View Full Version : (DEAD) CC blu-ray glitch

Hey guys, for all you blu ray owners. CC has a BOGO free deal for their 24.99 and 29.99 blu-rays that is not advertised. In store, they are Disney/BVHV and Sony titles listed. But I found a glitch, all titles in this price range are BOGO for all studios (except FOX titles). They all just rung out BOGO with no hassles or anything, no speaking to the supervisor or anything. So I say take advantage of this until they discover their mistake (probably picked cleaned before they realize it)!!! i know we all dislike CC but with deals this good, o well. Keep it low key guys, just buy w/o bringing too much attention.

Catalog FOX titles ar 34.99 do not work, the 29.99 ones seem to work.

i think we're relatively low key. more so than fat wallet or something. i know that when CC or BB deals are posted on here and the forum swarms, my CC/BB still has the relevant dvds. it's a big world.

anyway, thanks OP. i'll check er out.

Picked up Stranger than Fiction & Pursuit of Happyness this morning, but as the day went on I decided to go back and try other Sony titles. No Problem at all. I picked up Surfs Up and Reign Over Me for $30. Hopefully this is still going on on Tuesday when the Invisible comes out.

I've read on the highdefdigest forums that it works for HD-DVDs too. Everything that's a $29.99 title.

I'll have to stop by tomorrow.

I think the reason why this won't work on the Fox titles is because they are priced at $39.99. Damn you Fox!

So ANY HD/BD priced at $25 or $30? Might be worth checking out.

Are the prices online the same as the prices in store?

I hope this is true for HD-DVD. I would LOVE the Transformers and anything else for free.

10-15-07, 10:49 AM
so CC has been open now on the East Coast for about an hour, can anyone still confirm that all $25-$30 movies are b1g1f?

John Galt
10-15-07, 12:01 PM
YES! Just got back from CC and they were still B1G1. I picked up:
The Patriot BD $12.49
We Are Marshall BD $15.00
Alpha Dog HD $15.00
Shooter HD $15.00

I also purchased Lethal Weapon 2 BD and Saw III BD but for some reason they still rang up regular price. I don't know if the cashier rejected the package discount for those two or what but I'm just going to return them later.

Anyone know if this deal is working in San Diego stores?

John Galt
10-15-07, 12:24 PM
I worked there from 2000-2003 and it was my personal experience that when glitches like these occurred they were system wide and would not be corrected until the end of the business day when they sent out their daily price update to the stores. I remember one time that they had a really big one where they actually interrupted business for about 15 minutes so they could send out the update. They've changed their POS systems since then though so this could have changed.

Do you have to buy 2 at a time, or can you put 6/8/10 whatever in one transaction?

Any luck in VA?

I just got back from a CC is St. Louis area and HD DVDs are indeed part of the deal. They actually ring up as half price. I purchased two and I am pretty sure you can buy just one if you want at half price. As soon as the first disc rang up a BD promo header came up on the register and the first disc rang up at 12.50. SWEET!

All titles, you're not restricted to buying a sony or disney title first, you just have to get matching prices. Also, I think the FOX titles are now included (I've heard_ but I havent tried it myself yet. The deal is still going on, get em while you can guys. Happy hunting.

Fox titles do work with this deal. Just got Robocop BD, 28 Days Later BD, Reservoir Dogs BD and 12 Monkeys HD for $55.

Three of those were priced $29.99, so I'm not sure if it works for titles priced higher.

WOW! I just got back from a CC in nashville... picked up Basic Instinct, Memento, Hitch Hikers Guide to Galaxy, Fugitive, Terminator, Terminator 2, Total Recall, Surf's Up, Scanner Darkly, Scooby Doo, Corpse Bride, Queen, Vacancy, Reservoir Dogs, Superman 2, and Superman Returns! I'm thrilled! pretty much got every title they had in stock that I didn't already have and wanted... now already planning to hit another location tonight on the way home from work! Thanks big time to the original poster of this one! (I knew about the sale with the specified titles because I got a few of those yesterday, but never dreamed to try titles not on the list!)

I noticed you're in OC, which one did you go to? My brother went to the Buena Park store and the manager overrode the deal so he had to pay full price. He will return it later.

I went to the Huntington Beach store and it went through! I got 4 HD titles: MI: 3, Shooter, Dawn of the Dead and Perfect Storm for a total of $59.22. 2 were $29.99 and the other 2 were $24.99.

I'm thinking both of your HD's came out at a regular price because they were $34.99. Day After Tomorrow didn't work because you need to buy 2 to get the discount "Buy one get one free".

