Questions about Nightmare Before Christmas DVD

Did a quick forum search, didn't see anything that jumped out and answered my question.

So a couple years ago they took Nightmare Before Christmas out of print. At the time, I assumed it was because of the 3D version coming to theaters, and the DVD would be re-released. Yet here we are, almost 2 years later, and it's still unavailable.

Why was it taken out of print? More importantly, why hasn't it been re-released? Good god, I have at least 2 or 3 requests a week for this movie, and it's frustrating to ell customers that it's not available and I have no idea why.

The DVD will probably be rereleased once the 3D version is out of theaters.

Is it ever out of theaters? I thought they re-released it every year for Halloween?

They have been for the last couple of years. Comes out around halloween then sticks around for a little bit. Then it leaves theaters and we are left with no Nightmare Before christmas for another 10 months or so. I would assume a new dvd would come out. Perhaps they are gonna do some sort of 3d version for high def.

TNBC is a Disney title (originally released through Touchstone), and so it may be getting the same treatment as many of Disney's classic animated movies. That is, they pulled all existing copies of TNBC from the shelves a few years ago and placed the movie in "the vault." It will be reissued every so often (5 yrs? 10 yrs) for a limited time and then put back in the vault. SOP for Disney.

I'm satisfied (probably not unlike many others) with the DVD release. And if they do re-release it, will it have DTS soundtrack?????!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm happy with mine ... at least for now.

You're satisfied with a non-anamorphic copy with avergae video at best? I personally would love to get my hands on a nice, clean, anamorphic print of this on Blu-Ray. Hello next year!!!

Where did you read about the Blu-Ray, I haven't read anything about that.

Disney is very smart not re-releasing it, because more people will see it in the theater. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but it's smart. I'm glad I grabbed it when it first came out.

Well it wouldn't really be anamorphic if it's in high definition on blu-ray now, would it?

I don't have blu-ray yet, and I plan to in the future once 1.1 profile machines are in the 300 dollar range but, until then, give us a damn anamorphic disc!

I think the operative word here is 'releasing this on Blu-Ray' rerelease would apply to the DVD. There's a smidgen of a scene in the BR trailer on the Ratatouille/Cars Blurays.

Horray! I have the old version and will keep it for sentimental value, but I will easily pick this new version up for an anamorphic upgrade!

At work, our store got an email saying to expect this in August.

It's not confirmed or anything, though, so it could change.

UPDATE: August 26th is the current date we have for it.
