Thanks Speedy. Those $24.99 TV sets with a $40 gift card with purchase of 4 sounds good. That works out to $15 each, which is really good on some of those. Best so far for It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and I don't remember seeing That 70s Show that low before.

It's worth pointing out for anyone who doesn't know, those Simpsons figures are not exclusives. They've been available in stores since the movie was in theatres. 4 for $15 is a pretty good deal though. It just seems like they should have made it 5 for $18 or something so you could get all five they're offering. The way they did it you have to make a choice or pay $5.99 for one of them.

Dang, I was looking for a lot better than only a pitiful $5 off MSRP for the Blade Runner HD-DVD collector's set. Don't really want either of the 2 $5 movies you can get with it.

Thanks Speedy. It is SO great getting prices this early. I almost ordered Blade Runner 4 disc from Amazon thinking NO one would be as low as $22.99 but now I can get it locally. I'll also be getting Simpsons (probably from Target with the $5 coupon) & Braveheart is coming from DD. I'm still leaning towards keeping my National Treasure one disc. It's pretty loaded & the 2 disc doesn't appear to have that much more. It would have to be real cheap WITH movie cash to even tempt me.

I'm wondering the same thing. It's nice to see HD-DVD included, so I might go nuts if all titles are included...

Sweet Baby James
12-10-07, 09:43 PM
Make sure to check Amazon-they usually match the weekly Best Buy sales. Hopefully, they will have a larger selection of HD titles as part of a BOGO promotion. Thanks for the prices, speedy!

Speedy!!!!!!!!! I haven't noticed the bargains forum much lately and didn't notice you were back and posting. I hope you're doing well sir, it's very good to see you back.

And those BOGO HD-DVDs and BDs will be mine. I can see at least 5 I'll be looking to pick up and I'm sure I can find one more. It sucks that Mr. Brooks is still 34.99, I can't seem to find that stupid title for anything reasonable, and I guess this is as good as I'm going to get.

No mention of the Blade Runner 5-disc digipack exclusive, whats up with that?
There is no exclusive, BB just has the wrong picture on their website for the Briefcase version. Amazon did the same thing a couple of months ago on their Briefcase, and only showing the DVD package. They fixed it a day or so after.

I can finally buy Transformers now. Now to decide between Bourne, Oceans 13, or Harry Potter.

12-10-07, 11:22 PM
Thanks, Speedy!

I'm also curious: is the HD DVD bogo ONLY the titles listed, or just all high definition discs?

Remember, Amazon may more than likely do their own version of BOGO and they might include several not listed with BB. So, by just having BB offer BOGO on HD DVDs, this sets in motion some great HD DVD deals by the end of the year.

Spunkymonkey
12-10-07, 11:41 PM
My question is, can you buy the HD-DVD's this tuesday at BB and then comeback the next week when the BOGO takes place and pricematch it at BB? I'd rather do this tommorrow than deal with crowds when it gets closer to the holiday.

Remember, Amazon may more than likely do their own version of BOGO and they might include several not listed with BB. So, by just having BB offer BOGO on HD DVDs, this sets in motion some great HD DVD deals by the end of the year.

I hope so. Either way, there is absolutely no reason for me to pick up Bourne Ultimatum tomorrow. I'll wait till next week, and at the very least, get another HD for free. Nothing I really NEED off that list, but BOGO makes it so much better. Amazon or BB, either way, I'll hold off on some HD buys till next week.

Thanks Speedy. That BOGO is tits. Depending on the price, I may pick up Ultimatum and Order of the Phoenix, or wait and see if Amazon has a cheaper price.

Speedy... Too me it looks like the add for BOGO offer includes both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, but I just want to be clear that is the case??? I was going to pick up The Bourne Ultimatium on HD-DVD tom (for $29.99) but if both the formats apply to the deal, I will wait till next week (Bourne on HD-DVD and Harry Potter 5 on Blu-ray). Thanks a lot, appreciate it much!!!

P.S. Anyone who is wondering/curious about The Simpsons figures... 4 for $15 is a great deal!!! I paid $15 a piece for them when they first came out back in July.

Blade Runner HD DVD and THX1138 for $5 more for me, though the "re-imagined" or whatever cut of THX is kinda lame (but it looks amazing!). Good deal though either way!