I went to the one in Laguna Hills, CA. That's what I was thinking as well, now reading these recent posts that one of them was $34.99 (I just saw the total). I tried just the 1 Blu-Ray because that was the only one that I wanted and was hoping that it might come out half price by itself. Oh well, it was worth a try.

If mixing DVD's with different prices, do we need to split up the order to get the best savings? Meaning, if you buy two 29.99 titles and two 24.99 titles, will it make both of the 24.99 titles the freebies (thus meaning you should purchase the 24.99 and 29.99 titles separates)?

Just FYI - I don't believe the Blu-ray titles are a glitch. My local CC has an inkjet-printed sign above the Blu-ray rack listing the $24.99 and $29.99 titles that are BOGO. although it wasn't advertised in the circular, it appears to be a valid, week-long sale.

Just got back a few minutes ago from Circuit City with Casino Royale (last one - whew!) and The Departed for $14.99 each. Got worried for a minute when they originally showed up on the screen at $29.99 each but then they reduced at the total.

Thanks to all of the OPs in all of these Blu-Ray sales threads. Between Best Buy, Circuit City and Frys, I ended up getting 8 Blu-Ray discs for $105. Kick ASS!!!

Actually I'm pretty sure it is a glitch. I saw that same list and it didn't have one of the titles I purchased (Day After Tomorrow). Just as long as both discs are $29.99 or below, you're good to go.

Confirmed in Fremont and Union City CA. Picked up 22 Blu-ray and HD DVDs - mix and match - all came up 50% off on the receipt. Only tried titles $29.99 and 24.99. No problems. I could actually see the discount racking up on the computer as the cashier rang them up.

Thanks about the heads up on the HD DVD's working. In Jackson, MS I got Mission Impossible, Mummy, Mummy Returns and Unforgiven. All were $24.99 titles. As noted in a previous post they ring up full price until they scan the second one. So I wound up with 4 HD DVD's for $53.46 with tax. My stores selection was a bit thin or I would have purchased more.

I have about ten HD discs, 4 blu-ray, no player or HD TV. Well, an unopened player, and I'm going to get that HD TV next weekend hopefully.

It fits, since I bought several DVDs before I had a player as well.

Here's the scoop guys, at least for HD-DVD. This is NOT an automatic thing, and COULD be done at any store. I tried buying 6 HD-DVD's, but they all rang up full price. I told him they were B1G1F. He voided the order and re-rang them, and this time input "02" when a box of options came up. The "02" is what activates the promotion. I then went to another CC and also watched them enter "02" to activate the promotion. If they enter "01" which was done originally, they stay full price. So it is YMMV to get the cashiers to enter the promotion code, but this deal should be valid at every CC store if they do...

To clear up other questions from earlier in the thread, one does not ring up full price and the other zero. They each ring up for half off, as long as you purchase two. And the prices do not need to be the same. I bought a 24.99 title with a 29.99 title, and paid 15.00 and 12.50.

My local CC didn't have a wide selection, though I didn't get the impression that it was picked over - couldn't believe they didn't have FF2 on Blu-Ray, though I wasn't too suprised, since they never got Entourage Season 3 Part 2. Picked up Corpse Bride HD, Casino Royale BR, Dawn of the Dead HD, Blood Diamond HD, Smokin Aces HD and Dukes of Hazzard HD for $85.xx. I have all of them in SD, but for the price and based on reviews, they seemed worthy of the upgrade (except DoH, I may return that one).

VA Center Commons. Selection was pretty good in both BR and HD-DVD.

Several titles I was looking for didn't exist but there was still about 3 full racks of each format to choose from.

I would have gotten more but I had already spent $75 on BRs at Amazon today and $70 on BRs through frys.com on Friday.

I really crossing my fingers for Transformers and something else tomorrow.

STAY AWAY from the Gaskins store...it is being remodeled and doesn't have jack squat...seriously, you could count the number of HD titles they have on one hand, I don't even know why they are open....

I went today to Short Pump, VA Center Commons, and Chesterfield to get all of the HD-DVDs I wanted:
Billy Madison
Breakfast Club
Casablanca
Casino
Coming To America
End Of Days
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Half Baked
Happy Gilmore
Hulk
Mission Impossible
MI:2
Red Dragon
Scooby Doo

Even rebought Bourne Identity and Blades Of Glory to return them to Target since half price was much much better than their $5 off coupon that past month or two....

