I have a Samsung DLP (5067 I think) that's about 2 years old. I have a cable box, PS3, HD DVD, DVD (for all region) plugged into an Onkyo 875 and to the tv via HDMI.

About 2 weeks ago I started getting strange colors no matter what my source was. It's hard to describe but it's neon green, blue, red, orange colors where regular colors should be. And it's not all over the screen but in random bars that change size depending on what's on the screen.

At first I thought it was the video processing in the Onkyo but I plugged the cable box and then the PS3 directly into the tv and I get the same result. Is this the lamp dying in the DLP or something wrong with the mirrors or color wheel? I assume it's the lamp but I don't want to replace it and spend money on a replacement bulb if that's not the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Could be the set, but 1st make sure your HDMI cable is plugged in all the way, and that their are no little foil prongs bent/broken off on the female receptor for the HDMI, I find that those little prongs can get bent up/broken rather easily...

Yeah I thought it could be the cable also so I tried 3 different HDMI cables and same result. I'll have to check the receptor for the HDMI. The female connection is on the tv or the cable? So it doesn't sound like a bulb issue to you?

Just remembered that my cable box is hooked up directly to the tv right now through component cables and the problem still shows up so I don't think it's the HDMI.

then yeah, I can't think of anything else that it might be other than a bulb issue. I have a Samsung LED DLP RP TV, so not the traditional bulb... so I really can't be of anymore (any?) help...

try www.avsforum.com ... the real techheads live there.

Thanks, I was trying to avoid AVS. Wading through that forum sometimes is an overkill in terms of information.

I vote: Color Wheel needs to be replaced.

Is a color wheel replacement something I can do myself or will I need a tech to come out and do it? Any idea on the costs?
