LAST MAN ON EARTH- Is 12/4 release a new transfer?
In 2004, this title was released under the Midnight Movies label, also with the excellent PANIC IN YEAR ZERO! (1962). The transfer and quality of both pictures was excellent in that release. That it may be purchased for $10 is a steal!
Is the 12/4/07 re-release just a repackaging, or will it include a new transfer of THE LAST MAN ON EARTH? Certainly for $20 retail, it ought to. I could find no additional info on the title re: extras, commentary, etc. Anyone?
Certainly won't double-dip if it is a repackge...

Definitely avoid this release. According to that DVD Beaver review it's not only the same transfer, it's the exact same disc. It's the same transfer, same menus, same extra. All they did was remove Panic In Year Zero from the other side of the disc.
I was hoping for a good special edition too. Oh well. At least I won't have to triple dip on this title now.

Thanks for the info, everyone! I already own the previous release with PANIC IN YEAR ZERO! It is excellent, as already pointed out...
I guess from now on, all my favorite Sci-fi films (just some recent examples: OMEGA MAN, OUTLAND, LOGAN'S RUN, etc) are just getting "repackaged". It is a devious and piss poor practice that the studios are getting into! It just makes me not want to buy ANY new releases, period!

Yes, it's a crappy practice, but it's certainly not anything new. This type of thing almost always happens anytime there's a new "big budget" remake of a movie coming out.
At least with batch of titles you mentioned, it was offset by a price drop from the original release, a switch from 'snapper' to 'keep case' packaging, and the inclusion of a free movie ticket. If you'd never owned any of the prior releases, all of those things would be considered a bonus.

Outland, Soylent Green, and Omega Man have the ticket, though...
