I didn't think they made songs like this anymore. A friend told me this was the best R&B song he's been hearing and I was expecting something like Ne-Yo + Babyface...

Anthony Hamilton — "Do You Feel Me"

Delightful.

I'm pretty happy with Alicia Keys' new one due out next week. It doesn't sound as overproduced as Diary or Songs..

Anthony Halmilton has always been pretty great without much recognition. I saw him once on a late night show and his passion and energy blew my mind. Having said that, Do You Feel Me, does have more of a throw back feel. Not surprising since it is attached to a movie set in the 70s/80s. But he has a great voice.

Half of the Chrisette Michele album is good R&B. Especially the jazzier sounding ones.

I've been a huge fan of Hamilton ever since "Comin' from where I'm from". He should have gotten a grammy nomination that year.

Shameless plug for my favourite nu-soul artist: Anthony Hamilton covered Lewis Taylor's "Betterlove" on his Southern Comfort album. Van Hunt's self-titled debut is also a great slice of modern R&B...

i agree this is a good song, but don't see how this retro sound should be what TODAY's R&B sounds like

More new stuff that sounds old (think Delfonics):

Mayer Hawthorne & the County — "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" (MP3)

Agree that that's a great song. Thanks for reminding me, I've gotta check my local record store and see if they still have the heart-shaped 45 in stock.

I'll have to check the above out when I get home from work, but two strong '08 R&B albums that sound like they were produced in a different time:

Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It
Al Green - Lay It Down

I'm usually not a fan of current R&B/soul, so maybe that's why these throwback-sounding ones appeal to me.
