View Full Version : Christmas Story 2 Disc SE - $9.99 at Best Buy (YMMV)

I just got back from a trip to my local Best Buy. I noticed in the ad that they advertised the Christmas Story DVD for $9.99. I already have the old version, and figured that's the one they were selling for that price.

I looked around the store and only found the Special Edition version. It was marked $24.99, but since I couldn't find the one-disc version, I figured I'd bring it up to the register. When it rung up at the $9.99 price, both me and the cashier were surprised.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but it's such a great deal that I wanted to pass it along. As always, YMMV.

Not everyone belongs to CH...not everyone wants to. Your posts are pointless.

I wish this deal was sooner. I picked it up for $17.99 at Target about two weeks ago. I knew that when I finally decided to bite the bulllet, it would show up somewhere else for cheaper :(

It was actually in the 2 for $20 Christmas section at BB a couple of weeks ago as well. I held off then b/c I didn't want any of the other movies. Picked it up this week.

They should start banning for pointless crap like this. Seriously.

On a side note, I don't think it's YMMV, 2-discer is online for 9.99 as well: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5927884&st=christmas+story+dvd&type=product&id=25716

Yeah, but does it come with a Ralphie bobblehead like mine did?

Isn't it silly how they removed the "gun" from his hand?

Yeah, I've wondered why they did that.

Yeah, I've wondered why they did that.

Cause it's dangerous! You could shoot your eye out with that thing.

When it rung up at the $9.99 price, both me and the cashier were surprised.

Best Buy seems to have a habit of putting the two- or three- discs on sale, and once they're gone, the tag is left in front of the one-disc version. Sneaky.

When I bought the Panic Room 3-disc for $8.99, it was "hidden" behind two copies of the Superbit one-disc.

If you're not sure which version on a DVD is on sale, check the SKU on the price tag with the SKU on the shelf (sale price) tag. If they match, it should ring up at that price.

If they don't match, but there are no copies of the other version in sight, it's worth a try, but definitely a YMMV. (I managed to get the PotC: DMC two-disc for the one-disc sale price when they accidently put the sale tag on a big display of the two-discers with no single discs around. But they removed the tag before anyone else could try the same thing. :))

Cause it's dangerous! You could shoot your eye out with that thing.

No, no, no! It's not loaded. You could only poke your eye out with that thing. ;)

Ralphie's not old enough to poke.

The irony of this is that Columbia House preys on simplistic understandings of the system like "$0.49 @ Ch." Over the course of fulfilling the commitment to CH, this DVD would cost more along the lines of $7.00. Any Columbia House purchase could be put to better use than saving ~$3.00.

And even if you want the DVD, all the trouble might not be worth it to many people for $3.00.

Actually, an average account from start to finish should run you around $4.75-$5.00 per dvd, but whatever...I understand Columbia House is too complicated for some people.

That's WITH b1g1 + free shipping codes and the like for your fulfillments. Though such codes are around a lot, I'm not sure that that would be considered "the average account"-- more likely the "well-optimized account." Simply using the best code (w/a PSN from an old account) and completing your commitment would cost ~$6.50 per pre-tax.

Either way, it's a far cry from $0.49, and that was my point.

What are the chances of this being on sale next week for the same price? I won't be near a best buy for another week.

probably around 0.5%...if that.

It's really, really, really unlikely (but not unheard of)

You could save BB's weekly ad (from a newspaper), and then try price matching it somewhere.

You could also buy it online for in-store pickup. You've got 8 days to pick it up at that price before they put it back...

This makes me miss the Suncoast closing sales when this and all other Christmas DVD's were like 90% off.
