This has been discussed for many weeks in the newspapers and on TV. Businesses are trying to get people into the stores earlier this year due to slow sales experienced during the past 3-6 months. In addition, they're trying to break people of the habit of waiting until "Black Friday" before shopping.

It's always been done that way at every store every year. Black Friday starts a completely different sales ad. Why's this a bad thing? You get two completely different sales in one week you can take advantage of. So that's double the products that are usually on sale in any given week, as long as you're willing to shop on twice a week. You're taking the glass is half-empty view on this.

I was thinking of getting Hairspray: Shake and Shimmy Edition, but I realized, why drive to Best Buy and pay $25.54 after tax for it when I can have it delivered to me free from DeepDiscount for $19.83 while the sale is still on?

does it list "LFoDH" as a steelbook or just 2-disc SE? seems odd it wouldn't be specified as the exclusive steelbook that 1-3 are...

DouglasRobert
11-17-07, 05:35 PM
The ad isn't to clear about whether or not Live Free or Die Hard is a Steelbook or not.

Above the picture of the 2 disc set of LFoDH and the 3 Die Hard films is the words "Best Buy Exclusive Collectible Steel Book Packaging" so there is a possibility that LFoDH is indeed a Steel Book.

Had the 2-disc Green Mile and Departed in my hands tonight at Wal-mart for $9 and put them back. Glad I waited since if I really want 'em I can save a couple of bucks.

Not really, I wasn't all that clear the first time I guess. I was talking more about sales for new releases. I totally see the benifit for two sales for "other" items. But new releases are usually on sale for 7 days, now they are on sale for only 2.

Live Free Or Die Hard steelbook
The Green Mile: 2-Disc SE

EDIT: Well, I price matched FYE for the SEs of Blood Diamond and The Green Mile. I'll still be picking up the steelbook for Live Free Or Die Hard, though.

Got a question:

On Best Buy's site, they have 2 different LFODH titles listed. One is the steelbook and the other is the "Collector's Edition". Only reason I bring this up is the SRP on the steelbook is $29.99 while the CE is $34.99. I want the best version (ie UR and the most features), but looking at the covers, the steelbook doesn't say Unrated...

STEELBOOK:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8538282&st=Live+Free+or+Die+Hard&lp=4&type=product&cp=1&id=1762756

COLLECTOR'S EDITION:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8538326&st=Live+Free+or+Die+Hard&lp=5&type=product&cp=1&id=1756019

And here's the cover to the steelbook which does not say "Unrated" on it...

Nice catch, TheMovieman.
I was set on getting the steelbook, but I as well want the unrated version and the most features. The Collector's Edition appears to say: "First Time Ever. Bonus Digital Copy of Film Included On Disc. Simple, Fast, and Portable for Your Laptop or PC."

So I guess you can save the "Digital Copy" from the disc on your hard drive?
Looks like that's the only difference between the CE & the Unrated 2-disc version, though it's hard to tell. Target is advertising something similar, though they call it the Deluxe Edition (w/ movie cash and 2 hours of footage)

It's all wrapped up in microsoft's digital restriction management. Far easier to just rip the movie directly and skip the entire "digital copy" crappola.

Personally, I don't give a crap about the digital copy, just that I get the unrated 2-disc version... Guess it's best to see for myself on Tuesday since I was going to buy it there anyway.

I finally scored a copy of A Scanner Darkly for $4.99 - price tag was listed at 19.99 but it rang up right. I used my first reward zone cert and just added some mints to get over the $5 threshhold. Pretty good considering that I didn't pay a dime for the membership. So .43 cents out the door with some mints to boot.

My Philip K Dick collection is coming along nicely. Too bad the books are harder to come by.

But on the Target version it says full theatrical movie, so maybe you get the PG-13 version as the digital copy and the Unrated for the DVD? heh, you never know.
I am 99% certain that the steelbook will have the unrated cut. You're probably right, but from the picture & product information, there's no way of knowing for sure yet. The cover looks exactly the same just with missing text.

My Local BB had the $4.99 terminator 3 tag by the HD-DVDs, so I was able to score a copy for five bucks!

I guess this is a huge YMMV, but it worked out for me. i was going to go back and buy more, but the manager removed the sign after adjusting my price.

This finally convinced me. I WILL be buying the 56" DLP Samsung (HLT5676s) and the XBox Pro System for $1499.98. Most likely tomorrow.

I've been watching prices online for a while and this is the TV I want. The cheapest I've seen it is at Amazon for $1499. Since I want the XBox anyway, getting it for free will make up for the $100 tax I pay at BestBuy.

Yes, bring in the ad. There is a slight chance that you might get a Best Buy that won't want to price match because it's only a 4-day sale due to the new Black Friday ad that will come out on Thursday.

I stopped at BB earlier today, and they had a large amount of $4.99 discs; much more than listed in the ads. I picked up the True Romance 2-disc director's cut. Here's the entire list: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&id=pcmcat121700050019

I'll basically be taking in the CC circular to customer service and asking for a price match for everything I have in my hand -- BB's prices suck this week. (I'd just go to CC but it's not available via mass transit.)

is BB offereing a non-steelbook "Live Free or Die Hard" as well as steel? i'm wondering bc i won't be able to get there till 3:30 or so, after work, and don't want to be aced out and i don't want to do in-store pickup for various reasons. i don't remember if they offered non-steel for the Grindhouse releases.