Also got a few Blus:
Basic Instinct
Casino Royale
Open Season
Wild Things

I rebought Underworld and Halloween to return to Walmart (obviously 12.50 apiece beats the $20 each I had paid there just a week or two ago, gotta save those receipts people....)

Now to take all the standard def DVDs I'm upgrading from to Moviestop and do the 4 for $20 trade in and reserve all the high def titles for the rest of this year!

I don't think ALL BDs are supposed to be part of the B1G1. I think it's supposed to be the same ones that are on sale at BB, Amazon, etc. The Fox titles should definitely not be included in this sale, but they're coming up B1G1.

Worked fine at the new CC store in Bolingbrook, IL. Got Dawn of the Dead and Shooter on HD and The Departed, 300, Troy and the Patriot on BD. Troy was marked $29.99 but rang up $24.99 before the half-off. Scan of receipt is attached so maybe once this deal is dead PM to Best Buy possibilities may exist. Many thanks to OP!!

Did not work at Tyson's Corner East CC. They looked it up in the computer and found that it is only good at certain stores.

The more i think about this, I am glad that I didn't get my 20 discs.

We've all been fooled into thinking that HD discs are supposed to be higher priced and that $15 is a great bargain.

Nope, I'm sticking with the $5 rule. The prices will come down.

[Seth Rogen] The store in Eatontown, NJ can gargle my balls. [/Seth Rogen]
Like I said earlier in the thread, they need to enter "02" when the promotion box pops up. The prices will NOT automatically come up B1G1F. At the 2nd store I went to, I just told them right away "these should be B1G1F", then I watched them enter the "02" promotion code. If you don't say anything, your odds are worse. Just tell them, so when the promotion box comes up they are more likely to choose the right option (there are only 2 options--"01" for regular price, or "02" for promotion price). I've witnessed this at 2 stores, so I'm sure that's how it works everywhere...

I see what you're saying, but that may be a long time from now. I'm happy with paying $12.50 or $15 for HD titles, and I have seriously curbed my purchase of SD movies. I really only want HD-DVD now. It's better to pay a little more now and really enjoy the movies in my home theater, than to buy SD now for $5 and upgrade to the HD version in a few years for $5 (IF that ever happens). CH might never make HD part of the enrollment or B1G1 deals. Right now, I don't want to wait. I'm not going totally crazy. I bought 8 titles yesterday, and I'm satisfied (well, I'll try for Transformers today). It's just too good of a deal to pass up on...

I see your logic, but still plan to wait for better bargains. To me, the difference between HD and upconverted SD is not worth even $5 per title. But that is because I buy so many titles and it the $ difference really adds up. If I was a more minimalist collector, I could see going ahead w/ HD.

And btw, HD is included in the B1G1 (or B2G3) deals at CH. So far, all my HD purchases have been either the freebies from the amazon deal and get 5 free rebates, sub $10 deals, or part of B1G1 at CH.

I made an online purchase yesterday to fulfill my commitment and it wouldn't let me pick an HD DVD as the free one.CH won't let you take an HD title as the freebie. You also cannot take it as an enrollment nor apply Fun Cash to it. If you still purchase the occasional SD title(such as Death Proof), then you can get an HD title and an SD title for around $22 shipped.

I'm heading out to CC right now in hopes of Transformers and another HD/BR title. Wish me luck! :fc:

I meant you can't take an HD-DVD as the free title, nor as an enrollment title. I hope we can in the future, but that's a deal killer for me. I don't want to buy any more SD, except for the titles only available on Blu Ray that I want. This is a great deal overall but it can be frustrating. I have yet to be denied anywhere and all the clerks who have checked me out have just punched through the whole thing and given me the discount.

As mentioned the 2 keys to this deal are

1. All titles must be $29.99 or less .. nothing over unless you get lucky.

2. Let everything ring up and let them get to the end (ie just before you pay) and check the total. It should be about 1/2 of what the titles added up to be from their stickers. If not then say something otherwise just let it.

At my store the cashier simply had to ring them up and answer yes to the discount question on the screen. It immediately came up after ALL titles were scanned and they went to the payment screen. Before that NOTHING comes up about a discount.

Relax and be patient and it will work. There is no need to push it.

I for one am very happy with all the deals that have come up recently -- both HD-DVD and BR. I only wish this would happen again in mid-late November to capture some of those nice BR releases coming up. Oh well it matters not as this week has bankrupted me anyway.

Enjoy your movies!!

I went a little crazy and had to stop myself from buying too much. My purchases were all HD-DVDs.

Of the $30 titles I got An American Werewolf In London (why the heck is this title still $30?) & Blades Of Glory. I was going to get Transformers but had already bought it online for $20 and didn't want to deal with the return hassle.

