Well, if your DVD player breaks you may as well get an HD replacement since HD DVD players are as cheap as upconverters now, but if you're prepping for the 'HD era' you may as well go Blu-Ray.

quick question.
I know BR can hold more data than HD DVD. Wouldnt the quality of BR be better?

In terms of video, not necessarily. I own both and they both produce a fantastic picture assuming the transfer of the movie itself is in good shape. The maximum bitrate is higher on Blu-ray so hypothetically it could produce a better picture but at a certain point you hit a point of diminishing returns. I haven't measured it, so I can't tell you for certain.

In terms of audio, Blu-ray has the capacity to add lossless tracks on almost all of their releases so they get a plus one in that catagory.

Even if you did have a HD DVD player, it wouldn't be a doorstop. They still make fantastic upconverting players and your HD DVDs won't explode.

Well that is the default forum for that material, I very rarely go there myself, but then again I have no interest in hdm at the moment.

I would return that Sony Blu Ray player and buy a PS3. They are cheaper and better in every possible way except for the remote.

The PS3 loads a disc much faster then even my A3. It is a strong up converting DVD player for SD movies is super easy to update firm ware thru a wireless network.

The remote issue is the suck.

I'm going with the PS3 and one of these.

If the remote issue that it doesn't have an OFF button? That's easy to "fix" ... hold the PS button for 2-3 seconds, X, X, and it's off. I love the PS3 BR remote.

If you are only getting one format then go Blu-Ray. PS-3 is the best choice for now because you can upgrade all the software updates very easily with the built in WiFi. There will be several software updates coming since the technology is so new.

I returned the Blu-ray player and got the PS3 instead. With the BR remote, the remote don't seem that bad. Question though there is so many video settings not sure what to set it on. I have a Mitsu. 57" DLP I turned on HDMI but there is all these other options. Any help?

PS3 doesn't have resume after you turn it off. That wouldn't stop me from buying one but it is annoying.
