101 Dalmatians
The same week The Walt Disney Co. announced its vault door will swing closed on five of its films, the company has announced a temporary escapee: 101 Dalmatians, which will appear in a Platinum Edition March 4, 2008. Orders are due Jan. 9, 2008.

The two-DVD set, valued at $29.99, features a new digital film restoration of 101 Dalmatians (the 1961 animated version). The DVD has been out of circulation and will be pulled once again after a limited release.

Among the bonus features is an all-new interactive “Virtual Dalmatian” game, which allows players to train and take care of their own virtual puppy. Other bonus material includes a “Puppy Profiler,” in which viewers can find out which dog they’re most like; 101 pop-up trivia facts; and a new “Cruella De Vil” music video, as performed by Disney Channel star Selena Gomez.

The set also includes deleted songs, behind-the-scenes featurettes and more.

I'll be buying this one for sure! I have almost all the Platinum Editions except for a couple but it's only because I didn't want them.

Yeah, this should be nice.

On a related note, why is the next one after that going to be Sleeping Beauty? Why not tackle some movies that haven't been a 2 disc special edition yet, like Pinocchio.

Finally. I've been holding on to the limited issue and waiting for a 2-disc treatment.

It's so sad the press release pimps the hell out of set-top games and music videos and then, oh yeah, almost forgot, uh, some deleted scenes and, like, a documentary maybe...

101 Dalmations was the first movie I ever watched in a theater. If anything, I'll pick it for for the sake of nostalgia.

Well, what did you expect with the decline of Platinum Edition features? It sounds like there won't even be a commentary.

Sleeping Beauty was announced as their first classic animation BD title and will be released along with the Platinum DVD next fall:

I may upgrade from the limited but I didn't know about Sleepy beauty hitting Blu Ray and I may hold off then. I really did like Sleeping Beauty so I'll upgrade that if the quality is worth while.

I'm looking forward it to being released as a Platinum Edition however my only hesitation is that if this PE will have any of the same colour issue that has plagued both Peter Pan and The Jungle Book.

Pinocchio is rumored for '09 and a possible re-release of Beauty and the Beast or Snow White according to those diagrams at UltimateDisney.

But I've learned my lesson, get the Platinum Editions immediately! There are usually good deals on release week.

I wonder if they'll murder this release with horizontal lines that appear sporadically as well as a new 'color treatment' that completely um, makes the film 'better'.

I will buy this like the other Platinum titles released to date, since my daughter loves this movie.

DOesn't Cruella deVille have a cigarette holder in the film? Will the folks at Disney digitally remove it (as they did with Pecos Bill's cigarette)?

I know Cinderella III is going back in the vault, but not sure on the other ones.

Also, the insert inside of Jungle Book lists Sleeping Beauty as the fall 08 Platinum Edition. I just think stuff like Pinocchio, Fantasia, The Rescuers & so on, deserve the Platinum Edition treatment, before they start re-releasing movies that are all ready 2 disc special editions.

IIRC (sorry, but I can't remember the exact titles of the sequels)...Cinderella, Cinderella 3, Aladdin, Aladdin 2, and Aladdin 3.

Sweet.

Reminds me that I am behind on some of the Platinum Editions. Mainly Peter Pan, Cinderella and Jungle Book.

Looks like they're going with 1.33:1. While there's disputes over the 1.75:1 framing on The Jungle Book and Robin Hood, original 1961 dye-transfer Technicolor prints of 101 Dalmatians were hard-matted to 1.66:1 and theaters were instructed to show the film at 1.75:1.