Also COD 4 for PS3 at $44.99 is tempting.

I am just going to buy harry and bourne tomorrow and price match them next week. Since I know they are on the list and it saves me the trouble of fighting for them sunday morning. I need that time to go get a laptop, hopefully under $500. I am still waiting on speedy to tell us if it does include all HD and Blu-Ray Disks before I get excited. & If you can speedy could you please list any of the cheap laptop deals for next week? If the Bourne steelbooks are sold out tomorrow, I'll wait till next week and pick up the Bourne HD-DVD Combo and Knocked Up HD-DVD Combo discs for 30 bucks. Good deal, especially if I get an HD-DVD player for the holidays.

Just kidding - good to see you back on board Sir Speedy

Those sets with the free Gift Cards look a good bet. Might have to get in on some of that.

Also not bad prices for 'Daughtry' and 'Magic' so I guess I'll pick them up for the wife.

I think you will like them. I changed mine to XP (Can't stand Vista) and I added a 1gb stick of RAM (making it 1.5gb) and mine runs great. Yours are Dual core (which is much nicer than mine) so you should run Vista just fine. If I was you, I would pickup either a 1gb stick or a 2gb package for each. Those Gateways come with 1gb (two 512 sticks). So, you if you bought extra RAM you would either pull both out and replace with 2 1gb sticks or just swap one of the 512's for a 1gb. Either way, it will run better with more RAM. Vista is a hog so the more RAM the better. Here are the specs on your Gateway's. Gateway ML6720 (http://www.gateway.com/retail/ml6720.php)

PS Thanks Speedy!!

I will probably pickup:

The Bourne Ultimatum HD-DVD
Shrek The Third HD-DVD
Transformers HD-DVD
Harry Potter & Order Of The Phoenix HD-DVD

For $63 :)

Is the "Halloween" exclusive just a 3-D cover or is there more to it? Going by the price which was the same for the "Pirates 3" DVD gift set you'd think it came with a figure or something. I checked the website which they seemed to downsize for some reason it does not say much. The Best Buy Canada site actually says 3-D cover. Are the U.S and Canada getting the same exclusive? Nothing was ever formally posted about the CC case oin either site that I post for.

What's your price range?

Just curious but I bought Guitar Hero II for the Xbox (game only) for $49.99 on Black Friday with a $10 off coupon.

Will they still price match it to the $34.99 now if I take in the receipt even though I used a coupon?

If I'm interpreting your transaction correctly, you got it for $39.99 after the $10 coupon?
If so, and if the price is $34.99 next week, you should be able to take in your receipt (since it's within the pricematch time frame) and get an extra $5 back to bring it down to the $34.99 price. They won't match it to $34.99, then take the $10 coupon off, at least from my experiences.

Good Luck!

The BB B1G1 deal kind of sucks especially with those discs that are $34.99. Tax makes it almost 40 bucks and its like paying $20 bucks a movie. Amazon's deals have been much better

Best Buy is starting to suck when it comes to deals. I'm starting to wean myself off them simply because most of their deals are online-only and without the ability to save myself the shipping, the deal usually isn't that big of one. At least, you know, if you wait a few weeks and wait for Amazon or some other store to catch up.

Hopefully this hasn't already been asked, but can you clarify something for me, Speedy? Your post says the Lupe Fiasco CD has two Best Buy Exclusive bonus tracks --- does it say what they are, or if they're on the same disc? His first album had three bonus tracks, right on the album itself, but I've been hearing that these might be on a separate disc, like a bonus DVD or something. That would make me sad, as I wouldn't be able to listen to them in the car, or without switching discs period.

Also, do you know if Circuit City or anywhere else would have exclusives for the album? I heard they might have a bonus track too.

Thanks Speedy!

Unfortunately BB does not identify what the bonus tracks are.

CC's ad simply states "exclusive bonus track".

speedy, I know you've answered this many times, but I think I might try to get other HD DVDs and BDs at my Best Buy.

The scan says "Buy One, Get One on Any One of these Next Gen Titles"

I think "one" could be the key. I could maybe convince them the one means you have to buy one of these titles to get another free, but it does not say you have to get both titles from the listed selection flat out. So I'm hoping that I can get B1G1 by buying a couple titles from the selection and getting other HD discs that are equal are lesser value.

