View Full Version : HOT Deal - Saw Trilogy Out Early and Only $21 @ Blockbuster!

I picked up the Saw Trilogy tonight at Blockbuster. It was out early (which I hear it is at most Blockbusters). It's marked for $27.99, which I thought was an awesome price considering it's going for $38 on Amazon.

To my surprise, when I went to purchase it, it rang up as $27.99 with an automatic $6.99 instant coupon, which brought it to $21.

Already own the other sets (other than SIII DC), but if it's only going to be $22, might go ahead and pick that up since the DC could be around $18.

Official packaging, as far as I know. It said nothing about it being exclusive to them.

I know. Which is why there was the whole explanation in the initial post saying it is $27.99, but it rings up with a $6.99 instant coupon, making it $21, not $21.99, or $27.99

Not 100% positive, but I think it is a corporate store

Most stores are putting it out as a mistake. Myself, working at one when we assembled the display, deciced to find out if it was out yet, and it says 10/23 in the system. So it IS a mistake, and likely going to be corrected soon, so if you want this I'd call your local store first, as I imagine district mamnagers will be emailing people telling them to take them down soon.

Haven't been to Blockbuster in forever, but might have to head over to the local one when I get a break at work today and see what they have. If they don't have that, then maybe some decent PPV titles that might be worth picking up.

YMMV, but I just stopped at my local Blockbuster to find the set stickered for $19.99. The guy rang it up and said it must be mispriced (computer said $27.99), but honored the sticker. Then, the instant $6.99 coupon came up, and he honored that too.

I asked the clerk and he went to the back room and pulled out a box with the display and the DVDs and he proceeded to assemble the display. I wonder if he'll realize he did it early. I got the $6.99 discount but drats- no $19.99 sticker.

God, Part II
10-16-07, 04:36 PM
I'm rather confused here, especially after FunkDaddy J's experience. I'm very much interested in this deal, but I've gone to two Blockbusters now and neither one had any knowledge of this instant coupon. I had both of them price-check the trilogy in their systems and both said it was a hard $27.99. Has a way been determined to track which Blockbusters will be honoring this $21.99 price point? If there a system difference between what will come up for a price check versus an actual sale? Does one have to wait a few moments after the "ring up" before the discount appears (which FunkDaddy J's statement seems to indicate, by mentioning that the discount apparently appeared only after the associate manually discounted the set for the sticker confusion)? I'm gonna be pissed if I have to let a deal this good pass...

FunkDaddy J
10-16-07, 04:45 PM
The $6.99 discount did appear very late in the transaction. At first, he said, "Total is $21.xx." Then, "Oh, wait, there's a discount on this."

Yeah I went to my local Blockbuster this morning and they had a huge Saw display with a bunch of copies of SAW 1,2,3 and the trilogy box set. So I grabbed a trilogy box set and it was marked $27.99. The lady rang it up and told me the total was $29.xx with tax. I was just about to ask if there was a 6.99 discount when it finally showed up on the screen and she said "oh wait your total comes to $22.26" with tax. So the discounted appeared late in my transaction as well. But this is a really good deal, $22.26 with tax for all 3 Unrated movies a week early.

Success! I went back this morning to the first store I'd price-checked with yesterday, rolled the dice and tried an actual sale transaction out. The associate rang up the boxed set and said, "That'll be $30.xx." then, as I was delaying the transaction by acting like I was having trouble getting my wallet out of my back pocket, he said, "Uh, scratch that--it will actually be $22.xx." Wickedness!!! Not sure what I would have said or done if the instant coupon had never appeared, he he...

I've seen quite a few new releases at Blockbuster for sale... They were expensive ($20+ for a regular release), but they do sell new DVDs.

sinizine
10-17-07, 06:44 PM
Blockbuster got a new CEO recently. If anything, there's going to be MORE of a focus on selling retail DVDs than ever before under current plans. They're going to try and high-end the place. Use the newly acquired Movielink to install kiosks that'll let people download at the store. Coffee-bar (which I dread). My store just got a bunch of framed artwork that's in the 30-40 dollar range.

Anyway, the coupon late in the transaction is not a new thing. In the BB system, auto-coupons aren't applied until the transaction is totalled. Most employees aren't aware of it because it's technically not out yet. I'd bet new of the sale will be in next weeks info.

Mister Peepers

All the Blockbusters I've been to sell DVDs (for more than your local Best Buy/Circuit City but slightly less than the overpriced Borders/Barnes & Noble), though what they're big on selling are obviously the used titles.

