New Amazon Pre-order "Official" Price Gurantee

I just wanted to point this out. Although amazon has been doing price adjustments almost always when requested, but not have a policy in place for this.

Pre-order Price Guarantee

Amazon.com's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and shipped. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you placed your order and the release date. A pre-order price guarantee message will appear on your Order Summary during the checkout process. If you use 1-Click ordering, pre-order price protection will be automatically applied. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.

Terms and Conditions:

* Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site. Does not apply to any products purchased at Amazon.com's other sites, including Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.co.jp, Amazon.ca, or any other web site operated by Amazon.com or its affiliates.
* Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to not-yet-released books, CDs, videos, DVDs, software, and video games sold by Amazon.com. It does not apply to other product lines or to items that have already been released.
* Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to qualifying items displaying the offer message on their product detail pages. Items that do not display the offer message do not qualify, regardless of the nature of the items.
* If your order enters the shipping process before the release date and the price is lowered before the release date, we will automatically refund your credit card for the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price. If you did not use a credit card to pay for your order, please contact Customer Service.

It's nice, but Amazon is horrible about pre-orders. They never ship on time.

I never have a problem. As a prime member, I would say 99% of the time I receive new releases on the day they are released (Tuesdays).

I rarely have a pre-order from Amazon that doesn't ship on the release date... maybe it seems like they're always late because they won't send before release like most places?

As has been said, Amazon has been doing this for a while. AND it has been an official, written policy on the "Pricing" page since at least last January. (see slate.com article here... third paragraph.)

As far as I know, the 30 day guarantee still isn't in writing. There may be changes to this policy since last January (like the notice on your check out page), but this isn't new.

I'm talking a week (or more) after the item is released. I am (rather was) a prime member as well.

This has been a problem more with video games than DVDs, I should note.

I don't use Prime, heck I use the Free Shipping, and I still get most of my preorders only a day or two after release (Wed/Thu). Sometimes even Tues.

This was mentioned when I pre-ordered the Harryhausen box set (the one with the Ymir figurine). But since then the release has been cancelled, or delayed indefinately, or whatever.

The free shipping works very well for me. Once the item ships, I usually get it within 2-3 days. Can't ask for much more for free!

After some people reported that Amazon held their prime account hostage over last year's "We fucked up, but we will charge your card a 2nd time anyway" fiasco I swore off ever paying for something like prime at amazon or any other merchants.

I was wondering what this new "Books Pre Order" amount taken off my order was. It seems like in the past, when I would preorder a DVD or book and the price went down before it came out, they would just change the price to the lower one, not subtract the difference separately. I guess this way you can see how much you save better.

Item Subtotal: $13.59
Shipping & Handling: $2.08

Super Saver Discount $-2.08
EB Pre-order Guarantee $0.00
Books Pre-order $-0.68

Total: $12.91

Well, there you have it. It pays to read. They both have been there since May at the latest.

Page archive from May 29, 2007.

Me too. Last one I did with them (I think it was Robocop/Serenity), I got the Thursday after release day.
