For the past half hour or so I've been looking for info on the rumored iptv service for the fall update. Does anyone know what the visual quality of the content is supposed to be? I seem to remember there being more information months ago then there is now. I know there will be live tv and on demand service but I don't see anything about channels or what the quality of the live TV service is.

Oh really I didn't read that :( Anyhow it's going to come eventually, and I was interested in knowing what they were going to offer. If the live TV stuff is all SD though I don't think I would be willing to pay for it. Oh well if it's not in the Fall update then I guess it's going to be another six months before it's a possibility again.

Major Nelson on achievement boosting via game saves (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/10/30/Xbox-LIVE-account-sharing-and-Gamesave-tampering-dont-do-it.aspx) and the ban hammer.
While I am on the subject of things you should not do, I strongly urge you not to tamper with your Gamerscore and Achievements. If you decide to employ some nefarious techniques to artificially increase your Gamerscore or obtain achievements by manipulating the Xbox software without playing the game, bad things will happen. What type of bad things? For one thing we may remove the entire Gamerscore for an account that contains manipulated gamerscore. Let me be more clear: If you use tampered gamesaves to boost your Achievements and Gamerscore, you may sign in to Xbox LIVE one day and discover that we have removed your Gamerscore. Once we do that, you will never be able to re-earn those achievements on that account. Even worse, you might have your account and/or console banned from Xbox Live.
As you can imagine, we know how to find out if you do this and we do take action. And we'll continue to do so.
The best way to increase your Gamerscore or gain that Achievement is to earn it like a real gamer; play the game. Then you can rightly be proud of your Gamerscore as you earned it yourself and not have to worry about anything. I imagine that the majority of you earn your Gamerscore honorably, but I know there are some people out there are may not be as honest. In short: Don't do it. It's not worth it.

From Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/29/microsoft-iptv-not-a-part-of-xbox-live-fall-update/)
Turns out those images of an Xbox 360 with IPTV were legit. In a statement issued by Microsoft, the Redmond-based company acknowledged that the IPTV features "were inadvertently exposed while the customer's console was being serviced and is unrelated to the Fall Update."
The IPTV features, according to the statement, are part of the Microsoft Mediaroom services and will be made available to service providers by the end of this year, adding that it will be up to them to decide when the service is deployed. We've posted Microsoft's complete statement after the break.
"Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) features will only be available from the Xbox 360 through a service provider who has deployed Xbox 360 with Microsoft Mediaroom (IPTV) services. This was an isolated incident where these features were inadvertently exposed while the customer's console was being serviced and is unrelated to the Fall Update. Xbox 360 with Microsoft Mediaroom (IPTV), will be available to service providers by the end of the year. Microsoft's IPTV service providers will ultimately determine the timing of Xbox 360 with Microsoft Mediaroom deployments."

I'm not sure about banning people for using saves to boost their gamerscore. Maybe is because I don't care about the Gamerscore. I like to get some achievements, but i don't care about the whole number per se.
If they want to enforce that, they should also take care of games where you can get 1000 points in 30 mins or something like that.
pinata242
10-30-07, 02:44 PM
I agree that banning is a little harsh. Have a single game and its achievements stricken and unobtainable, sure. I don't see why Microsoft really cares if someone is boosting a meaningless stat like gamerscore.

I would think that it takes away the fun and competition with things like the recent Old Spice challenge. Think about it - it would have sucked if you earned the points honestly in order to get the free game only to lose out to someone who simply put a memory card into their machine.

I'm sure that this can be spun in different directions, but multiple sources are now reporting that GameStop is ceasing the sale of extended warranties for the Xbox 360.
According to an e-mail that Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/gamestop-halts-360-replacement-plan-sales/) is displaying, the extended warranties for new, used and refurbished systems are being halted.
That's an interesting development, especially with the newer versions of the hardware getting into the retail chute now. Microsoft is still offering its own warranty extensions for up to 3 years.
PixyJunket
10-30-07, 04:10 PM
Warranties from places like GameStop are essentially scams, so the fact that the hardware is faulty enough to necessitate coverage, their scam fails and they lose money. They're not offering the warranty because they know they'll have to follow up on it, they bank on getting your $50 and never seeing you again.

