DVD Talk review of 'Grindhouse Presents, Planet Terror - Extended and Unrated'
I read Ian Jane's DVD review of Grindhouse Presents, Planet Terror - Extended and Unrated at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=30926 and...
Terrific review, as usual. Question, though: For the Audience Reaction Track, does it cover the whole movie, or are there gaps during the newly added footage? Just curious if some lucky group got to see the extended version on the big screen.

Another question, is the film shown in its OAR of 2.35:1 as stated in the review or has it been reformatted to 1.78:1 as stated in the Grindhouse thread.

It's 1.78.1, not 2.35.1. I altered the review this morning as soon as I caught the mistake. That said, the framing looks fine. If you dug the film, I can't see the AR being a deal breaker as it looks like basically what RR has done is just open up the frame on the top and bottom and trim a bit on the sides.
I'll see if I can't post some screen caps after work tonight to compare the 2.35.1 frame in the trailer to the 1.78.1 frame on the feature. Personally, I figure if RR was okay with it, there's no reason to get uptight as it's not like a lot of info is missing from the picture.
As far as the audience track goes, I didn't notice any seriously glaring drop outs but the added footage is just a bit here and a bit there, it's not like in Death Proof where there's a big added lapdance or a big new black and white scene put in.

I watched this a few nights ago and I really enjoyed it. For those who saw it in the cinemas, is this cut vastly different?

I imagine what happened here was Rodriguez shot it flat on digital video but protected for the 2.35:1 frame in order to match up with Tarantino's 2.35:1 footage for Death Proof. Then he had it opened up for this release. When they release the film proper as it was in theaters it should be 2.35:1 again.

I haven't watched the DVD yet. I purchased it the day of it's release. However, I did check out the DVD. It is without a doubt in a 1:85:1 or 1:78:1 framing. Still looked awesome though. Personally, while 2:35:1 offers a superior visual feast I didn't mind the absence of black bars on my new 27" HDTV.