Of the $25 titles I got Wolf Creek, Feast, The 40-Year-Old Virgin Unrated, Born On the Fourth of July, Serenity, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Casino & Goodfellas.

I was sad to see no copies of Superman The Motion Picture and Superman Returns was still priced at $35. :(

Awesome deal & thanks to the original poster!

Another guy was there buying a bunch as well and asked me if I heard it thru the AVS forums. I told him Dvdtalk but the word is definitely getting out.

It has to be a glitch to include the HD-DVDs because when the clerk was ringing me up, it a message kept popping up BlueRay Buy 1 Get 1 Free.

I guess none of the CC got this movie in HD (and I'm guessing Blu-Ray). I was going to grab it along with Transformers. I did grab Transformers and Troy (Director's Cut) for 25 plus tax out the door. That's just a bit more than what some people are paying for the 2-disc SD version.

Thanks for the tip on Lives of Others, I may have to hit that.

Also, CC has the worst customer service of all time. I called a store (Lewisville) and they wouldnt even check to see if they had The Warriors for me. Then, I went in the store and snuck my way into one of the computer pos systems and four seconds later had an inventory search menu. I checked a good ten different titles, non of which were in stock.

Oddly enough, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which was $29 at the first store (Denton)was marked $34 here, guess I got lucky on that one.

I talked to a girl at a different location (Irving Mall), she told me that CC's in this region (North TX) got their shipments on Wed. mornings so to try for the stuff I wanted again tomorrow. Hopefully the sale will still be going on.

Southlake had a good selection that didnt look picked over.

If anyone is interested in picking up The Reaping on Blu-Ray in exchange for something they couldn't find in their store, let me know. My circuit city didnt have it the reaping. Maybe my store will have one you couldn't find. I am making another trip in the morning so let me know through pm. I'll be on for a little while.

I can probably do 2 for 2 or so on as well if it would help make it more worth it for shipping reasons.

Just let me know which ones your looking for and I'll tell ya if I can get it. I spent enough time in there today to know what they have lol

I can also pick up HD,including Transformers in return if thats what your looking for.

Anyone here in Orange County, CA there is a new store at Foothill Ranch. Pretty good HD-DVD/Blu-Ray selection, especially compared to the other CC stores I went to. I was able to snag Rocky Balboa, Casino Royale, The Good Shephard and FF2.

Thanks GCS and WMAangel! I totally forgot there was a CC by VA Center Commons, I may try there too. It's about time the Gaskins store got a remodel job. That store has been horrible since I moved to Richmond.

Also, WMAangel.....do you know if the second Movie Stop on Midlothian Tpk is open yet? I keep forgetting to ask the people at the Harbour Pointe store.

Do not know yet about the Movie Stop, where on Midlo Trnpk is this new one going to be? I went to the Hull Street one last night to pick up my Transformers HD-DVD since they were doing the special midnight sale thing....I had pre-ordered it there with the new release trade in deal.....wish I had known about this CC sale before I pre-ordered it from them, I'd much rather have paid $15!

I might have to try and hit up the CC at Southpark in Colonial Heights just to see if they might possibly have anything that I haven't been able to find at the other locations (specifically Accepted on HD and The Fly on BD)...can't try and call any of their stores beforehand, the CC employees always seem so clueless....

Hey guys, wow when i started this thread I had no idea it would get this many views/responses!!! I'm glad everyone was able to take advantage of this great deal (probably the best one we'll ever get this year)!! I myself ended up getting about 20+ BDs and am pretty much broke. My two local stores had NONE of those. I was very disappointed in the selection. I bought Transformers and Blood Diamond today, but I have no plans to buy anything else. I had a list of 20 HD titles I would have bought, and they had none of them. Their selection sucks...

This works at ANY store you can get a cashier to enter "02" to activate the promotion when they ring em up. It is YMMV by cashier, not by store... I'm sure every store has a cashier that would do it. First attempt for me was a no-go. Tried Transformers + Knocked Up, then Transformers + Day After Tomorrow at CS and was told it wouldn't work. Asked them to punch "option 2", she said that would make it work, but it's an override and she'd get into trouble. They got the list of honored titles and gave me a copy. I said thanks. Then I picked up one of those titles, "Bridge to Terabethia", and kept the Transformers HD-DVD (feigning partial ignorance), went to a check out line and THAT worked. Thanks, OP.