All retailer-offered warranties are scams, not just GameStop's. It's easy to pick on GameStop because of their dominating nature in the gaming retail sector, but big box stores like Best Buy are just as guilty of operating these scams.

Do the new Xbox 360 premium packages with the two free games have the hardware upgrades? I'm really wanting to play the new NCAA football and I don't have any of the new generation systems. I remember when i bought my 1st 360 at Sears. Normally they give you the "Do you want an Ext. Warr. for your Purchase? We have 1 year, 2 years....".
Well this time they didn't give me the line and I thought it odd so I asked about it, and sure enough they said they weren't giving warranties for 360's and that I'd have to get one from Microsoft.
Looking back, it makes sense. They knew people were going to be using that Ex. Warr. more on the 360 than probably any other item they sold in their store so not offering one was the best thing for them to do.
I'm mixed on ext. warranties because I've bought some that I never used, and I've bought some that saved me when my purchase went bad.

When you say other adapters, what do you mean? To my knowledge, the 360 won't work with any other USB adapters, which makes the official one, though overpriced, a simple plug and play option that attaches to the back of the 360 and doesn't need it's own plug.
Otherwise, a wireless bridge (even the Xbox's one) works fine, but requires more wires, a plug, etc.

Ok, for shits and gilles I tried setting up media sharing with WMP 11 and the 360. S far I got the PC connected, but that was only after turning off Zone Alarm and turning on Windows Firewall which has the proper port settings ready to go. At that point all the Network tests Passed and I could see files from the PC.
But when I switched back to ZA and turned off Windows FW, all the tests Passed except Streaming. But even with that, I can still see Music, Video, and Pics on my computer. What does this mean? I can can still play/view the files but why is the Streaming test Failing?

I bought a Buffalo G125 (I got mine for $30) router, and use it as a wireless bridge to connect wirelessly to my main router. The best part is I can connect up to 4 devices (ie. other consoles) wirelessly to my main router through the bridge. See the following website for how to flash the firmware and get it connected to your existing wireless router. Your existing wireless router type shouldn't matter.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation
It's definitely not the easiest way, but much cheaper and ultimately better, since you can hook up 4 devices to the bridge.

I got it when it first came out and thought it was pretty good. The Harpoon gun is great! Also, the racing thing that it unlocks is pretty decent as well, even if its not a full-fledged driving game. If I have a DVD in the drive and then turn on the XBOX, there's nothing I can do to make the movie play. I have to physically open and close the drive of the DVD player in order to make the movie play. So what I'm wondering if there's any way to play a DVD that's already in the drive when you turn on the XBOX.

On your opening screen, scroll down to the bottom and you will see the long area that is the dvd/disc drive. Choose it with your remote or controller. The game drive is the top half-circle and the HD-dvd drive (if you have one) is the bottom half circle. Done and done.

OOOOHHHH top half and bottom half, THANKS!!!! :D I went all over looking for a way to play (pressing the play button on the remote should be sufficient). I got all the way to the top of the circle and didn't realize there was a bottom, thanks again! :D

Still, will be worth a try with the receipt. Worst they can say is no.

ESPN games can be purchased for download to Xbox 360
Associated Press
Updated: November 5, 2007, 12:40 AM ET
SEATTLE -- Microsoft Corp. has added college basketball and other ESPN programming to the growing lineup of video content available for download to its Xbox 360 video game console.
Microsoft and ESPN said people can purchase complete NCAA basketball and football games, the X Games sports competitions and programs like ESPN's "Madden Nation," which chronicles a competition of "Madden NFL" video game players, from the Xbox Live Web site.
Xbox 360 users can buy commercial-free standard-definition versions of select NCAA games for $3, and high-definition versions for $4.50, within 48 hours of the game's conclusion. ESPN TV shows, like the other TV content on the Xbox Live download site, cost $2 for standard-definition and $3 for high-def versions.
As part of the agreement, ESPN is considering ways to incorporate the Xbox Live online gaming community into its telecasts. ESPN spokesman Paul Melvin said there are no firm plans for how this will be done.
The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal when it was announced late Sunday.
Ross Honey, a senior director of the media and entertainment group at Microsoft, said action and horror movies are popular genres for the Xbox Live audience, as are "edgier" animated TV shows like "South Park."
"At the end of the day, most of our consumers are young males," Honey said. "You have a perfect match here."
ESPN already delivers live, streaming sports footage to customers of certain broadband Internet providers.
"Delivering content through Xbox 360 is another way that we can connect fans with the sports they have such passion for," said Matt Murphy, senior vice president of digital video distribution for Disney and ESPN Media Networks. ESPN is owned by The Walt Disney Co.

