I can watch Aliens without watching Alien, right?
I just wanted to make sure.
To make this thread somewhat useful list sequels/prequels that can be watched out of order with no spoiling anything in the previous film.
I can think of a couple:
James Bond films (for the most part)
The Die Hards
There has gotta be more out there...

I wouldn't recommend it unless you already know what an Alien looks like and how an Alien is born. (chances are you do). Even then, there are some other plot points that would would make seeing them in order preferable.

I recommend Alien 3, the assembly cut especially. If you look at as a trilogy about Ripley, it's a good arc.
I wouldn't watch the series out of order, though. It feels better to see how Ripley's character progesses.

I saw Aliens first (in the theaters I was 10) and couldn't make it through the movie, I left scared shitless at the first "motion tracker" scene. Good god that scared me.

I would honestly recommend you make an event of watching the first 3 ALIEN films back-to back-to back. Watch the director's cut of ALIENS and the assembly vut of ALIEN 3.

I think watching Aliens before Alien would ruin both movies, really.
One of the strengths of Alien is the unknown, the anticipation, it's a very different film and watching the action-fest (meh) that is Aliens will probably alter your expectations for the original and then disappoint you.
And then, you'll probably love Aliens because it'll just be a cheap action flick to you, because the actual thematically deep elements of the plot carried out through that android character you will miss out on, because you won't know what happened with Ripley and the other android character in the first movie...

Same here. Wasn't around to see the first, but watches Aliens first and loved it. Didn't need anything to follow it.

In answer to the thread title: Yes. Of Course. Go ahead.
ALIEN is a great horror film, but you already know how it ends, so seeing ALIENS first isn't gonna ruin anything.
And after 20 years, everyone is familiar enough with the basics of the series, that you don't need the first movie to get anything in the second.

Actually, just avoid the last two movies in the Alien series.
I saw "Aliens" before I saw "Alien" and I did not run into any problems.

You can watch the many Bring In On and American Pie spin-offs/sequels without watching the orignals...
You can watch the Indiana Jones movies in any order.
You could watch the Terminator movies in any order. Well, I definitely watched T2 before renting the first one, and it made no difference.