Lionsgate is the most notorious studio for producing exclusive bonus DVDs (hell, The Descent almost killed me with three across Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Circuit City), but the fact that Saw III is basically a catalog title at this point (new edit notwithstanding), I'd say it's unlikely. However, it still remains possible so I recommend doing what I did--take advantage of Blockbuster's offer on the Trilogy set immediately, in case it's an error that they'll soon catch (which surely it must be--I mean, $21 for a set that retails for $49.98 can't be intentional, right?), and leave it sealed until next Tuesday rolls around. Then, if no retailers offer any better exclusives for Saw III alone, open it and enjoy. If they do offer a better exclusive, just return the Trilogy set to Blockbuster and you're no worse for wear. You know you'll be kicking yourself if this deal is temporary and you miss out on it.

Yeah, Mr. Peepers already said, but you'll probably just have to ask. I was hoping some people would just know from past experiences whether their stores were corporate or franchise. The reason I know all 3 in my area are franchises is because I've tried to get some Blockbuster exclusives before and the franchise stores never seem to get them, like the Death Proof and Planet Terror posters.

Yes, franchise stores tend to be operated differently and may not have exclusives as well. The three Blockbusters in my area (Bend, OR) are all owned by the same person. I've struck out at two of the three locations so far looking for the Saw Trilogy, but wasn't surprised.

Thanks Sabrett for the find. I just got back from the Palo Alto, California, BlockBusters at 3990 El Camino Real and asked for the Trilogy since I could
not find it. She showed me the display up with the Trilogy as well as single editions of Saw. The clerk rang it up for me and told me that it would be $38.00, and I just smiled and waited. The cash register then began to magically discount first 10.00, then the 6, then other amounts and finally settled down with $19.47 after tax. The clerks eyes bugged out of her head and she said "that's a really good deal." I just smiled that DVD Talk secret smile and walked out with my swag. Something is definitely not working right with the computer registers at BlockBusters. They had 4 more copies on display as of 2 pm today. So go for it and thanks again for the tip.

If the individual copies are going to be sold for $6.99, that would be a super deal for those of you trying to complete your collection.

Hit two Blockbusters. First one had the display in behind the counter and I asked if I could get one of the box sets. She went to get one but the manager said they couldn't sell them til Tuesday the 23. So I left and headed to the next one right down the street. Walked right in and sure enough the display was up right when I walked in along with all the directors cuts for all the Saw films for $6.99. Got the box set, marked $27.99, it rang up $37.99. Clerk said oh thats wrong, called the manager, overrode the price down to $27.99, then the $6.99 rebate came up. He looked and said damm thats a good deal would you go and get one off the display for me. So the deal is still working guys, just you may have to hunt for it. And yes the Saw 3 directors cut was marked $6.99.

Did you happen to have 10 dollars in store credit on your account?

No, I did not have any credit with Block Buster. I did not show my BlockBuster card for this deal, nor was I asked to. I noted from other posts as well that the Trilogy is originally priced anywhere between 34.98 to 38.98 and they are offering a 10 dollar discount to promote it for 28.98 with an additional secret 6 dollar coupon that most clerks are suprised to see pop up as well. I have noted that there appears to be a lot of price confusion with this set at the stores as well as release day confusion. My Palo Alto store had no signs or prices on the sets, but it rang up as $34.98 minus the standard 10 dollars off for this sale period, plus an extra 6 dollars off that has most of us all excited for a walk out the door price after tax of 19.47

Okay, on the our box in the back it says release date Friday 10/19. Also, I took one of our box sets up and scanned it to a non member account. It rang up 37.99 then the 6.99 discount popped up. I don't know where you guys are finding the 21.99 but my store is sadly not going to be one of them.... Anyone want to pick one up for me :D

Yes, they are the second release 2-disc sets including the forthcoming Director's cut of Saw III.
Thanks, since these have already and will be in the $5 bins, I think I'll wait then.

If it had something exclusive to this trilogy, I might have picked it up.

Well i just got mine tonight it rang up at 34.99 then took 6.00 off so it came to 27.99 plus tax so 30.52. Looks like i Missed out on the deal or maybe i will try another blockbuster

AG, try another Blockbuster! - the Blockbuster store that is located in the BJ's plaza in Tonawanda, NY has it for $27.99 before tax/discount so with the discount its $21.99 before tax. (They have a stand set up right where you enter with the SAW 3-pack plus SAW III 2 Disc Directors Cut-that is being sold for $6.99.) So there you can save $6-$7!

Thanks for the heads-up.

I went to my local BBV this morning and I was able to score a copy. They didn't have any on the shelves, but they grabbed a copy out of the back for me.

And to the previous poster, the only copies of Saw I've personally seen in the $5 bin were the rated single-disc edition.

I bough Saw I 2 Disc Uncut for $3.99 and just picked up Saw II (first release) for $4, but if I could have got it for $21 I would have.

I just saw the Future Shop add and they are calling it an 'exclusive', they are asking $37 for it, too rich for my blood.

target had the 2-disc saw ii on sale for like 7.50 a few weeks ago. and i recall seeing the saw 2-disc for like 6.99 during a sale at best buy a while back i believe. never seen either in a $5 bin, but they have been going for pretty cheap if you don't mind waiting. you don't get that cool packaging though.

