Hard Boiled question

could somebody confirm that this movie has either copious dubbing or lots of poorly done ADR?

Just wondering as my R1 2 disc dvd seems to have really bad dialogue sync and I'm trying to work out if it's the movie or the dvd.

if this is in the wrong scetion, sorry.

cheers

knives,

I'm watching it in the original language, but some of the actors still look dubbed.

If I've heard correctly (with respect to the Dragon Dynasty release) the voices are dubtitled ... aka, added after the fact. And I believe it was done imperfectly.

I don't know if this is the case with other releases. I have both the Criterion and Mei Ah releases and don't recall on those two .. but I'll spin them up this weekend to see if there is a problem with either. I don't recall a major .. or minor (for that matter) problem.

What release are you researching nitin?

BTW .. after reviewing your collection and noticing that you gave Ghost in the Shell a 55/100 ....... I lack a reservation on assisting you. ... ha. Though frankly, I'm surprised that you own half the titles that you do simply based on the ranking that you yourself have given said titles. Then again, to each their own.

visitor,

the dragon dynasty release is the one I have. I do know about the dubtitles, but I thought that was subtitles not translating whats being said in the original language but are instead subtitles of the english dub.

re : ghost in the shell, I really like the visuals, dont care much for the movie.

And I guess something similar applies to movies I have given a low rating but still have. I like certain aspects of them enough even if not the whole thing.

I know .. I was just giving you nonsense. If you check my anime collection in my sig, I won't wager a bet against you about why. No hard feelings at all.

As far as Hard Boiled goes, let me check into it. In the meanwhile, search the Dragon Dynasty DVDtalk link as I believe it addresses this very same issue if I'm not mistaken ..... DVDTalk Dragon Dynasty thread

also, be aware that the majority of HK films were filmed without sound and everything was dubbed in the studio.

Correct. Hong Kong movies didn't start recording actors audio until the mid-late 1990's. Hard Boiled came out in 1992 and was dubbed.

How can you not like Ghost In the Shell, something wrong with you esp. when the Matrix lifted some stuff from it.

True, if you mean the '70s, '80s and '90s, but not if you include the decades of the '40s, '50s or '60s. Sometimes, you can even catch the shadow of a boom mic in the shot.
