No listing on Amazon yet, but noticed DVD Aficianado has a release date of 2/5/08 for a Collector's Edition of The Apartment, listed at $19.98.

A UCLA prof doing the audio commentary? Not to insult academics, but you think they'd look for someone involved with the film in some way, like Shirley MacLaine (well, she's alive, unlike most of the other people involved in the film). Or a person with more name recognition, such as Cameron Crowe, who did the Wilder book.

I would imagine this might mean more things to come from the Wilder estate, especially in the wake of "Ace in the Hole" being released this year after being unavailable for so long.

Most excellent, I've been hoping for a better edition than the bare-bones one of this for some time. Classic Billy Wilder and well worth picking up.

I've actually found academic commentaries sometimes more rewarding than those by actors -- the "Seven Samurai" one springs to mind as particularly good.

Outside of the Judd Apatow movies, I usually find academics more interesting than actors. Academics tend to do more film history, analysis, etc. than actors, who usually reminisce about on-set happenings or just sing the praises of other actors and the director. I like director commentaries better too. At any rate, this will be a welcome special feature I'm sure to watch first.
