I was looking and have been looking at mega changers and changers with 300 and up storage. Are there any changers out there that can be linked (without a computer) to accommodate up to 1500 and over dvd's?
Please don't put the kaleidescope crap on here for 26,000 dollars i can custom build my own carousel 3000 dvd changer with imdb info download for each dvd and upc scan. I don't have time to build my own however so I am looking for a little assistance.

I was thinking about ripping all the dvd's and putting them on my current 10tb media server were I house all my downloaded media (10 years worth) But it would be so much easier as i don't have time for much to just stick them all in a giant changer and choose play when i'm ready to watch one.

So questions i need answered:

1. Any changers capable of holding this many (linked or not to multiple units)
2. Possibly pc software (other than media center) to organize this many divx videos and play via coverart (with upc scan for downloading information) I currently use libra however it doesn't have htpc remote control and that's critical if i have to use a computer because i'm a busy man and it's gotta be fast and easy.

I believe there's really only one model even being made right now. A 400 disc-er by Sony. Maybe 2 models by Sony if they are still making the ES model.

There is nothing fast and easy about 1500 DVDs stored on or controlled by a PC.

And about the only real control setup I know of that can handle 1500 DVDs is the Sony 777ES changer (4 of them) plus Escient Fireball controllers. Not real cheap once you get everything.

Hi spiky. I'm from anoka.

A couple Questions for you please.
I use to work in the AV field, and well spent alot of money on equipment at the time. I have 3 sony 777ES changers, A Mitsubishi Ws 55859 Platinum hdtv.

Well now that Hd is out. I'm wondering what my options are here.. ive searched the net high and low. looking for a good fix... And then I stumbled across this forum.

MY hdtv has a Beautiful picture. but only has vga\component\svdieo connections. No HDMI

My sony changers only will push out 480P via component

Now i bought a xbox 360. and have that connected to HDTV via the component cables. AND WOW what a beautiful picture... a 300 dollar unit. Due to how technology changes is putting my at one time highend changers to shame. not to mention when i stream HDTV CLIPS from the computer WIRELESSLY to xbox 360 (it's clearer then my dvd's out of changers)

any suggestions on what i can do here? there has to be something\an adapter\a tweak\ scaler\ etc... to improve the picture of my 777es's? or is it just simply... technology has changed, and i'm out the money i spent? Same with this AWESOME TV.. just because it doesnt have HDMI... am i screwed? I ran to Best-NOT-Buy(and of course they had no knowledge and told me all there hdplayers would work) I've searched the net and from what i'm reading these new players that offer upconverting only do it with an HDMI cable.... Not upconvert with the component side.

I love the idea of my discs being stored\and i have the changers hooked up to my computer via rs232, and then i can view all my dvd's on my hometheater interface on the computer\laptop, and choose my movies, and the rs232 will send a command to the appopraite changers and then play the movie.

If you have any suggestions on what i can do i'd appreciate it... tomm im going to call mitsubishi and see if maybe they have something i can add to my hdtv to improve the changers video quality.. but i have a feeling that will be unlikely. i just think there has to be a solution to get similiar\more comparable video then the 480p i'm getting..

also. these new bluray\hd dvd players. which UPCONVERT your original dvd's.. In Your opinion...is the quality that noticable? or is this a new technology gimick\matter of opinion\only noticable with a good eye to us Audio\Video Philes?

Thanks Neighbor for your time and knowledge :)

If you want to upgrade the picture without losing your giant storage capability, look into external processors. Possibly DVDO iScan.

With a recent HDTV, upconversion happens at some point since none of them do the 480p option anymore. Since it WILL happen, whichever does the best job is what you want. But your TV may have that 480p option, which would mean you might actually have a better pic (since it is native) than a more recent HDTV for DVDs. Arguments over this will no doubt ensue.

well i will give you one thing. My dad and friends who all have newer HDTV's all agree my old Mitsu. is by far better quality then any of there's and all of there tv's are not even a yr old. I love the Tv. just wish i could find a good way to upconvert. Will check into the dvdo iscans.. i fi remeber correctly they were quite spendy last i checked.

thank you for the reply

I can't speak for Spiky (who's way more HT knowledgeable than myself), but I definitely do not. :D

I'm sure this won't help since it involves media center but you can organize your movies with Movie Collector Pro www.collectorz.com and export the list into media center. The movies would need to be on the computer as you would place a link in Movie Collector as to where it is.

Then when you start media center, you can browse by cover art. If you have a media extender, like the xbox 360, you can watch on your tv.
