Does anyone know the 1970s TV lineups for ABC, CBS and NBC? For example, I know Tuesday nights on ABC was Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Three's Company and Too Close For Comfort. But what was opposite them on the other networks?

That Saturday night lineup for 1973 (All in the Family, M-A-S-H, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, The Carol Burnett Show)
was a juggernaut, all Hall of Fame shows.

Now Saturday Nigths are a wasteland for repeats and reality, times have changed ineed.

CBS ruled saturday night in the 70's and then decided they wanted to rule monday night instead and moved everything there.

I've been recently thinking how cool it would be to have a device like a giant iPod, where you could take all your DVDs, rip them to the drive, then have them put in order by release date (theatrical release date or original TV airdate). If you had enough TV on DVD sets, you could start replicating original programming lineups like you folks are posting here.

With the studios' paralzying fear of piracy, it's just a pipedream, I know, but it's still a cool idea IMHO.

It was a cultural shift. Back then, no one thought staying at home on a Saturday night to watch television was a bad thing. But then later on, at some point, the cultural view shifted to the view that anyone who doesn't go out on Saturday night and instead stays at home to watch TV was a "loser" and the TV ratings for that night declined a lot. So now Saturday nights are just a dumping ground for the networks because the ratings are generally low no matter what they show.

I think it was Thursday. Not sure. I seem to remember it and Taxi being on the same night. When Soap first started our local affiliate wouldn't air it in prime time, showed it around 11pm on Fridays.

Thurdays 9:30pm on ABC, following Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley and Three's Company. It's network competition was One Day At A Time (CBS) and the second half of Mulligan's Stew (NBC).