May be at least worth a shot.

WHAT ???!?!?!?!???

Yeah, any manager in their right mind isn't that stupid.

However, one CAN hope BB will screw up in their computers, and accidentally run all of their HD DVD's at BOGO. Granted, this probably won't happen, but don't put it past them. They have royally screwed up already decent deals like this before.

With clever use of coupons (Target anyone? :) ), getting the Toshiba A3 from Amazon for $159 plus 12 free movies and various sales (Amazon, Best Buy, FYE etc.) I've acquired the following HD-DVDs for a total under $150:

Best of HD Vol.1, Vol.2 and Vol.3 (12 movies total)

Hot Fuzz
The Shining
Eyes Wide Shut
Clockwork Orange

Blade Runner (5 disc)
Ocean's Trilogy (3 movies)

The Italian Job
The Frighteners
Black Rain
Blades of Glory
Transformers
Troy DC
Shrek 3

Bourne Ultimatum, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Disturbia are probably the best titles out of what, 15? Like I said. Most of the titles suck wet smelly ass. We're talkin' HD here, not SD DVD titles Best Buy is selling for $6.99. Add maybe 20 more titles, and I'd be excited. But this B1G1 kinda sucks.

I suppose this sale is intended for first-time HD DVD enthusiasts who just purchased their HD-A2 a while back, but for those of us who have a few HD DVDs already, a larger title selection would be nice.

They managed to get 3 brand new releases in the HD DVD BOGO, which is pretty damn good. These BOGO deals make the HD DVD versions cheaper then the SD ones! Its nuts! I was meaning in new releases. Hostel 2, Condemned, FF2, and Saw 3 are far from new. Ocean Thirteen yes, Mr and Mrs Smith yes (catalog title however), Spider-Man 3, yes (however its easy to track down one of the million used copies thanks to the PS3 or given away with a Blu-ray SA purchase).

Add maybe 20 more titles, and I'd be excited. But this B1G1 kinda sucks. ...for those of us who have a few HD DVDs already, a larger title selection would be nice.

Definitely agree. I haven't bought an HD-DVD in months because of a lack of good new releases and high prices/no sales on the catalog titles I'm interested in. The scant B2G1 or B1G1 sales (all... two of them. :|) are extremely limited in their selections compared to the Blu sales which have consisted of everything under the sun at one point or another, and certainly don't offer up much incentive for HD owners to buy, unless, as you said, are a brand new adoptee.

I was actually denied the $5 manufacturer's coupon today, not because it was a printout, but because they don't combine deals. I wanted to know why, because they will get reimbursed for the coupon so it makes no sense. I asked to speak to a manager, and she claimed to be the manager on duty. Her nametag did not say manager, so I said I wouldn't leave until she got an actual manager. I said it nicely without raising my voice. She actually threatened to call the police for trespassing! I am going to be writing a nasty letter about Krystal...

per "thejester" in the Amazon BOGO thread, he states that if you ring up the lower price HD title the other one will ring up free, no matter if costs more or not.
Anyone try this? I know it's worked before.

Don't know how that happened? I was for sure clicking on the B0G0 thread for BB HD. Guess I missed. Anyway...

For those that care -

B0G0 @ B&M has the same "flaw" as previous times. Have clerk scan lower price one & then higher price, the higher price will be the freebie.

Since the span is on $5, then there won't be that much of a savings - not like the sets one a while back.

I noticed this on the receipt I got for my HDs (HP: OOP & Oceans 13). I would go back & return both sets of titles I got, but I used RZ coupons & they won't get credited back to me, so I'm stuck - only out $3 tho'.

Thanks DVD NDN for catching that.

Looks like Crank may be the title to get ... based on what is left at my local Best Buy.

Before I picked up my online order in-store, I checked out what what still around. Although a couple titles were low of stock, only Crank was sold out.

Also, I tried to get Shrek the Third and another title AND use the $5 off Shrek HD-DVD, but the clerk scanned the other title first even though Shrek was on top ... so it didn't work.

