Last year I bought a Samsung 61" DLP TV and in general I'm very happy with it, but I always notice a high-pitched whistle coming from it - a lot like a dog whistle. If I'm watching a show intently I can kind of tune it out, but it's quite noticeable to me, especially during times when the TV is quiet. However my wife insists she can't hear it at all (and she's always saying I'm the one who has bad hearing).

Has anyone else noticed this? Does this mean I have better hearing than my wife in the high-pitched range, or is there something wrong with my TV? What kinds of TVs (if any) have fewer reports of this? Would I be better-off with a non-DLP TV?

Also, currently I have hardwood floors in my TV room - would I be better-off if I put down carpeting to try to deaden the noise?

Found this in part of a review on Amazon for a Samsung LCD HDTV:

"I called Samsung and they told me they have heard about this problem with there DLP TV that contain a colorwheel..."

You might want to call Samsung customer service and see what they say. If it's a known problem, maybe something simple can be done.

The wheels do make noise, usually a high-pitched whine. I thought RPTVs usually had them buried enough to not be an issue, maybe yours a noisy model. When I had a DLP, I could occasionally hear it since it had a different noise than the cooling fan.

I agree that it shouldn't be loud enough to impact your listening. Hope it's not too late to get it checked out.
