View Full Version : Spider-Man 3 - Wal-Mart exclusive (a second one?)

Since we post store exclusive threads in this forum, I decided to put this thread here. Feel free to move it if it is out-of-place.

In Wal-Mart this morning, I saw a second exclusive for the recent Spider-Man 3 DVD. It was for the single-disc widescreen edition, and it had a slipcase featuring a 3-D lenticular cover (actually 3-D, not just lenticular that moves) different than the regular exclusive lenticular cover. The 2-pack also comes with 3 mini-comic books (and I mean mini, maybe 2x1.5" books) and a small magnifying glass to read them. I never saw this before this morning nor have seen it mentioned anywhere, has anybody else seen this? It was $16.96, plus tax. I wouldn't have cared about it, but I collect store exclusives, and I like exclusive artwork for DVDs.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I can post pics tomorrow if anyone would like me to.

I seen the 3-D lenticular cover at Sam's Club the other day.

Wal-Mart also has a second exclusive for Transformers. It's the single disc edition packaged with either Autobot or Decepticon magnets.

Shrek The Third now comes with a bonus Christmas music CD now at Walmart.

Also at Sam's Club you can get both Plush Donkey & Puss N Boots with Shrek The Third instead of having to choose between the 2 like Walmart made you do when it 1st came out. I think the price was around $25.

The Shrek Christmas music cd was part of the original release the First Shrek Movie at walmart they must of had a hugh over stock of these.

I saw this one on Sunday. My Walmart only has this one now, the first exclusive(w/book etc.) is sold out.

I'm all for as much attention to exclusives as possible, but it does seem sort of superfluous to have a separate thread for every exclusive, since we have a weekly thread that covers everything.

Of course, mentioning exclusives in the thread dedicated to the specific title is a great help to those deciding where to buy that title.

Just my opinion, but it is a lot easier to follow one weekly thread. If we had a separate thread for every exclusive there would be as many as 50 threads a week.

I know what you're saying Trevor. I didn't want to make a separate thread, but I didn't want to resurrect that month-old thread either. If I saw this exclusive back when Spider-Man 3 came out I would have posted it in the exclusive thread for that week. I was just curious to see if anyone else saw this because it just seemed to pop up out of nowhere.

True, BUT ... I also would not have known about this "new" recently discovered exclusive even if only the other Spiderman was bumped. I don't usually read old post with excessive page count unless I really liked the thread. So I sort of guess, it's a judgment call or maybe not, I don't know.

But with these coming out long after the first week of release, they don't really fit. IMO this is a totally new category - Exclusives (IMO) designed to make the older releases more attractive. Hopefully there will be more of these in the future.

Stuff like this happens a lot actually, older releases getting new exclusives, usually at walmart.

I always put them in the current week's exclusive thread.

I'm really torn on whether to buy this one or not. I'm a comic book fan, but these seem pretty silly given their microscopic size. And I already have multiple copies of SM3 from all the other exclusives of course. That said, I'll probably end up getting it. :(

It looks like this new exclusive was released this week, not back when Spider-Man 3 came out. If I knew that I definitely would have put it in this week's Exclusives thread, I just assumed it came out back then and I never saw it. Oh, well. I bought it for the exclusive lenticular cover. And I just realized I have way too many Spider-Man 3 DVDs.

One thing I'll never get is how people get their panties in a wad if something they have supposedly laid calim to is mentioned in a different thread. It's totally ridiculous IMO, but happens all the time.

I also believe it would be best if there was a different thread for the exclusives that are added AFTER the first week of release. I suspect many folks like myself do not check the new-release exclsuives thread when they know they are not interested in the things coming out that week.

I also like it when people start a thread letting people know that exlcusives are pulled from the back stock (which Wal-Mart does once in awhile) or marked own like the recent thread about Target's Spider-Man 3 exclusive being down to $17.99 this week.

Hold on there bucky! I was not getting my panties in a wad. I was simply pointing out that I always include everything in my weekly lists, and that my personal thoughts are that it is superfluous to have separate threads. In the past, mods have closed threads just like this one and pointed them to the master or weekly threads.

I agree with you to some extent, that reminders of old stock or "new-on-old" exclusives like this one may deserve a separate thread. But if you're too busy to spend 5 seconds looking at the weekly thread once a week, then I'm glad I don't have your schedule! I put everything in post #1, and by checking that once or twice a week you'll never miss any exclusive.

And again, it doesn't bother me at all, just expressing my thoughts. Several of us here have religiously provided all exclusive information in one easy to check place, for over two years now, and it seems weird to want things spread out in multiple threads.

Again with staking a claim to something, in this case exclusives. They are indeed in a very tight wad. This time even adding "religiously" -ohbfrank-

There is nothing weird about this different category being in another thread. I do find it handy to have all the exclusives related to NEW releases in one place. I check it all the time when I know I would be interested in something I know is coming out that week. But those threads serve their purpose because we know when a title is being released and we know when the exclusives for those will first hit shelves.