One BB (out of 4) near me had the Saw display up. Unfortunately, the individual Saws were the one disc versions and they were priced at $7.99.

The futureshop one looks identical to this one when you take the plastic shell off. It's a slip case with the mask sticking out

I was abe to get in on the deal at one of the Blockbusters in Colorado Springs. The stickers on the Trilogy box were for 27.99, but rang up for 34.99. The cashier started getting frustrated that there was a price difference, and called his manager over to let him know that all of the Saw Trilogy boxes would have to be restickered with the 34.99 price tag.

I was able to get the set for 20.06 after the instant coupon and a 10 dollar credit since there was a price difference between the sticker and computer. As I was leaving the cashier was already restickering the box sets, so if you want to get in on the lower price, I would definitley check out your local Blockbuster soon.

my store, stickered at 34.99 rings up 27.99 + instant coupon = 21.99.

we took them off the display because the scan says the release date is 10-23

I use "$5 bin" as a generic term; and as you see from the above posters, the sets have been $4 to $7.50 on sale at various times or even currently.

And I think I used the words "will be" in my initial post, as the third double disc hasn't been on sale yet afaik.

But these films are definitely bargain price fodder, and we will continue to see them really cheap.

Not attacking the quality, I own them, just saying that $21 for all three is nothing to get too excited about.

My BB's was sticked $27.99, but scanned at $34.99. Then when the coupon was applied went back down to the $27.99. Guy wouldn't budge for me. Oh well.

Get another cashier or even a manager. If the price says $27.99, then it should be sold at that price, then the coupon applied.

Completely unacceptable. I would never tolerate that from the Blockbuster drone. Ask to speak to the manager. At worst, they should honor the sticker price of $27.99, then deduct the coupon.

It's their mistake that it is stickered less than their system states it should be priced at.

Well, I got curious, and my local BB store rang them up as $34.99 as well. The lady said..."Hmm...the price changed." She then started to remove the $27.99 stickers from the other sets. There was no $6 coupon either, so I walked away. I'll get it later. $27.99 is a tad high for me right now anyway, and at $34.99, there's no way.

I'm not sure if this was an error, and the sets will be $34.99 with a $6 coupon, but they need to get their pricing correct. Especially since the $27.99 stickers were already created and on the sets.

The BB manager rang me up yesterday. It was marked at 27.99, rang up at 34.99 but she pressed the total key quickly and it took the price down to 27.99 after the $7 instant discount.

I didn't even have time to have her bring it down to 27.99 first because she totaled it so quickly. She was the store manager too so I couldn't have had her bring it down. Oh well.

It's people with your mentality that make me hate my job. Why is it people get snobby and think they're better than store clerks?

what the hell are you talking about? how much was it stickered for? 27.99? how much did he get it for 27.99 !!!!

tell me what blockbuster owes him?

I had a great experience here in okc with a store manager. rang up 27.99. i mentioned i saw on a website that this was ringing up many places for 20.99 with an automatic 7 dollar coupon but no coupon was ringing up for me. he said no problem, i will ring it up for you on my account and take off 7 bucks...

The copies at the store that I rewnt from had no sticker price on them. They rang up at 34.99 minus the 6 dollar discount. Still a bit much for me so I passed. I am waiting to get the first 2 plus the director's cut on Blu-Ray on the cheap since I already own an incarnation of each flick on SD. Kind of growing tired of shit just piling up around my house.

I'm not speaking for tofferman, but where I am, store clerks in Blockbuster, Target, and CC are bitter nasty people. When they hand me my change, I say thank you and they do everything short of sneer at me. The Best Buy workers are usually pretty pleasant, but it depends on the time of day I go.
But I know in my neck of the woods, it's the clerks that make me hate going to the stores.

I know, we're cool. I just know I got some eyerolls so figured I should egg on the possible fun debate. I love that word "silly". It always makes me think of this line:

"On second thought, let's not go to Camelot. It's a silly place...."

Back on topic, I wish BB had this on sale for $22 or less. Even though I only need the third, and expect it to be cheap soon, I'd pay up to $22 to get the cool packaging and the free ticket to 4.

I stopped by 2 locations. They both had the sets labeled for 27.99, but the lines were too long so I didn't see how much they rang up. I mainly wanted the Director's Cut for 6.99, like reported earlier in this thread. But neither of my stores had them. The display was full of the earlier single disc versions of each movie. One store had them for 7.99, while the other wanted 9.99. No thanks!

I'm a shift lead at my store and I'm always nice to customers unless their attitude demands differently.

I reread our communications update and it said they are 34.99 BUT due to distributer discounts would total at 27.99 so that's what we stickered them as. With my employee discount I got mine for 22.80
