Favorite movie musical of this decade (2000)??
I just saw it again last night and man do I love me some "Dreamgirls"!! It just has every element I love about movies and that it was so well done and emotional doesn't hurt.
I'm watching "Hairspray" again now because I thought that one was fantastic as well, but man I never in a million years thought i would love this generation of movie musicals and biopics as much as i have.
Forget the poll. Choices include...
"Chicago"
"Rent"
"Dreamgirls"
"Once"
"Hairspray"
"Across The Universe"
"Moulin Rouge!"
"Enchanted"
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch"
"Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"
"The Corpse Bride"
"A Nightmare Before Cristmas"
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
Other, please specify...

Having yet to see Sweeny Todd, I'm gonna have to go with Chicago. I'm of the very small minority that thought it deserved it's Best Picture win in '03.

Moulin Rouge really caught me by surprise when i finally got around to seeing it on video after its theatrical release-to the point i was kicking myself for not seeing on the big screen.

1. Hedwig And The Angry Inch
2. Sweeney Todd
3. Moulin Rouge
4. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (although I hesitate to call it a musical so much as a movie with a few pop/rock sequences in it)

Wow, I didn't realize just how many great musicals there have been this decade, until I saw them all listed in this thread. My favorite has to be Hedwig and the Angry Inch, but I also loved Chicago, Rent, Dreamgirls, Hairspray, Sweeney Todd and Moulin Rouge. And one that hasn't been mentioned yet, Corpse Bride. I wanted to see Across the Universe while it was playing, but didn't get around to it, so I'll blind-buy it next month.
Oh, and I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too, but I don't consider that a musical.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Once.
Moulin Rouge and Sweeney Todd come close. If Reefer Madness was released theatrically, it would be up there as well.
I can't believe all the love Across the Universe is getting in this thread, especially considering how much of a fucking abomination it was and ranks up there with some of the worst films I've seen all decade.
