Day of the Dead (Remake) ---> 4/08/2008
"It looks like the film is bypassing the supposed theatrical release and going straight to DVD via First Look Home Entertainment on April 8th. So far, you can expect a commentary track with writer Jeffrey Reddick, director Steve Miner and some of the cast members. An "Internet Only" trailer and alternate ending will also make an appearance."
Any thoughts on this release? The fact that this being released straight to DVD has me a bit worried. The tagline says "The need to feed". Gimme a break.

Yikes...what a terrible cover. I'm sure I'll give this a rent but I'm definitely not expecting much based on a trailer I caught earlier.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Jeffrey Reddick this year for about half hour about a bunch of random bullsh!t, but it seems that he's quite displeased with this film. He said that the company didn't option the original script, so he couldn't reference none of the other zombie movies (classic or new) and couldn't use names/characters and such from the original. He wrote his script based on missing scenes from the original script for Day of the Dead (see it on DotD Anchor Bay dvd) - movie was taking place in the underground base and lots of other stuff.... When the movie went into production budgetary and other things changed pretty much everything (as he said) and his direct quote was "I wish they'd call it something else". He didn't go as far as to say that he's ashamed to be associated with such a project and recommended to check it out anyway if I like modern zombie movies... He seemed pretty honest saying that too

What, it's not going theatrical?!?!?!??!!? I'm stunned!
Seriously, I had at least some hopes for it being directed by Steve Miner, but that cover doesn't help it at all....

In the trailer the movie looks absolutley nothing like the original. It's probably not even really a remake, just a zombie flick with the same title as Romero's. I mean in the original the world is on the brink of extinction... in this one it looks like it's just started happening.
And Ving Rhames is in this remake as well as the Dawn remake, but he's not plaing the same character? That seems kind of... pointless.
