The Office -- "The Deposition" -- 11/15/2007

THE DEPOSITION
9/8c TV14
11.15.2007

Spoiler:
SUE CRAZY IN THE OFFICE--Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) finds himself between a rock and a hard place when Jan (Melora Hardin) sues Dunder Mifflin and Michael is deposed as a witness. Meanwhile, Kelly (Mindy Kaling) trash-talks Pam (Jenna Fischer) after Darryl (Craig Robinson) beats Jim (John Krasinski) at ping-pong.

Due to the writer's strike, this is the last original episode for the foreseeable future.

The "season finale", eh?

Call me crazy, but I'm kinda getting used to and almost enjoying the idea that all these shows will be going off the air for a long time thanks to the strike.

I can't believe they write/film these eps so close to their air dates that less than 2 weeks into the strike and we're down to our last Office!

Those hour-long episodes really seem like a good idea now, right NBC?

Only one of them could have been broken into two eps. The rest would have to had been full hours.

Why?

Hell, even Family Ties had "to be continued..." episodes.

comedy that can't fit whole story into 30 minutes = comedy that can't fit whole story into 30 minutes

I chose FT to show that a 2-parter would be nothing new... that was 25 years ago.

This is exactly what I want from the Office - legal drama...

Guess it's ANOTHER episode that takes place outside the office.

I thought this was a good episode with some seriously heavy stuff going on for Michael - the deposition bits were almost pure drama, although I did like Toby laughing at Michael's diary mentioning Ryan.

Probably my second favorite episode so far this season.

This was actually a good episode. They kept Michael very grounded and not over the tip. It's a shame that this was the final new episode for the foreseeable future as it seems like they were just starting to hit through stride with this season.

I believe they have 3 more episodes written, but since many of the actors won't cross the pickets line they had to stop production. Also I think they had a break in filming around the time of the convention because I remember they scheduled it at the same time to make sure many of the actors would be available to come.

Great episode -- a nice balance of funny and uneasy moments.

The readback with Michael requesting another bathroom break because he really had to go and that the prior bathroom break was to get out of answering a question.

Was anyone else hoping for a catfight between Pam and Kelly, because that would have been ten kinds of awesome!

I honestly thought Michael would choose Jan over the company, but I guess 14 years with one thing and 6 years with another would make that decision for you.

The tag with Dwight and Mose playing ping pong like professionals was cool. It was nice to see beginners (Pam and Kelly), intermediates (Jim and Daryl) and advanced (Dwight and Mose).

Pam bringing the "calls" to Michael during the meetings was hilarious, especially when he got busted by Ryan.

Dwight yelling at Jim after the ping pong practice because Daryl works for the firm

Decent episode. Definitely shows Steve Carrell's range as an actor.

Hey, I liked this episode, too. It got off to a bit of a slow start, but the series of scenes toward the end with Michael were good stuff. I have often asserted that when they keep Michael toned down, he is a much more sympathetic, likable, and quite honestly funnier character.

Funniest bit to me was the reading of the passages about Ryan from Michael's diary - "Ryan's hot, too, but in a different way than Jan..."

Bathroom scene staredown:

Kelly (to Pam): "Yeah, that's what I thought."

That and despite all the crap Toby gets from Michael in the office much less what's probably written in the diary, he still opens up and Michael pushed his lunch off of the table.

When Toby was talking to Michael about his childhood, I thought, holy crap, Michael is gonna be forced to have sympathy for Toby.

Then Michael, just knocks his tray on the floor and walks off. I lost it there.

and with Toby being the only one who got it was even better.

The thats what she said scene was great too.

And Kelly may be the best secondary charactor on the show, along with Creed.
