I've got a problem, and, my Google searches didn't reveal anything that helped.
I am using an RCA DRC 6100 dvd/vhs combo.
Earlier, I put a dvd in, and, the intro screen came up, and, I started looking around at different settings and things using the remote control to scan through the different options. Ok. I put it on "progressive scan." I wish I hadn't. You see, now all I get is a black screen.
And, the big problem is that I can't even see the screen in order to change it back. The vhs part still works fine and gets a picture. Not the dvd part tho. I'm stuck.
Any ideas would be very very appreciated.

Try searching the net for a reset function for your model. Could just try unplugging it for half an hour or more.
Otherwise you could bring it to a progressive TV somehow, plug it in and switch back to interlaced.

It should tell you in the owner's manual (usually in the troubleshooting area), how to reset it to factory settings.

Temporarily unplug the component cables and connect the player to your TV via a single composite video cable and see if that will let you see the menus so you can turn off the progressive scan.

Mike, I am going to try that. I don't know if I have a single composite cable, I will have to look around or possibly go buy one.
I wanted to add that I did download the user manual. I came across a very good website which has all sorts of manuals in pdf form, and, I now can't find it again..... but, you guys probably know about it anyway....
I tried to follow the instructions in there to reset the machine, but, it didn't work.
Then I noticed it offered another way:
Tip: You can also toggle progressive scan and interlace mode by pressing and holding the PAUSE button when a disc
is not playing.
So, I held down the pause button on the unit, and, that didn't work either.
I don't really know anybody that has a progressive scan tv.
But, I am going to look at Mike's suggestion.
thank you all,

You can use a component cable as a composite cable.

I also wanted to ask is if I'm correct in thinking that progressive scan applies to dvd but not vhs...... ??? because, the vhs part does get a picture .... I was talking to somebody on the phone (my email to rca got back an email with a number to call) and the woman said that if the vhs part is playing than it has nothing to do with progressive scan .... it means the dvd is playing......
I just don't know much about tv or dvd stuff, and, I feel weird even talking about progressive scan .... all I know is that right, and, I mean right, after I put it into progressive scan mode all I could get on the dvd part was a black screen.

It should only apply to DVD. It's possible that a combo player would convert VHS to progressive. But I don't think they ever do.