I went in and picked up Transformers, Shrek the Third, Bourne Ultimatum, and Harry Potter OotP. I tried to use the $5 coupons for Transformers and Shrek the Third, but they kept coming up as $0.00. She handed one back saying it wouldn't work because the movie was ringing up at $0.00. But neither coupon seemed to be working. I asked if she could ring them up so that the two I had coupons for wouldn't be the free ones, so she gladly cleared some of the movies out and rang them up seperately (Shrek the Third and Bourne Ultimatum on one transaction and Transformers and Harry Potter on the other). The coupons still wouldn't work, and the clerk said that she didn't know if she could use the coupon because of the deal and that they had to be the same price. I told her they were for equal or lesser value, so she just marked $5 off Shrek the Third manually. But when she did the Transformers/Harry Potter, Transformers was the free one (I don't know if it was because she rang Harry Potter up 1st or because it was the higher one). I wasn't going to argue the point of ringing up Transformers up first, since it was supposed to be the free one. But she ended up knocking $5 off of Harry Potter to make up the difference! I used a $5 RZ certificate to get another $5 off, so I got out with 4 movies for $50. I'm supposed to have another $5 RZ certificate coming my way, soon. The website listed it as being issued under my points, but it's not in the print section yet. I'm hoping that it becomes available by the end of the week, and I'll try to order Evan Almighty and Knocked Up for $20. My wife wants Evan Almighty, but neither of us care about Knocked Up. Maybe we can try to take it to Wal-Mart for an exchange or sell it.

You told her about a copoun and she gave you the discount?!? That would never happen at a Best Buy in IL, here they view the customer as the enemy -- and that's a step up from the service at Circuit City.

The website brings us to the old versions of THX and Forbidden Planet. You might be able to argue for the 2-disc of THX since that's the one that's pictured in the ad. Not sure about FP.

Well, don't know if BB fixed the "flaw" (like that'll happen this quick?), or maybe it was the combination of my 2 checkout items, but I couldn't get the freebie to be the higher priced item tonight. I went with Transformers & Shooter. She scanned Trans. first & after she clicked yes for the b0g0 popup, Trans. showed $0.

Anyone else have better luck?

Wierd. The older version, released in 2000 and listed under the $5 offer, is notated as the 50th Anniversary edition.

I bought Transformers + Harry Potter and Shrek the Third + Bourne Ultimatum. They scanned the cheaper item first, but I got charged for the more expensive item, so I don't know how a few people magically got the more expensive item free. Then I handed the Transformers and Shrek coupons which scanned as $0, so the rep called the manager who as usual denied me... just as I was denied using the 10% off coupon. So it was just an "OK" deal, but not the smoking deal several people reported who somehow got the more expensive item free and were able to use the $5 Transformer/Shrek coupons on top. Fortunately I've got until the end of January to decide about keeping them and hope for a better deal. $18 for Harry Potter + $15 for the other 3 still feels expensive when I'm used to cheap SD DVDs.

I don't know if it has been posted or not, but the $5.00 coupons everyone is talking about here for Transformers and Shrek 3 on HD were also in the paper a few weeks back. They are what is considered "Manufacture's Coupons" and I believe all Best Buys (or all retailers for that matter) should honor them. It may or may not be true that you can't combine a coupon with a sales price, but I don't think Best Buy has this policy. I picked up Shrek 3 (SD) for $10.99 (paper had some $3.00 coupons for SD versions of Shrek 3, Transformers, Disturbia, and Shrek or Shrek 2) this past Saturday with one of the Manufacture's Coupons. The coupon rang up 0.00 and the checker had to call a manager and she asked me if the coupon was one of there's or not. Someone (I don't think it was a manager) came and told the girl she had to total the ticket, then enter the coupon as a Manafucture's coupon discount. The discount appears on the receipt after the total. Hope this helps any that have these coupons and wants to use them at Best Buy. By the way, I have both of these HD coupons for anyone that wants them. I guess if I mail them out to you tomorrow, and you live close by (Houston area), you could get them by this Saturday. Shoot me a pm if you want them (no charge).

Just got back from Best Buy. They had the one-disc version of THX-1138, no 2-discs anywhere in the store. Complained to the manager that their ad shows the cover of the 2-disc, and he had me order THX 2-disc online in-store, and gave me $20 off and free shipping on THX. He definitely did the right thing, but I had to complain to get the deal, and I felt like a jackass complaining about it. I also didn't appreciate the woman who told me it was the "same movie with a different cover."

