Searching for B-Movie Bonanzas...?
We've had cable in our home since the beginning of the 80's and recorded endless amounts of very bad, yet incredibly fun movies to watch. All the videos are now beginning to become unwatchable especially in this day and age of getting used to HD.
We're not looking for HD or even high quality DVD versions of these films, of which there are hundreds of from the 1950s to the early 90s. These are the fims which are too "bad" to ever receive proper single-disc DVD releases, but would be perfect in bulk DVD collected sets.
We have seen some of this schlock appear in some boxed sets which claim to have "50 Movies" or "100 hours" and so forth. When buying these cheap boxed sets, which companies should be avoided, if any? Also looking for suggestions of any particular boxed sets which contain such guilty pleasures (especially 80s horror, sci-fi & fantasy)?

I have done a little research on my own and see two companies that do this are called MILL CREEK ENTERTAINMENT and DVD MEGA PACKS. Are these the only two companies who release boxed sets like this? Are they the best if they aren't?

I have some of the Mill Creek movie packs. They contain a plethora of public domain B and even Z quality films that are hard to find elsewhere. Don't expect great great quality, typically there are 4 films on one double sided single layer disc so compression artifacts abound on top of the already degraded prints. Mill Creek also sometimes places obttrusive watermarks on the films. Don't expect widescreen either and don't bother trying to watch on a hi-def monitor. They're fun and cheap if you just want to watch some really cheesy flicks. If there are specific titles you want though, I would seek them out individually with a focus on finding good quality transfers. I particularly like Mill Creek's Drive-In Movie Classics set (Classics is a pretty liberal description) and I have a couple more sets too. There some guy on Amazon that reviews a lot of these Mill Creek sets and gives you a breakdown of each movie on each set. He/she must be some kind of movie watching maniac.
