I got $1,733 in table share ...

Location: Ocean's Eleven Casino (www.oceans11.com), Oceanside, CA
Date: December 13, 2007
Table: $2/$3 NL

Button is on seat 8. Seat 9 is SB. Seat 1 is empty. Seat 2 is BB. I am sitting at seat 6.

PRE-FLOP:
Seats 3~5: Call the $3 BB.
Seat 6 (me): Fold.
Seats 7~8: Call the $3 BB.
Seat 9: Goes all-in for $80.
Seat 2: Fold.
Seat 3: Calls $80.
Seat 4: Calls $80.
Seats 5~8: Fold.
Three players to the flop. Seat 9 all-in. Seat 3 ($600 behind) and seat 4 ($200 behind) play for a side pot.

FLOP: A A 9
Check, check.

TURN: J
Seat 3: Checks.
Seat 4: Bets $80.
Seat 3: Raises to ~$200.
Seat 4: Calls and is all-in.

RIVER: 9
Seat 3: AA (quad A; bad beat winner)
Seat 4: 99 (quad 9; bad beat loser)
Seat 9: TT

JACKPOT AMOUNT: $26,000
Bad beat loser gets 40% = $10,400
Bad beat winner gets 20% = $5,200
The rest of the table shares 40% = $10,400 / 6 = $1,733 per person
Seat 1 was empty so a 6-way split for table share; yes, they rounded $1,733.33 down to $1,733.

You got lucky... Seat 4 should have folded preflop after seat three called the allin.

You are assuming a lot, Jeremy. Playing purely statistically, maybe. But in reality you need to figure out player trends, etc. But depending on table stakes, since 3 flat called the all-in, it invited (pot odds) the other player. Cash games are different than tournament play. Automatic fold would have been right in a tourney, but the play was right here.

Wait ... there's an "Oceans 11 Casino?" Aren't they just asking to get robbed?

Pot odds? No way. What range that gives you pot odds to call are you giving the guy who called a raise of 7x the pot? Keep in mind that it isn't just the $77, you're playing for your other $200 as well.

Also, seat three flat calling makes a call even worse, not better. Seat three knows that seat four has $200 behind and he is inviting the call. He WANTS seat four to come in for a side pot. He doesn't want to drive him off.

Cash game or tourney, it is an easy fold.

That's correct. We got somewhat lucky that seat 4 stayed in with seat 3 flat calling the $80 all-in raise pre-flop. After the excitement settled down, that was one of the first things that we talked about. However, considering how loose the table was playing and how totally baked seat 4 was (he even admitted that he was smoking weed all afternoon), it wasn't a big surprise.

Isn't this like the second BBJ you've been apart of? You bastard. :)

My third. But I hadn't had one in 2.5 years. And they were all just table shares, not that I'm complaining. :D