Since I was checking out 6-8 each time, I simply said "I think some of those are part of that Blu Ray promotion." The first transaction was kind of awkward, he told me a total of $162, I asked him if he could check to see if any of my purchases were part of the promotion (thinking he would hit something on the checkout) instead he got the list, but I think he finally hit something else because after he got the list (none of them were on it) It came back $80 something instead. Second transaction with a different cashier simply mentioning the promotion got me the discount

A couple of people on AVS have reported no luck today (with no-one reporting success yet), so I fear this may have been corrected nationally overnight. That would suck as I was planning another run today for everything I forgot to grab yesterday. If dead though, this was fun while it lasted.

I think if you get extremely lucky and have a person ring you up that has no idea what they are doing you may have a shot at getting this deal. I think officially it is not dead in their system, it is that they were told not to ring anybody up for this sale unless they have the titles that apply.

HappyRabbit
10-18-07, 06:31 PM
How would they ring it up though? when I picked some up on tuesday they rang up on sale by themselves. I tried this wednesday and they rang up full price and the cashier called someone else over and they took them back to the csc and someone told them about the list. I believe most stores now printed the list out because of the glitch. I don't think putting in the 02 code would even allow them to go through as BOGO.

That is the question. Did they actually fix it in their system? I don't think they did. Could be wrong though.

I think the glitch was fixed at my stores. On Monday/Tuesday when the discs were scanned there was an option that forced the cashier to press "02" to make these discs BOGO or press "01" for full price. When I returned on Wednesday the option to press "01" or "02" was gone. The cashier is a friend of mine and she said the system had changed as of Wednesday morning as she could no longer "force" the BOGO unless the discs were qualifying Disney/Buena Vista titles.

DVD Polizei
10-18-07, 09:41 PM
This is EXTREMELY YMMV.

I spent an hour at a CC in the Portland, OR area, and most of the CSR's said "it's only on BD" but then a more intelligent gal said, "No, I just rang the HD DVDs up a few days ago on Tuesday." Anyway, after going back and forth with the manager, and the nice girl was honest and said, "Well, maybe it was over..." I got the B1G1. I grabbed 8 HD DVDs but it was looked through. Managed to get Transformers at least in the bunch.

This is NOT in their system. The deal is very YMMV, and you have to luck out that the person working the day you're in there, has done it before.

I would imagine it was just for the Tuesday or up until Tuesday.

I almost think it was an error, and they included both HD formats, because I asked if this was still valid until this Sunday, I got an affirmative "NO". I only got the HD DVDs I did because for one, the nice girl working remembered doing it before and said as much (which maybe she shouldn't have but then they began to honor it at that point), two, the manager said go ahead she was adamant the discount was valid--but then at the POS computer screen, it said different.

I actually paid $12.99 for $24.99 titles because the person doing the discount didn't calculate 50% off properly. And I wasn't going to bitch over a $4.00 difference.

My guess is, it's over. I mean, I was rather late and I just happened to get curious passing a CC today, and it was luck that the girl working knew what I was talking about. She won't do it again, because I'm pretty sure she now realized it didn't come up in the system, and whatever the "sale" was, is over.

Borders gives me absolutley no problems, never asks for ID and you can use the gift card at Amazon(although Borders is going to sever their tie with Amazon in 2008 and sell through their own site). Since Christmas is just around the corner, I would wait until then to do a receiptless return.

By the way, my list was not meant to be by order of preferance. I try to avoid Ebay as best as possible. But if you have no local stores to utilize, then it is a viable option...

Went in there yesterday after work knowing that the b1g1 sale might be over and select titles only. Checked out the blu-ray section for a list but nothing. Asked a girl stocking dvds if they still had the b1g1 sale on blu rays goin on, she said yeah. Then I asked if it was select titles she said no it was anything 29.99 or under, so I said sweet. Picked up 4 movies, 3 for 29.99 and 1 for 24.99. Went to the register and they rang up full price, told her that the lady had told me they were b1g1. She called her over and she said yeah they should be b1g1. The register lady and another lady who worked there both said that they thought there was a list to go off of, but the lady that was stocking the dvds said no it's for all 29.99 and under, apparently the previous day she had rung up a few people and had to put the b1g1 sale on those, not sure exactly. But the register lady said ok and manually overrode the prices to be half off. She might've messed up as I got 2 movies for 12.50 and 2 movies for 15.00. So yeah I got super super lucky and am proud of it.

Every year for as long as I can remember (including last year), you can return up to $100 worth of merchandise after Christmas for credit. You need a DL or state ID, and you can't make more then 3 returns. They usually give you one full month, so you'd have until approx. Jan. 25.
