DVD Talk review of 'Captain & Tennille: The Christmas Show'

I read Nick Lyons's DVD review of Captain & Tennille: The Christmas Show at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=30859 and...

...no review has ever encouraged me to buy something more strongly! The despair and disgust of the review is glorious, and this DVD is now a must have. I've just preordered it from Amazon. Thanks!

Ha! I just received my copy today from Amazon. Daryl Dragon looks like Ted Bundy on the cover. I'll keep you informed, Nick, on my adventure with this dvd.

Love,

I just know if I bought this it'd probably destroy all sorts of cherished childhood memories. Used to love these guys back when I was a nerdy 15 yr old.

I've watched the Christmas Show. So...

Was Daryl Dragon a charisma void in the other Captain and Tennille shows? He's got a very creepy presence about him, and I do see a lot of Ted Bundy in his demeanor. Why would such a joyful, maternal, and almost beautiful woman like Toni Tennille marry him? And cuddle him? Maybe he was just nervous in front of cameras.

So for a Christmas special, this wasn't very Christmasy. Everything was blue, pink and purple, and only one third of the songs were holiday-related. The sets weren't even decorated for Christmas. And the skits! A guy having a nicotine fit on an airplane! Merry Christmas! Tom Bosley got you a present and Don Knotts didn't, and he won't stop talking about it! Yay!

It never stopped being fun, but it was a bad Christmas special. Toni Tennille had presence and star power, her husband didn't. But I enjoyed it as a slice of the 70's.

Thanks, Nick!

Well I think we mostly have the network to blame for foisting all the lame crap on their shows. But yeah, he was traditionally more of a technical, behind the scenes kind of guy. A very talented and a sweet guy, but like you suggested, not that comfortable in the spotlight.
