Should we continue the "spending tab" thread?

It's almost that time again to close out the existing one and start a new one. Before doing so I just wanted to get some feedback about whether or not people like the idea of the thread and want it to continue, don't like it or don't care either way. It really does take much to create/maintain it but if people don't want it there's no need to continue doing it

Just curious...
thx

I love the "spending tab" thread, and I'm surprised that 5 voted "Don't see the point of it, doesn't bother me either way", and 2 people have voted "Waste of Space, please don't do it again", yet only 2 (3 including me) have voted "Use it, like it, please keep it," thus far.

This site is called DVD Talk, and prices are a pretty big part of DVDs, IMO.

115 members are using it (some haven't updated; but still), I'd like it for years to come.

Used it once, got busy with other things, don't care one way or the other... It's just a sticky that I barely notice as is... If it makes some folks happy, let em' have it.

It also looks like most people didn't make it through the whole year.

Definitely keep the spending tab - it's the only way I can keep track of my addiction! Also it's nice to be able to look back and see how much money I saved on individual titles, it gives me a feeling of superiority.

Keep it. I like to sit in awe at what some people spend.

I didn't do it this year, but I probably will next year.

It's easy for me since I usually only buy DVDs once a year w/DDDVD's 20% of June.

used it... dunno if i liked it because it actually brought to my attention just how much i spend on DVDs... but in a way that helped curb my spending also... i'm for keeping it.

JESUS CHRIST! I just went over there for the first time (I initially voted "Don't see the point of it, doesn't bother me either way"), and what an incredible waste of time! I wish I could change my vote to "Waste of space, please don't do it again"! I mean, really, who CARES what you (or I) spend on DVDs, and if it's important enough to be keeping threads off the main page (now keeping two threads off the main page, thanks to this one), maybe you should keep a ledger (or something to keep track with) at your house.

"Waste of space, please don't do it again"!

I've updated mine every week for the last year and only discovered it the year before that (or so)... I think we should keep it for sure!

People get enjoyment out of it so I say keep it.

For me, personally, I was updating for about half of the year before I lost interest in it and just deleted my post. Plus, I didn't like having my spending trends in front of my face like that

Guilty. I completely forgot to update it for two months. Then I started thinking about what I spent in those two months... and I realized I didn't want to know exactly.

I'm hoping owning up again in '08 will keep me on the straight and narrow.

...been hoping that for a few years now.

Came in to DVD Talk too late to join in for 2007, but may give it a go for '08.

I voted for "other", because my vote is a hybrid of these two:

Didn't use but may try it next year
Don't see the point of it, doesn't bother me either way

For me: Don't use it, doesn't bother me either way

I don't plan on trying it next year, but I DO see the point in it.

I started one, but I lost heart partway through. I'm not sure if I'll do it again next year, but I say keep it.

Yet the "what are you getting this week" threads seem to be very popular. The "spending tab" is essentially just an archival version of that IMHO.

Only for people who buy DVDs at a B&M. I rarely ever buy any DVD at a B&M (maybe 1 a year because I got a Best Buy gift card?), so the "what are you getting this week" thread is essentially useless to me. I do a lot of pre-orders and waiting for the DDD 20% off sale, so that thread is not really valid for those people who buy pretty much everything online.

Waiting for the 20% off sale I can see, although I suspect if you marked which ones you were eventually going to get even if you didn't get it the week of release no one would care. I don't see where pre-ordering from an online store makes a difference though. Even if it shows up early (or late) it's something that you've order for that week so you put it down. In the few times I've done anything w/ the "what are you getting" thread that's what I've done since I also hardly ever buy anything from B&M anymore.

Even though I sometimes participate in the "what are you getting this week" thread, I often use it primarily to see a relatively thorough list of what's coming that week.

My opinion? Why sure I'll give it to ya! Kill both of those lame threads; just a list would be fine.

Point taken. I do very rarely pre-order, though. I shouldn't have lumped that with the 20% off sales, though. I kind of keep tabs on whether things would be cheaper if I bought them now vs. the 20% off sales, if they go below, I'll pull the trigger. Obviously I keep track on the bargains thread too.