So let me ask you this since you feel the need to lay claim to these as well... will you be listing this catalog exlcusive in the thread for next week? How about the week after that? Basically, what week(s) a catalog exclusive be included with?

IMO they clearly shoud be in a different thread, one that lists all exclusives available including those added to things after the first week of release. It would be helpful IMO (to those looking to see where they might want to buy something after the first week of release) since many exclusives never sell out during release week and now some are being added weeks after release. In fact, the best place for them might not be the "bargains" area.

I understand your points, but don't think that expressing my opinion is "staking claim" or "having my panties in a wad".

The system we have can definitely be improved upon, and discussion like this can make us better.

We've been putting them in the week we discover them. And then they get put in the master list of course.

The master list has always been in the main forum.

So where we are now is that we have a weekly thread discussing everything "new" (even if it is "old"), and a master list thread with everything in the history of DVD media-based exclusives.

Could it be better? Of course. The master list is sorted by store, but it would perhaps be nicer to have it in a sortable spreadsheet where one could search by title, store, or type of exclusive.

But in the past, there have often been complaints about having exclusives conversations spread out over dozens of different threads. We as a group/forum decided to try to have everything in one thread.

Even now, exclusives often get mentioned in passing in threads and no one brings them to the exclusives thread. As an exclusives follower, shouldn't we want everything in one place, and not have to check hundreds of different threads?

If you call any of this "staking claim" or being "controlling" fine, but I disagree. I just think we're trying to be best organized to help our fellow exclusive collectors.

As it appears you finally realize (per that last pragraph) that you did much more than just simply state your opinion. More than once you all but implied ownership... over somethng as simple as trying to tell people about a new exclusive they might not have known about.

My interest has been that I discovered the same thing, on the same day, and would have started the same thread had the OP not already done so.

Not sure what kind of thrill you get out trying to control something as simple as information, but that's your issue not mine. I'm going to stay out of the way of your pissing match next time.

I'll second that. Obviously information is only welcome if the self proclaimed owner of that information category likes where you put it.

Who knew thread placement was more important than being actually helpful? :brickwl2:

Pissing match? I saw it as a civil conversation between people interested in sharing exclusive information, and discussing the best way to do so.

I don't see how you read that into my comments. Am I vocal about exclusives? Yes. Do I maintain threads and post a heck of a lot about exclusives? Yes. But I don't think I have ever been "bossy" or tried to monopolize information. I have never claimed credit or not given credit to all the exclusive collectors who started the threads before I got into them. I have always tried to share responsibility for keeping DVDtalk "in the know", asking for help every week. I would love for somebody with spreadsheet skills to take the master list and make a sortable sheet out of it. I don't think I "imply ownership" at all.

My interest has been that I discovered the same thing, on the same day, and would have started the same thread had the OP not already done so.

I found it Tuesday as well, and posted it in the weekly thread. Extra threads are fine, but I would hope that you would also share the information in the weekly thread. A lot of us don't have time to read every thread in the main and bargain forums, and appreciate people putting information into the weekly threads.

That's been my main point here, and I thought that most people agreed. Having exclusives mentioned in dozens of separate threads made it difficult to keep track of them and make shopping decisions. If people would rather have to read the thread(s) for each and every DVD release, the weekly store threads, etc, that's fine; but I think it would be easier if we all tried to also put the information in one place.

Don't know who you're trying to fool. God help the person who posts a exclusives thread for an upcoming week before you can post your "master" one.

Not sure how possible it would be to describe the weekly threads in as much detail as the conversation warranted without using at least a few personal pronouns.

But maybe you're right. All this work is part of my plan to build a resume and take over the whole site someday.

I obviously pissed in your wheaties cardaway. Please accept my apology.

I obviously pissed in your wheaties cardaway. Please accept my apology.

As I mentioned, you have definately been pissing on everything trying to lay claim to how exclusives are posted here. Why I do not know.

I responded to the implication that you had more of a say on the subject than anybody else here, and now I'm less than ammused that you're trying to deny it.

I've also had enough and am going to bow out of this one despite the fact that I still personally see no problem with more than one thread per week about exclusives.

Maybe it should be in it's own thread then since that has nothing to do with the exclusive stuff showing up in the Spider-Man dvd

I don't, but I've seen it in the store. The first lenticular was the same image as the basic 1-disc, only the black & red/blue costumes switched back and forth with movement. This one has the same effect, only it's the image where Spidey is sitting on the ledge with the reflection behind him on the building.

I managed to get the first lenticular (as well as Target's 3-disc).. and now a part of me wants this one as well. And I didn't even think the movie was all that great. :p

I'm not positive, but this is what I recall.

The whole side-by-side package is shrinkwrapped as per WM usual.

Then inside that the DVD is shrinkwrapped underneath the new lenticular slipcover.