Yea, I just love it when those idiots start talking out of their a**es about DVDs they know nothing about.

Regardless. I picked up the Briefcase. They had plenty of the DVD sets. It looked like they had several HD-DVD but I did not look at those.

A heavy set that is well made.

I picked up the absolute last copy of Transformers at a Tampa, FL location (one of the employees had it in his hands...had no price on it, so possibly a return), along with Bourne Supremacy.

On a side note, I have been reading a lot of doom and gloom about HD DVD, but it seems to me that the forum lights up whenever an HD deal is posted. Unlike Target, who has much more shelf space dedicated to Blu Ray, the Best Buys here have equal space (an entire aisle), but the HD DVD's seem to go quicker. There were no Transformer's left, no Evan Almighty, and I could only find 2 copies of "Knocked Up', but that was because a dense employee had them on the New Release wall (away from the BOGO).

I think both formats are here for a while, unless it comes down to Sony writing a big check to Universal and Paramount.

If you're at all interested in the McFarlane Simpsons figures, I'd head over to your nearest Best Buy pretty quick. I picked up all four family members but there were only a couple of each character. You may still be able to order them online later in the day but I don't think these are going to hang around like the Silver Surfer promos. The figures are really well done and an absolute steal for $3.75 each.

I picked up The Simpsons Movie at Target for $12.59 w/ tax (after $5 coupon). I was going to get it at Best Buy, but decided I'd rather just have the movie. I also got Hatchet, Evil Dead and Halloween there. On the website it says that if you buy all 3, you save $10. However, when I got to the register it only came up $5 when you buy 2. I told the cashier about it being in the ad, and it says only $5 off 2 and the $10 deal is only on the website. Just thought I'd let everybody know that you might want to order it online and get it for instore pickup to save $5.

Consider yourself lucky. I got nothin. They are sold out online, but you can do in-store pickup... supposedly. None of my closest 6 stores had them. I can't believe the figures sold out on the first day. I knew freebies would be hot, but you had to pay for these so I didn't think so. Yeah, that's why I complained to the manager. I haven't seen THX in a million years, so I'm looking forward to that, but I was more excited about this documentary on disc 2 (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=12283) :

A Legacy of Filmmakers: The Early Years of American Zoetrope, narrated by Richard Dreyfuss. It's no secret that the basic premise and philosophy behind THX 1138 was directly influenced by the world around it, and the current state of the film industry was no exception. This 63-minute documentary covers the rise and fall of the struggling young studio during the late 1960s and early 1970s, touching on everything from the influence of Easy Rider to the bitter clash between Warner Bros. and American Zoetrope over the film itself. In all fairness, though, it's great to see Warner Bros. swallow their pride by allowing this documentary to be presented objectively (one might be reminded of the clash between Universal and Terry Gilliam over Brazil, and the wonderful documentary produced for The Criterion Collection). Among other highlights, A Legacy of Filmmakers features short interviews with the likes of Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Francis Ford Coppola. Overall, it's a great piece for anyone interested in film history, and as relevant to THX 1138 as any other bonus feature in recent memory.

So, I'll be happy when that arrives. BestBuy.com shows that it already shipped. Seriously, guys, go in and complain, get the 2-disc. They have to do it. They can't go around advertising one thing and changing it around when you get in the store.

I like to report that "flaw" has been fixed.

I bought HP: OOP ($32.99) and Bourne Ult. ($29.99), at check out, clerk scanned Bourne disc first, and followed by HP: OOP, she pressed key, BOGO message pop up, and $0.00 is on Bourne only. I told her that's doesn't seems right.. it supposed to be both are $29.99 (playing dumb).

I had the clerk cancelled out and try it this time with HP:OOP first, followed by Bourne, pressed key, BOGO message pop up and still $0.00 on Bourne disc only. I said ok.. no problem..paid $32.99 + taxes and left..

I was happy there is a BOGO for HD discs anyway.

I just went to BestBuy.com to check to see if Evan Almighty and Knocked Up HD were still 19.99. It lists it as 19.99 on the search page, but if you click on it or add it to your cart, it comes up 29.99. Just a heads up. I'm thinking about calling and seeing if I can get them to honor it for 19.99.
