As posted in the DVD Bargains forum:

Here's a 30% off code for DVDs at WHV. ANWBTS Expires ?

Not sure if they ever fixed all the problems but if you want to take a chance the coupon appears to work on all DVDs and pre-orders.

Quite a few GREAT BDs end up under $14 shipped (with orders over $50 and tax exempt states). BBC The pre-order price for the MEGA BBC Planet Eart/Galapagos/etc... set comes out to under $100, and Dirty Harry is under $70!!! I went crazy and bought the store. Remember that New Line and BBC titles are available here as well!!! I can't think of any other studios that are.

Are the Paramount re-issues full price or in the $19.99 range? And does anyone know where they're on sale? Specifically "Sky Captain", "Italian Job" and "Sleepy Hollow".
Target didn't get the memo on some of them. They were selling Disturbia and Blades of Glory for $34.99 when I stopped in yesterday.

both of what?

He means both titles, Disturbia and Blades of Glory. Paramount's reissues of formerly day and date titles that are now catalog titles are about $30, which means a $20 street price.

Most likely its just a normal Wal-Mart GC with a $100 credit on it. Though, it may be shaped like a Blu-ray case? Sounds kinda neat...collectible even.

At the Warner Bros. online store, they have Torchwood Season One Blu-ray pre-order mispriced, I believe for $59.95. The retail at BBC America shop is $99.98. You can enter code WRNM for 20% off, which knocks it down to $47.96. If you order something else that puts it over the $50 mark, you get free shipping also. BTW, I have had good experiences with WB over the last few months.

How is the That's Entertainment set? I was thinking about getting that with the WB store coupon. I could get that and Dark City for about $55, which is the same as paying the regular Amazon price for TE and getting DC for free. I just have the first TE film, not the sequels on DVD, so it's not a complete double dip (and the DVD was a gift anyway).

However, I read that some are being charged sales tax. Is that everywhere?

Per blu-ray.com:

Wal-Mart has revealed that any consumer who purchases a Blu-ray Disc player between June 8th and 14th will receive a free $100 gift card. In addition to the Sony BDP-S300 ($388), which thay have been selling for some time now, they have added the Magnavox NB500MG9 ($298) as well as Blu-ray players from Samsung and Panasonic..

I believe the early word was PS3 only, but now it includes all of their players. That Magnavox is tempting as a backup unit. I believe the insides are Panasonic and Sony parts.

Out of the standalone players, the Panasonic is the highest rated. It's also the most expensive. Walmart pricing: Panasonic $448, Samsung $348.

I have the Panasonic and it is a very solid, reliable player. The new Samsung has been getting good ratings. But for a bargain, the Magnavox is probably a safe choice. I know it uses a Panasonic chipset, but may also have Sony parts. It's also profile 1.1 and bitstreams lossless audio. I may get it as a backup unit.

its only a good price, because they were so ridiculously priced to start. its still works out to $114 for 1 season of a tv show...

Ha! I never really even thought about it like that, but it's so true. Well, on both counts really. The sets are normally ridiculously priced, even the standard versions, and look at how much you're paying for a full season.

I'd say that's the main reason I never have finished my Sopranos collection. They're just too damn expensive! That's what makes it that much easier to turn this offer down.

Thats $4 more each then they would have been at almost any BOGO last year.

The selection is OK, although I would imagine anything that has a BD player already have a movie or two from that bunch.

Wal-Mart 2 for $25 on select titles:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7966201

Don't waste your time, these sales come and go quickly. I've missed it at least the last few times.

I'm in for:

1) Apocolypto & Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

2) Enemy of the State & Pearl Harbor

3) Gone in 60 Seconds & King Arthur

4) Great Raid & Reign of Fire

Shipping is a bit high ($19.76 for my order and about $5 for 2 discs shipped), and there's no pick up at store option.

For Canadians who visit Futureshop: my local store still has a dump bin of HD DVDs that for the most part are still overpriced (that's why it's still near full), but after digging through the bin, I did find and picked up Zodiac and Beowulf for $14.99 each. Currently not a bad price at all for these particular two HD DVDs. :)

A warning about Tower.com: they are now owned by Caiman.com, who are in my opinion one of the worst retailers on the internet. They drop-ship just about everything. Not sure if this will be true for all Fry's, but the Fry's in IL seems to have received a large quantity of WB HD DVD stock to clear out. Nothing is really at "clearance" prices yet, but they seem to be gearing up for something.

They had a full panel loaded with Matrix Trilogy sets. The Complete set was selling for 34.99 - didn't check to see if they had the Ultimate Collection. They probably had close to 50 copies shelved. They also had a full panel of Planet Earth sets. Didn't catch the price, but again, they had a ton of them.