Well, I went to Best Buy with my receipt. The first CS person was a little confused and said "you already got 3 free hddvds." I explained that it was 2 seperate offers and another CS person walked over and agreed and explained to the first about the 2 offers.
When she scanned my receipt and the HD-DVD, it wanted to give me the 2 I already had and the new one in my hand free but adjust the price of Heroes up to $65. The 2nd CS person told her to return the hd dvd drive and two movies to a giftcard and then ring them all with the 3rd movie. It worked out and I left with a 3rd free movie. I just have to hope that because the original receipt was used and shows the hd-dvd drive returned that my credit card is retroactively charged the price of the hereos set. If that happens, I will be contacting Best Buy to make them fix it or dispute it with my credit card.

True... Once she understood what to do, it was easy enough. I just have to keep watch on my credit card for a while. The guy that explained everything to the first girl said my credit card would be fine as they didn't refund to the credit card and re-ring everything. He said since they refunded to a gift card and I purchased everything again, it will be fine.

Well, if there was any kind of adjustment on the Heroes set it would have shown up on the new receipt they gave you. If it didn't show up you should be free and clear. The receipt would have to show that they charged you something to go against your credit card.
I think I may not even worry about it knowing that once they scan my receipt everything will go crazy. (that's just my normal luck).

No go at my Best Buy for the extra movie. Said that I would have to bring everything back for them to do a return and rebuy, and that it'd invalidate the rebate I sent out because of the repurchase. Still, I'm tempted to stop by another BB and see if they'll say the same.
On another topic, are any of you using the 360 to play media files off a usb drive? I tried encoding an mp4 file with Nero 7's Recode. The 360 recognizes the file, but gives an error. It's already downloaded the update for it.

BS ALERT! BS ALERT!
I strongly doubt that there's any way that the rebate people can know if your purchase has been retruned or not. They would have to search the databases of every retailer in the country. The assumption is that you can't return it without the UPC symbol from the package and that's why it is required for the rebate. Well, I'll know for sure when my discs come in, but nothing's been rejected for me and it's been over a month...

I really wish a future update would raise the 100 spot cap on the friends list. I constantly have to go through my list and purge some people to make room for any new people I meet.
I can't believe that 2 years after the launch of the system, they are still limited in the space you have on a friends list. I'm not asking them for unlimited spots, but at least doubling it would be nice. I play a fair number of games and meet people that are cool to play with so I get them on my list. Then, I have a big chunk taken up by clan mates so that we can get in games together.
They need to either make the friends list bigger or implement clan lists so that you can free up those spots on your friends list by putting them in your clan list to see when they are on and what they are playing.

Any doubts about the 360 being the dominate console this generation are ending for me. I had no doubt it would rule the US and UK, but it outsold the PS3 in Japan this week. Halo3 did pretty well and now Ace Combat was the #2 selling title behind Mario in Japan. I'm not going to say the 360 will sell huge numbers there, but the Japanese are slowing coming around and the 360 has a chance to a least be respectable there.
Have to give it up to Microsoft. They learned from the original and built a great online experience and made sure to load their system with AAA titles.
The Wii will have continued success, but I really consider it a separate kind of thing now. It definitely can't match the 360 in software sales in the US and that is what matters most to third parties. The PS3 is just in big trouble. No good way to spin it.
lordwow
11-09-07, 09:12 AM
I'm surprised at how stalled the 360 has got compared to the Wii though. I mean it's clearly doing better than the PS3, and will probably have a great holiday season (though not as good as the Wii again). But, it's still not like superb numbers. I've talked to a lot of my friends who all love the 360 but are hesitant to get one for a number of reasons (RROD, price drops, "too addicting"). It's pretty interesting, I've shifted slowly from the Wii camp to the 360 camp, especially with the slew of game on 360, but I agree that it's all but over for the PS3.

