I think it just means if you buy both versions of Hairspray (the single-disc version of the musical, and the John Waters film), they'll be $20 total.

That's got to be a new low for one of these major studio release DVD sales. I think the lowest before has been Wal-Mart's $3.88 sales.

Rob is correct, it looks like the single disc Hairspray and the original John Waters version.
Star Wars is the 4 disc edition with Luke & Leia on the cover with Luke holding the light sabre above his head.

^ not as good a price as their $1.88 BF deals last years... the selection was kinda blah, but that's the lowest i think i've ever seen for brand-new major-release studio titles.
nothing for me this week at CC... at least until friday, that is.

To answer my own question, I saw the CC ad, and the ad only shows the gold fullscreen 4-disc set rather than the silver widescreen 4-disc set that I pictured above. I hope it's not the fullscreen only versions that are on sale. -ohbfrank-

Regarding the B2G1F on HD-DVD and Blu-ray, I notice in the ad it doesn't say anything about "Select titles only". Wonder if it works on all titles? Circuit City has been known to do that in the past, purposely or not...

I was wondering the same thing. What I noticed is it says the free title must be equal or lesser value, yet all of the ones listed in the ad are the same price. I thought it was kind of useless to have that in there if it did not apply to all titles.

I called my local CC and the guy said it covers all titles for HD DVD and BD. I went to Best Buy and asked them to pricematch (had reward zone $ for helping friends find TVs). Best Buy asked to see the ad, but didn't say anything about the titles shown.
Picked up Transformers, Bourned Identity, and Hot Fuzz. This could be a YMMV...but I think all HD DVDs and BDs are included in the sale.

You can only add 8 items to your cart, so the total comes to 23.92, .08 cents shy of free shipping ... The footloose DVD is 4.99, which brings it over the threshold and you can return anything you want to the store ... (in case you only want a few of the 2.99 titles). Believe me, most of the good stuff WILL NOT be available in the store.

So some of the Circuit City prices on HD-DVDs are a bit high, at least online (ie, 12 Monkeys as $29.99, whereas its $17.99 at Best Buy. If I tried a pricematch at Circuit City, would they let me get the same prices as Best Buy has and do B2G1, or would I only be able to either pricematch or do B2G1? And would Bestbuy.com be a valid source for a pricematch, since these DVDs arent listed in the ad?

I finished about 70% of my holiday shopping by picking up 45 of the $2.99 DVDs that Circuit City had on sale today. I think I should have just bought out all of their Kentucky Fried Movie DVDs and just give those out to guys. Some of the titles rang up at their regular price, so make sure you have the flyer in hand and watch each DVD getting rung up.

Oh wonderful Circus City! I got there about 30 minutes after opening and there were 3 bins of $2.99 with people on all sides and they were stacked 2 layers deep in a mess. It was a pain to look through the titles and was worse than going through a Walmart $5 bin. They only had Accepted, Dance with Me, and Prime in P&S. They had Van Damme's Derailed instead of the 2005 one in the ad. They had Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason, The Butcher's Wife, and The Producers (2005) which weren't in the ad, but didn't have lots of DVDs that were in the ad (like Anna and the King, Black Beauty, Bringing out the Dead, Sling Blade, or White Men Can't Jump to name a few). They said they didn't get some of their shipments. From the list of 14 $2.99 DVDs I wanted from the ad, I ended up only getting 5. Then there were the usual long lines to check out. Par for the course at CC. I felt like saying to them "no wonder your stock price is under $10".
I found a few $2.99 DVDs CC didn't have at the nearby Best Buy. Then I ordered the remaining ones I wanted from CC online with free shipping though 2 were backordered. Strangely several $2.99 DVDs disappeared off the $2.99 online list, but can still be found by searching for titles. Even stranger, Patch Adams UE is also $2.99 so I added that one. Looks like I won't be getting Dance with Me or Prime as nobody has those in widescreen.
Patman, if you bought 45 $2.99 DVDs, you must have bought duplicates or ones you don't want for yourself as gifts. I struggled to find what little I did.

Many more dvds in the bins than listed in their ad. went in just to grab the Sling Blade 2-disc collectors edition for $2.99, but as usual I ended up just grabbing one of their ad flyers and went to Best buy instead where I pricematched. Even if Circuit City had it in stock, checking out at their customer service desk from hell is too much.

I went to CC this morning and there was a pretty good line before opening, it seem like every one was going for the $2.99 DVDs as there was a huge crowd around the bins. All I wanted was the Star Wars widescreen boxset, I picked up one of the three they had on the shelf, and I figured they'd have more of these considering the flyer....strange.

I think 42 of them were for possible gifts at the office (I pass out lots of DVDs every Christmas to officemates). What I don't give out, I just return to CC in December. At $3 a pop, these are cheap gifts.

How is Circuit City when it comes to shipping out backordered items? Thought about a few of the $2.99 dvds but I'd definitely avoid the store if I could...especially considering the odds are 1 in a gazillion that I'd find 'em there.
Also, I may be the only one in this forum who doesn't own the Star Wars trilogy...how does $24.99 sound for it? I looked at a few other places online and it seems like a solid deal.

At mine, they had some trouble but unlike some employees there (must've gotten the logical shift), they read the ad about "equal or lesser value" and that it doesn't say anything about only titles shown. I got 3 HD-DVDs for $54.98. Not a great deal, but decent enough. Picked up MI3, Fast and the Furious and The Getaway. Only slightly less than if I had gotten them via the DD or DVDP sales.

it's a good price, but i think the 2-disc versions are the way to go since they include the theatrical cuts in the special features.
I was going to order the Sling Blade 2-disc SE on the CC web site, which I saw was $2.99 and on backorder last night. But today, they raised it to $12.99 (and it's still on backorder).

I went this morning. Asked floor guy if it was all titles. At first he didnt know. He checks and says all titles. Tried to buy 3 HDDVD titles and they ring up full price. I ask and they say it's only the titles listed. I said I dont see where it says so and I walkout. Real bunch of lame asses. Oh and 2 different CC stores had Shrek III with a price tag for 14.95 under it. Guess how much? 19.95. They're too lazy to even check the stock and make sure the prices are right.

Picked up a few of the $2.99 titles. They were missing the only one I really wanted--Sling Blade. No problem though price matching at Best Buy on the way home. I'd been waiting for that one to hit the $5 mark, so to get it for less than $3 put a smile on my face.
As a few others have mentioned, there were some in the $2.99 display not listed in the ad. A few of the ones I remembered:
