I normally skip time-consuming polls like this one but for some reason this one caught my interest enough to go through the exercise. I expected to end up compiling some massive list that would require an hour to pare down but I only ended up with 27 films anyway. As such, I am going to post all 27 and not try and figure out which 2 I would remove.

Keep in mind that this is, in reality, just a list of my favorites from 2000-2006 since I am way behind this year on films and haven't even seen several noteworthy entries from '06 yet such as United 93, Notes on a Scandal, Pan's Labyrinth, Volver and a few others.

In no particular order:

21 Grams
The Fog of War
Monster House
Capturing the Friedmans
The Station Agent
Memento
The Departed
You Can Count On Me
Traffic
Bridget Jones's Diary
High Fidelity
Children of Men
The Deep End
In the Bedroom
Lantana
The Pianist
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind
The Incredibles
Finding Nemo
Sideways
Shaun of the Dead
Vera Drake
The Constant Gardener
Syriana
The Squid and the Whale
Little Children
The Lives of Others

I must not have cared too much for the year 2002, since The Pianist is the only entry from that year.

Looks like Children of Men has the most mentions so far, about ten or slightly over. Well, Lord of the Rings has more but that's LotR. It's sort of a given, for better or for worse.

Here's IMDB's Top 25:
  1. The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
  2. Cidade de Deus
  3. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
  4. Memento
  5. Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain
  6. The Departed
  7. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  8. El Laberinto del fauno
  9. The Pianist
  10. Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi
  11. Das Leben der Anderen
  12. Der Untergang
  13. Requiem for a Dream
  14. Sin City
  15. Hotel Rwanda
  16. The Prestige
  17. Ratatouille
  18. Batman Begins
  19. American Gangster
  20. The Bourne Ultimatum
  21. Million Dollar Baby
  22. Kill Bill: Vol. 1
  23. Donnie Darko
  24. Oldboy
  25. Gladiator

The bold did not appear on our lists (afaik).

I actually just bumped it - I can't believe that I forgot about Almost Famous.

It was surprising how long my list was when it was first put together. It was kind of weird to trim it down to 25.