I would not count one good week of sales because of the release of an single anticipated game a good sign, it'll be buried back under the PS3 next week. Microsoft has still failed in Japan because they STILL don't understand that the market there is different.
In case you're all wondering, the 360's smattering success in Japan last week was whopping 17,673 units, far beyond the PS3's miniscule 17,434 units. Microsoft has won Japan! Final Fantasy XIII is coming in glorious 640p!

Yeah hyperbole is amazing isn't it? Yes the 360 won one week, and that's cool as hell, but nobody actually expects it to mean much, it spiked when Blue Dragon came out as well and was promptly back to 3000 units a week.
That said, at least there is occasional increased interest in the system, which is an improvement over the original brick. Your 640p comment was kind of out of nowhere.

Now that the PS3 is $400 and the same price as the 360, the only real problem is that there aren't any damn games. Once PS3 games start coming out at a consistent pace, the PS3 will kick the 360's ass in Japan at least.

But now the 360 is cheaper with pack-in games (and not the worst movie from a decent trilogy). But I agree, gamers go where the games are, the PS3 needs to step it up... and somebody needs to develop a 360 or at least Dreamcast-style control pad for the PS3 so I can play shooters on it.

I don't know, i think Microsoft is perfectly aware that the market is different and have tried to meet those requirements. They've certainly tried to hit the RPG market, as well as a couple of the more quirky games.
Is there anything out in Japan for the PS3 that they're going crazy over that warrants the sales?

Ninja Gaiden II, Dead Rising and Lost Planet, for example, are all Japanese developed games made for Western audiences. Microsoft seems to think that Mistwalker is going to support them in Japan with one RPG a year, good luck with that. I suppose it'll be interesting to see how Infinite Undiscovery does (tri-Ace, 360 only) and The Last Remnant (Square-Enix, dual platform) do.
I think the PS3 is heading in the same direction.. most of the games that are going to be popular over there are being made for the DS and Wii now. Developing for the 360/PS3 is understandably an expensive endeavor, so I think there will be an unnerving focus on the US/European markets for those systems given the massive size difference in the markets compared to Japan. I do expect Sony has a LOT riding on Final Fantasy XIII but that game is easily another two years away.. and it's also the one RPG popular in the US.

DR and LP were in development before the 360 launched. Who knows about NGII. With games taking up to 3 years to produce and the 360 only being 2 years old, wouldn't we just now be seeing a reaction to the japanese market? Even stuff like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey would have likely been in early development prior to seeing the results of the Japanese market.
With long development cycles, they can't just press a button called "fix Japan" and have a dozen games overnight. I think Infinite Undiscovery is the first "post-360 failure" attempt to put a band-aid on the Japanese problem. There are likely other projects under-wraps for that market as well.

Yeah, but after the original XBox, surely Microsoft knew that they weren't successful in Japan and would have lined up some sort of game plan for the 360. I'd say the deal with Mistwalker is certainly in response to the original XBox's failure and an attempt to appease Japanese gamers.
Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey would be in response to seeing the results of the Japanese market of the original XBox.
DivX CEO Slips, Says DivX possibly heading to the XBox 360
DivX's brand new CEO, Kevin Hell, accidentally leaked some juicy info about their Xbox 360 plans when questioned at a JP Morgan conference. An analyst questioned Hell about the new media center extenders that have DivX and Xvid compatibility and whether the same functionality was coming to Xbox. Kevin replied, "Yes! that, uh, we're in discussions with Microsoft on that at this point in time, so I can't go into any great detail on that. Um, that is not a certified, that is not a certified or licensed product at this time." The sweet sounds of backpedaling are like Chopin for our DivX-starved ears. Didnt know much about that game but i see it plays in the 3rd person perspective(ala Ghost Recon) which is nice for me since i struggle with the controller less than in the 1st person.Still trying to make the transition from PC gaming for so many years back to console ;)

Mass Effect technically is not a shooter. It is an RPG, and if it is anything like past Bioware RPGs, it will be a very in-depth RPG.

