I am going on a cruise this month and I noticed they have a casino that offers Caribbean stud and three card poker. It got me wondering, do cruise ships ever offer poker tournaments? I thought that this would be a lot of fun, but I was curious if anyone can offer up any comments or thoughts based on their experiences. Thanks!

They have blackjack tournaments. I've never seen a cruise ship with a poker room, though.

Royal caribbean offers poker. When I went it was just 1table 5/10 limit. Some now have 2/5NL tables now.

$5/$10....ouch! It makes sense though, a captive audience and all.

She's pretty demanding if she needs a cruise just to put out.
Oh, you mean the popular card game.

Really. Must be new (within the last 3-4 years or so). My last cruise on Royal was back in 2004.

You could always go this route: http://www.cardplayercruises.com/ and
http://www.cardplayercruises.com/faq03.htm
-or- if you don't live in the US Party Poker holds the annual poker cruise: http://www.partypoker.com/tournaments/party_poker_million/
But seeing as you already have a trip booked keep it in mind for future cruises.

Yeah I went Apr 06. Adv of the seas, and they said poker was just put in recently. Somebody mentioned that some carnival cruises had them too.
I got owned on my first hand of my bj tourney.
www.worldpokershowdown.com used to offer nice poker cruise packages as well.

On the subject of cruises, what are the minimums, generally, for blackjack?
Going on a cruise (Royal Caribbean) next week. Gambling would likely be a late-night affair, after my wife and her parents have gone to bed (I'm the only one who cares about gambling).

I think it was pretty expensive. Maybe $15 or $20.

Was just on Princess a couple of weeks ago. BJ (dirty people) was $5. Love having something to fall back on with bad runs. Usually I was $10-$20 a hand though.
But what I thought was fun (read new) to see, but ZERO in experience (although online poker is definitely changing that), was that the 2 TX Hold tables were automated.
Meaning you played off of a touch screen and in the middle of the table was a large screen replacing chips, cards, dealer etc. $$$ was all dealt through a card (which is common with many casinos etc on VP, slots etc.).
Of course I can see the reason why this would be done but it does take away from the total experience. I think I saw something similar to this, maybe Bally's?, for roulette? I can't remember.

The electronic games BLOOOOOOOOOOOOW. They've had a couple in vegas I think, and they tried some of the poker tables at my local indian casino.

I was on Carnival in September and they had the electronic tables. They had something like 3 poker tournaments throughout the cruise. I wanted to play but the middle game was full... the last game's buy-in was $120 and that was too much for me for something I had never done.
