missed opportunity. I did watch Enterprise when it was out, but then, there wasn't much scifi on during that time. :)

You're probably right about that. Nothing will ever top classic Trek. I really got into TNG when it was new, and saw enough of DS9 to think that it may top TNG in my mind once I get around to actually watching them all.
My brief exposures to Voyager and Enterprise left me unimpressed, but I'll still watch them someday.

All of the Star Trek TV Series (Original, Next Gen, Voyager, DSN, Enterprise) are 40% off at BN.com. With a membership that works out to $37.78 per season. With a 25% off coupon (see separate thread for code), that works out to $28.33 plus tax. Complete season sets are an even better deal; Voyager and DSN are 50% off (for instance, with discount, membership, and coupon, Voyager seasons 1 to 7 would be $177.23 or $25.32 per season, plus tax; total includes $4.99 shipping, no free shipping allowed due to bulk).

Ready to join & buy Voyager and TNG (possibly).
Please advise. BTW, is there a time factor (expiration date) ?
Thanks.
May have found a code but a direct link would help. On another question,
if I am to buy Voyager & TNG, do I order them seperately using the 25% code for each OR will the 25% apply for BOTH items. I read that it's off the highest priced item unless it works out differently.

You need to enter two separate orders. And each code can only be used once. I think there is only one 25% off code anyone can use (W8Y9L7M). There is also a 20% off code for members only (F8E7D7L). Also a 25% off code if you are creating a new account when you place the order (A8P8N9P). The first code expires April 15th. Don't know when the sale ends, but you might order one set with the first code and take your chances that another 25% off code will appear before the sale ends.

Don't forget to use the Visa link (in B&N thread) to save an additional 5% off each order...

Thanks for the suggestions. I also have to pay $25 to be a B&N member adding to the total cost. So reading this correctly,
1) first join (new account) and use A8P8N9P for 25% off plus $25 (to join)
2) second go back and order the 2nd set and use W8Y9L7M.

Probably the same thing I did...namely, wait too long to decide. Although it might reappear before the sale is over, I'd bet that B&N has pulled a DD (who infamously pulled/cancelled some of their B1G1 sets such as Stargate, X-Files, etc....i.e., most of the better deals...during a sale last year). I can't say that I wasn't aware that delaying ordering wasn't taking a risk, but it's hard to believe that their entire stock of Voyager is gone.
Guess I'll just buy a few of the more highly-rated seasons on Amazon (where they're still around $35, or about $7 more than getting them with the complete set. Since I was never that big a fan of Voyager (would like to watch the series through once & then probably sell most of them), it's not a major loss. Still, the procrastination bug is annoying. Hopefully, the other sets I was contemplating are still available.
