The Assasination of Jesse James: 2-5-2008
From DVDActive FYI
Warner Home Video has officially announced The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford which stars Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard, and Molly Parker. This Andrew Dominik directed film will be available to own from the 5th February, and should retail at around $27.95. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. As far as we know, no extra material will be included on this one. We will of course let you know if that changes.
Available a few weeks later on the 26th February will be HD-DVD/DVD Combo and Blu-ray releases of the film. As well as high definition presentations, each release will include a 30-minute Death of an Outlaw documentary that explores the roots of the legend Jesse James and how he has become a man so many people remain interested in talking about 100 years after his death. Each will retail at around $24.99.

This looks like another rush job to get the dvd out before the Oscars leaving off the features. A 2-disc has to be on the way. Didn't the same thing happen to Flags of Our Fathers last year?

If you're waiting for a 2-disc, you might be waiting a long time. This movie barely made $10 million total in theaters (including overseas). It's a great movie but was a huge disappointment for Warners, which hasn't really been supporting it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were just dumping it on video.

Might go for the HD-DVD if it's around $20 or so (since the SRP is $24.99).

Warner doesn't really do double-dips on newer movies - they either put out a 2-disc and and single-disc out at the same time, or they take years to put out a good SE after the initial release. I'll be getting the HDdvd - one of the best movies of the year.

I will get this also. Did not see the movie in the theatre. Too bad this movie did not do that well. Being a fan of Western's, I would like to see a resurgence of the Western movies.