Nerds in love (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/personality/trixie/communityspotlights/20071108-halo3proposal.htm)
On November 3, 2007 Moviesign made a Forge map in Halo® 3, and set up what his girlfriend of over two years (furtive penguin) thought was going to be a two-on-two match with his friends. They started the game and Moviesign led furtive penguin to a spot where he claimed he'd put an energy sword.
Instead there was a nice top-down view where he had spelled out a proposal in weapons. He then asked her to be his teammate for life.
She said yes.
Furtive penguin and Moviesign recently moved from Indianapolis to Chicago where she (penguin) is a copyeditor and he (Movie) is a graphic designer. They haven't set a wedding date yet. As furtive penguin said, "We're waiting to see what the release date is for the next Halo game. We don't want any conflicts."
Congratulations to furtive penguin and Moviesign from the entire Xbox community!

From Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/fall-xbox-360-dashboard-update-revealed-download-halo-december/):
Official Xbox Magazine has the scoop on the Fall Xbox 360 dashboard update, and you better believe it's a doozy. UK-based CVG reports that the December 2 update will allow 360 owners to download and play Microsoft-published Xbox 1 games on their 360s.
Let's say that one more time: come December 2, you will be able to download full, original Xbox games to the Xbox 360. The initial list of available games includes Fable, Indigo Prophecy, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex, Burnout 3, and, of course, Halo: Combat Evolved.
Games will cost approximately 1200 Microsoft Points, or $15 USD. Microsoft plans on re-releasing as many Xbox 1 titles as possible through Marketplace. Look out, Virtual Console.
Though, CVG has since yanked the article.

The original article at CVG:
The Fall Xbox 360 dashboard update has been revealed to our colleagues at OXM from Microsoft and it's looking very good indeed with gaming classics and films on demand.
December 4 (Tuesday) is the date you'll need to watch out for; that's the day you'll be able to download and play Halo. Yes, Halo as in the Xbox game, through Marketplace, on your Xbox 360.
Microsoft is introducing games it has published for the original Xbox on XBL Marketplace, with the eventual plan to bring as much of the back catalogue across as possible.
Games cost about 1200 Microsoft points (about ten quid), which according to us puts them a little over what you'd pay for them second hand.
The initial list of downloads includes Halo, Fable, Fahrenheit, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex and Burnout 3. All good then, apart from maybe Crash.
And if that wasn't enough, films on demand, though not confirmed for the December 4 date, aren't far away. Studios such as Warner Bros are potentially lined up for the service, so we can look forward to films such as The Dark Knight, The Assassination of Jesse James and I Am Legend appearing eventually.
Films will cost less than a fiver and come in 720p resolution. You have 14 days to start watching a film once it has downloaded. Once you started watching a film, you have 24 hours to finish it. After that, the film deletes itself from your hard drive. It's basically an online rental service then, like the US Video Marketplace.
What do these new additions mean for the future of Xbox Live Arcade? Does the PS3's PSOne download service now look horribly dated? It's going to be an exciting 2008 in the download space, for sure.

