I read John Sinnott's DVD review of Treasures III: Social Issues in American Film, 1900-1934 at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=30990 and...his complaints about "The Voice of the Violin" seem a bit peculiar for an early-movie buff. In 1909, they always used long shots for everything—Griffith was one of the first to change this. And intertitles that explain what's going to happen were necessary because, after all, Sinnott had a hard time figuring out what the last scene was supposed to be…just think of the semi-literate immigrant masses who made up the cinema audience at this early date. Not a big deal, of course, and I always enjoy his reviews—just a little bit surprised here.