Most single disc WB HD DVD's were restocked too. All the non-combos I checked were 11.99. This was actually true of all the Uni non-combos as well, but they didn't have many of those.

They had quite a few copies of Casablanca, Forbidden Planet, Galapogos and most other WB titles. This may be the last hurrah - I can't imagine they're going to give half of one side of an aisle to HD DVD for very long.

Well I wasn't going to blind buy Vantage Point, but that price is hard to resist. Hopefully this will sell well and prove to the powers that be that the pricing should be like this all the time. (Dare to dream!)

I thought the same thing with "I Am Legend," but that didn't really change any minds.

Men in Black down to $18.95 on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Men-Black-Blu-ray-Will-Smith/dp/B0017APPT8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1213902208&sr=8-1). It should also have the sticker on the outside of the slip cover to get $7.50 towards a ticket for Hancock, assuming somebody for Amazon hasn't stolen the sticker yet.

So Fry's is running a sale on HD DVD's this weekend, but not as good as I had hoped.

They have about 18 titles pictured of WB HD DVD's for 9.99 each. I don't have the ad in front of me, but the titles I remember are Superman Returns, Battle Of The Bulge, Excalibur, Constantine, Galapagos, Clockwork Orange, Blue Planet and some others.

The Complete Matrix Trilogy set is 24.99 down from their regular price of 34.99. Pretty damn good deal for that IMO.

Well the other thing is, previous DVD incarnations were 4:3 - there's a whole large debate on whether some Kubrick films were supposed to be 4:3 or 16:9.

The new version is 16:9.

From what I've seen of The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut (all Kubrick films which originally released on DVD as 4:3), they appear to have been composed for 16:9 but protected for 4:3.

I own the Sharp and would not highly recommend it. It is a profile 1.0 player and is extremely slow loading java. Menus are also sluggish and it doesn't support features like bookmarks on discs that have it. Only upside is Sharp has been pretty frequent on firmware updates, but of course they have to. No Country for Old Men and Jumper among others all had issues with this player upon release and needed new firmware.

I have had really good luck with the BH200 from LG. It is fast for a standalone, has no trouble with java and is currently a profile 1.1 player with the capability of being 2.0 at some point. It also plays HD DVD which may or may not be a big deal. It is also easily hacked to play BDs from any region and region free for DVDs. It doesn't convert PAL to NTSC though so your HDTV needs to be able to handle a PAL signal for DVDs. Mine does so this player has been great.

Gold Box for 7/3: Black Hawk Down on Blu-Ray for $14.20

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Hawk-Down-Blu-ray-Hartnett/dp/B000G0O5N2/

... in case anyone is interested in saving and extra $0.75. ;)
It's not in the Gold Box. I'm pretty sure that's one of your Quick Picks on the Gold Box page, so the discount only applies to you.

Good looking out Cinema! I was waiting for under 20 on this but I can live with 23.95.

I think it was at 23.95 at some other point, as my original order was 25.95 and i have a record of a $2 refund on the order.

I may bite on this one as well. This is a must have I don't mind going over $20 for. I just wish it would show up in my Gold Box quick pick so I could get an extra 5% off.

I had already seen it in my Gold Box and had ordered it, but I think that was keeping it from being updated to the new price so I cancelled that order and replaced it for $39.99.

I have a feeling this will pretty much stay at $40 like the National Treasure 2-pack has.

Yeah, that's what I think. I'd expect to pay less for a 2-pack than what they would cost separately at the usual price ($48). In any case though, I'm waiting on reviews after the Gangs of New York travesty.

Next time just e-mail them... Whenever a price drops on a product that you ordered/pre-ordered via Gold Box discount, they will adjust the price. You'll still get the Gold Box discount, it will just be based off of the 39.99 price.

For Canadians who have a Giant Tiger store near them, they have a bin of HD DVDs on sale for $6.88 each. Titles may vary per store, but the ones I saw included Bourne Ultimatum, Children of Men, Alpha Dog, Hollywoodland, Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift, Smoking Aces, The Break Up, The Good Shepard, Mr Bean's Holiday. This is off the top of my head, there were several other titles too.

$37.99 if you can get it as a Quick Pick in your Gold Box.

I think this worked for me by adding the set to my cart and letting it sit there for a couple days. Not positive, though, because my recommendations and Quick Picks are all messed up.

I've heard before that adding things to your cart and leaving it there can result in it getting into your gold box. Kind of odd.

That may just be because they tend to put things you search for or look at in there. If it's in your cart, you've looked at it.
