No matter how hard I try to stop, I can't stop whistling the theme song of THE GODFATHER. I'm not that into the movie, nor do I own the DVD, but it's the song that I always end up whistling probably for the past 15-16 years (i'm 31 now). I think I may have known the song even before seeing the movie...The other song is the theme song from the French masterpiece Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring, which actually sounds very close to THE GODFATHER theme song. Sometimes the two songs even merge.

Here's the Jean de Florette theme song if anyone's curious:

Here's the Godfather theme song to hear the comparison:

Anyone else plagued by whistling the same song over and over througout one's life?

The Mission: Impossible (the TV series version, not the horrible Tom Cruise movie mix) theme song is highly contagious and I often find myself whistling the tune repeatedly. I'm currently working through season 3 of Mission: Impossible on DVD, so that's why it's stuck in my head. The Hawaii Five-O theme song is another one I hum a lot, while and after I've watched the show on DVD. They don't make TV show theme songs like they used too.

No.

I usually just hum/whistle/sing whatever songs I'm currently into. There's not one recurring theme thus far.

The theme from "Emmanuelle". It's a curse.

I will randomly start grooving to a generic techno beat ala Brodie Bruce.

Wow, I've never met anyone else who had this problem. For me it's the Flintstones theme. For as long as I can remember, I'll find myself uncontrollably humming or whisting it several times a day. I've come to grips with it over the years and it doesn't bother me anymore.

And as an added bonus, every once in a while I can change the lyrics in my head to:

Simpson - Homer Simpson
He's the greatest guy in history
From the town of Springfield
He's about to hit a Chestnut tree!

The Barber of Seville: Overture (ever since I saw Breaking Away, or perhaps it was Rabbit of Seville?)

The "Black Leather, Black Leather, Smash-smash-smash!" theme song from the great, under-rated Brit flick "The Damned" (1961). There's a gang that wanders about being violent, and they occasionally whistle this melody as they go about their business, and that's what goes through my head. I only saw this film once, late at night on TV, probably 25-30 years ago, but that tune sticks with me. Hmmm... Time to order another R2 DVD methinks!

For about 3 years in the early 90's, every single day at some point the horn portion of Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al" would pop into my head for about an hour.

I had no idea why.

Heh, that's awesome. That song is the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread. I don't think I'd want to live in the same house as that bird though.

For some reason, the Urukai theme from the LotR movies gets stuck in my head alot, although I don't tend to whistle it.

Every since I was a kid I would always whistle the theme to the Incredible Hulk theme. Used to irritate my mother.

I do the same thing but I change the words to say "If you only had a brain". I usually have this song going through my mind when speaking to people like my husband or my eldest child.

I can't whistle but i have been humming that song "Nothing form nothing leaves nothing....you gotta have something...." for about 6 years now. I dont even think i really like the song that much but its kinda catchy I suppose.