I'm experiencing a really weird problem with my Elite, which is hooked up to my HDTV with the HDMI cable that MS packaged with the console.
Back in August, I had some friends over and, when we went to play Gears of War, I turned my system on and had no sound whatsoever. This problem was eventually remedied by turning the system off, unplugging the cable and plugging it back in, and then turning the TV off/back on.
The problem was pretty dormant until recently, when I turned my console on to watch the Transformers HD-DVD. When I turned it on, I once again had no sound. I tried to do the same things I did before, to try to fix it, but nothing worked...so I just left it for a bit. About 15 minutes later, I tried it again and it worked perfectly.
I encountered the problem yet again, this morning when I went to play some video games with some rare free time that I had. I turned it on and had no sound whatsoever. I tried turning it on and off several times, but to no avail. I also tried unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it back in, but that didn't work at all. I haven't tried it since.
Since the 360 is my favourite console at the moment, I spend 90% of my gaming time using it. I have purchased every other console, but I don't find any of them to be as fun as the 360 - plus, it's got the most good games out. So, this is really starting to annoy me.
Anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone have any idea of what it could be? I'm 90% positive that it's the HDMI cable, but I'm worried that it could be something else. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I could be wrong, but I don't think they're saying that the movies will be on XBL while they're in theaters. They said they would be on XBL "eventually", plus the article appears to be from a British site (the quid reference), and as far as I know, only the U.S. currently has the downloadable movies and TV shows through Live. I guess the next update will enable that feature in other regions.
Here's the quote from the article that seems to support that:
"Films will cost less than a fiver and come in 720p resolution. You have 14 days to start watching a film once it has downloaded. Once you started watching a film, you have 24 hours to finish it. Man, I would be though. I hate going to the movie theater and being able to see a new release in HD without popcorn being chomped on in my ears and cells phone being answered, I would probably see movies a lot more when they first came out. I don't think this will happen anytime soon but I think it is a great idea and will come about eventually.
As far as downloading original Xbox games...another great idea. In my opinion the price should be more around $10 than $15 but it is still a good idea.
My question: How much are they going to take up of my already meager 20GB harddrive?

I haven't been to a movie at the theater for over 5 years, and then it was only because friends all wanted to go and dragged me along.
What do they even get for a movie ticket now? Last time I went I think it was about $7? Don't remember.
But if you have a decent little home theater setup, I'd pay 2x the single admission price anyways, to get a fairly recent release as a download. But I think it'd make piracy too easy...maybe that wouldn't be an issue though. They could just delay making it available for download for 2 or 3 weeks, so the theaters would still get their big opening weekend crowds. Plus I don't think it would lower the theater attendance overall much, because a majority of people are still going to go out for something to do.

Hmm.. unlike VC games you can easily walk into any GameStop and grab most OG Xbox games for $5-$10 with case and manual, but that's still very cool.. other than the fact that this would finally make the 20GB HDD severely inefficient. Hopefully this means that they're still working on future BC updates because I'm almost 100%, I believe I just need Sudeki, Otogi and Otogi 2 to close out all the OG games I own.. though I'll be honest, I could probably settle for just getting Sudeki supported.

I was just talking to a coworker about this very topic. It would be awesome if they souped up these titles somehow, but I'm sure they'll just be disc images that the 360 will mount. I doubt they'll even re-encode the FMV sequences with DivX (as I assume it is coming) or any more modern A/V codec at all to reduce the footprint.
The 13gb of usable space I have is only going to support 1 or 2 Xbox games probably. 3 at the very outside.

Via upscaling, I'm sure. Doesn't it do that already if you pop a disc in? It's just a matter of emulation vs. retooling the software.
I don't pretend to know what the right answer is, I'm just assuming they aren't doing anything to the compiled code and resources on the discs.

I was midway through mission 6 in Halo 3 when I was disconnected from live
(playing single player on legendary, wasn't about to toss my progress away)
last night.
Found the skull while off and received the achievement, then was able to log
back in while at the ending cinematic for the mission and the achievement
was still listed among those I'd unlocked.
The Bungie site also had my complete stats for the mission as well, so the
game/360 stored it and sent it when it could.

Have no idea if the games are remotely any good, but Target has their summer family movie-inspired video games on clearance. Fantastic Four ROTSS is $9.98, Harry Potter OOTP is $19.98 and Shrek the Third is $12.48. I picked up the Shrek game since my daughter loves the character despite the crappy third film. I can't imagine one would at least break even if trading these in after a quick play-through/ Achievement hunt.

Also I goofed above. Harry Potter is $19.98, but Shrek is indeed $12.48. I'm going to see if the Live Arcade Shek game is worth getting for my daughter; I sort of doubt it, but I'll check out the demo anyway.

