Universal's 9 Disc Gangster Collection: American Gangster, Casino, Scarface, Carlito
This was on the adsheet for American Gangster on DVDactive.
What interests me is that it's a 9-disc set. If it only includes the four movies, that means the Casino Anniversary Edition and Carlito's Way Ultimate Editions are being issued, finally, as two-disc sets and not Universal's horrible, terrible flippers, plus a bonus DVD.
I love Casino, like Scarface, want to see American Gangster and didn't hate Carlito's Way so if this is what's going on I might pick this set up.

I've seen Scarface, but don't own it. I haven't seen Casino yet, but I want to see it. Never seen Carlito either, but I'll give it a go, and I want to see American Gangster, and was going to buy the DVD anyway.
If the price is good, this will be a great buy.

What makes two discs so much better than a flipper disc? You still have to get up to change it, and if it is just for the artwork, most dvds coming out now don't have disc artwork anyway.

In any case one of the movies in question is Casino, a movie deserving of the two disc treatment despite the extra ten cents it costs Universal to press a second DVD, just like most if not all of their terrible flippers.

WHAT?! Scarface isn't nearly as good as P. Diddy says it is but it's still a very, very good film. Carlito's Way just didn't work for me at all. Casino is easily better than both and highly superior to American Gangster.
I'd rate the set like this:
Casino > Scarface > American Gangster > Carlito's Way
I'd rate the set like this:
Casino > Scarface > American Gangster > Carlito's Way

I was in Costco yesterday and saw this:
http://www.amazon.com/Donnie-Brasco-...8163674&sr=1-8
Wonder if the feature on the bonus disc of this set is the same as the one that will be used for this new set. Did it air on TV first? Anybody see it and have a review?
I'm in for this new set if the extra feature is worth having, but mostly I'm in for the possible two disc versions of Carlito and Casino. I'm one of those people burned by the crappy quality of the Casino flipper.

Agreed!
American Gangster is essentially just a rip off of those other 3 except for a gangster genre pic, they didn't set-up the characters properly in regard to how the plot deals with them. There is no foil for the anti-hero to compare to, Denzel and Crowe's characters are set up as parrallels, which is completely useless. Cuba's part should have been fleshed out to explore the contrast in style to Denzel's character or conversely the bad cop should have been fleshed out more to compare the contrast in style to Crowe. Spending the entire film comparing Crowe and Denzel killed the entire movie, since they were the same character, people who were good at what they did by differing from their collegues, but also not the best of people morally speaking.
Casino had Nicky vs Sam, Carlito's Way had Carlito vs Penn and Benny from the Bronx (small role with major impact), and Scarface had Tony vs everyone else who seemed rational in comparrison. (But, also Manny)
American Gangster had Denzel = Crowe = 1 trick pony...yeah, the film looked great, but at the end of the day there was nothing there to seperate it from the other 3 films in this set.
