Friday Nght Lights "Last Days of Summer"-Season Premiere 10/5/07
As if we don't have enough FNL threads already, its time for the season premiere. I became a fan after watching the dvds, so I will tune in.

So I have a Directv DVR with Tivo. If I watch the show after it airs tonight straight through with commercials, will my viewing count towards the rating? I want to help this show succeed this season.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that if you have Tivo, you have up to 3 days to watch it with commercials so that your viewing will count towards the rating.

While this season opener appears to have put FNL into the cliched murder/self-defense killing subplot territory, bear in mind some critics have seen the 2nd and 3rd episode and are okay with the start of the new season and how it unfolds, so, let's not panic after just this first episode.

I'm optimistic that it'll unfold in a rewarding style.
All in all, a strong season opener, imo. So glad to have this show back on the air -- hopefully it thrives on Friday's.

Yeah, Baby! That's what I'm talking about!
Was that baby not the cutest thing you've ever seen?
What about "The Saracen"?
WWRD?
Is it me or was the 'yahoo preview' different? I seem to remember that Tyra was actually getting attacked when Landry hit him.. in tonight's episode he walked away. Is that still self-defense?

I thought the yahoo version was different. Online, I thought there was more wrestling around and "that lance kid" hit him in the back of the head with a bottle.

Oh boy, Landry's in deep!
Lyla's a Bible thumper now?
something tells me Coach is on his way back to town...unfortunately he has no job to come back to.
amd yeah, the previews I saw looked like Landy hit the guy on the side of the head with a bottle. That's the confrontation I was expecting...

You know when FNL first came on the scene I didn't really watch it. Nothing gripped me to it and the only thing I knew was that it was related to the movie and it was about football. So I gave it pass. But when it came out on dvd and was priced competively at $20 I snatched it up as a total blind buy. I didn't watch it for weeks. I had heard it was good but I just didn't want to watch it. I thought it was going to be crap but I guess deep down I was afraid that the critics were right and it was awesome. I just didn't want to get attached to a great show with fears that it might go away like Veronica Mars or Arrested Development.
Well, I watched it this week and watched it every day to get ready for the second season premiere. Holy Jesus was it ever awesome. I'm still afraid that NBC might axe it but I'm glad that I did watch it. I really enjoyed it and it features one of the most geniune onscreen families I've ever seen. The Taylor family love comes only second to the love of Noah and Claire Bennett.
But to the second season opener. I liked it. I like the Landry/Tyra story. Sure I, too, was screaming "no they better not do what I think they're doing" but when I look back at both the situation and the characters, I think it's the most obvious choice. We're going to see some interesting stories with those too.
Back on the season finale, at the end with the parade I was sure thier shirts said "2007 winners" but on the premiere I thought I heard and saw "2006 winners".

I just got back from watching the Kingdom seeing Kyle Chandler and Minka Kelly in cameos in the film. Great episode tonight.

Good episode. Hope the 'murder' is wrapped up quickly. The new coach will get booted by mid-season and we'll have Kyle back as the coach is my prediction.

I didn't like the ending, but every minute up until then was excellent. I just have to remind myself that they did this last year, at least twice. First with the paralysis and then with the love triangle. Both of those scenarios had me rolling my eyes at first, but they made it work.
I loved Riggins and Lyla running into each other in the parking lot just to show us that he's over his guilt

I'm surprised at the kudos of this premier. I loved last season. It was one of those rare shows that transcended its genre and became something approaching if not outright reaching brilliance, so I was really pumped for this season to start. By the end of the ep, my main thought was that they should have stopped at one season. I do not like the murder/cover-up angle one bit. One thing that made this show so special last season was that the characters were so believable. This was not believable to me. I do buy that Landry could have reacted that way to protect Tyra, but then to dump the body in a river? C'mon, that screams plot device, and this show, at least last season, is so much better than that.
I am encouraged to hear that the critics say it gets better, and last year's season opener was weaker than the following eps, so I am not giving up on it by any means, but I hope it gets back quickly into the territory it established last year.