Carcassonne is free through today. A Great game, my most played on my Xbox. Unfortunately, I already bought it.
I don't think it is free yet. It starts the 15th and runs through the 16th.

They have a bunch of games on clearance right now.
Hitman (?)
plus the ones you mentioned.
I've been waiting for this game to drop in price because the demo was decent. The FF game is a possible pick up if it's only $10.

I want the points. I don't have enough of a balance to get anything, and I think an extra 500 points might push me over the threshold.

Well, I'm watching the A2 version of 300 (the one without an SD side) and it looks GOOD. When I saw the combo DVD I went "Eh." I guess it's always possible that they messed up the labeling (I double and triple checked that I was able to see "This side up to watch HD-DVD" on the disc). It is in reality very like a comic book, and there's an ever-presence of golden tones. I like :D

The other half of the announcement pretty much says say goodbye to free backwards compatability updates. The backwards compatability promised at launch has just now turned into a $16/game charge. And instead of holding on to the discs, you can fit about 2 games downloads on your puny hard drives. We're sorry, here's a free arcade game.

Yeah, I went to two Targets today looking for that deal but they were both sold out. Why would they clearance point cards?

Or, you could read it the "glass is half full" way. Now we are paying MS to make games backwards compatible...it could lead to more frequent updates in the future

Hey guys, I need some quick help. I just upgraded to a 360 Elite and sold my old 360 Premium. I registered the system through the 360 website when I first got it. Is there any way to un-register that now or transfer it to the new owner? Any answers or feedback would be great. Thanks in advance.

When my lauch 360 died I bought a new premium and sold the repaired system. I called to ask about transferring the remaining warranty over to the new owner. I was told that it's not necessary to do anything, the warranty is tied to the system, not the owner. They told me if the new owner has problems, they should call and give the serial number. At that point they will update the owner information.
Disclaimer: English wasn't this person's first language. I *think* we were on the same page by the end of the call, but it took a bit of back and forth to explain my question.

Well... maybe not.
In the two years I've had the system it's never frozen up. Ever. Yesterday I tried playing the America's Army multiplayer demo. The first time froze the system after about a minute's worth of gameplay. Reboot, went right back into the game and tried again, and again, it froze up after one minute. Rebooted again, got the three flashing red rings.
Waited five minutes, turned it back on, and played the Arcade for an hour with no issues. So, I dunno what the problem was...

And instead of holding on to the discs, you can fit about 2 games downloads on your puny hard drives. We're sorry, here's a free arcade game. This doesn't make a lick of sense. All they're doing is offering games that are ALREADY backwards compatible on the 360 as digital downloads. If they offer up a digital download of a game that's original disc is not playable (or they remove something from the BC list that's available to download), you'd have room for argument. But considering that the games that are not yet on the BC list are generally low on the popularity scale, I can't see any of them being lucrative enough to be picked for digital distribution. I expect BC updates to remain, if not continue to slow down as the list of worthy items to add dwindles. The download service seems more like a means to get these games to people that don't want to (or can't) deal with getting physical copies.

Quick quote from Microsoft's Albert Penello (which was in the recent OXM #78): The number of people who are interested [in backward-compatibility] versus the number of people who play are very different.
I believe this to be true. I think more people talk about BC as a buzzword more than those who actually use it.

Riddick was a high want until they announced the remake which will suffice at a reasonable price.
I still want Top Spin support. I think a couple of the Prince of Persia games are still MIA. The list is small, but there are still a few out there worth playing.

There's a form to fill out that has the old serial number and new serial number. I wanted to swap my warranty because I paid for the two year "all is covered" version. I'd check the xbox website.

I sold my 360 in June, and I haven't had a chance to have the extended warranty transferred into the new owner's name. The new owner has since had to get the unit swapped due to RROD. I'm wondering if I even need to go through the trouble of finding the extended warranty paperwork or not.

The only games I still play on my XBox1 (which is at my gf's apartment) are:
- XMen Legends 1 + 2
- MVP Baseball 2005
- ESPN NFL 2k5
I could see the X-Men games possibly getting a BC update, but certainly not the latter two.
