I've spent a bit of time searching for it to no avail and its kind of nagging at me.

Here is what he wrote if you don't want to visit that site:

I saw this movie years ago in grade school, so the details might be a touch hazy.

It was a short film that featured almost no dialog. It was an old man who wandered around his farmhouse alone, looking at and lovingly touching all his stuff, a photo of his wife, sad music is playing etc. Then eventually he leaves and gets in a truck and drives off. It then cuts back to the farmhouse where all his worldly possessions are being auctioned off (presumably by the bank, I guess). They milk the melodrama when they sell the photo of his wife for $0.50 and keep cutting back to the old man in the truck.

Then he drives down this lonely stretch of road, and the camera pans over to a sign that reads "Dead End". The end as the truck disappears behind a hill.

I always thought that it was a really disturbing and weird thing to show small kids, but I saw it a few times between in the ages of 6 and 10, always at school. I seem to recall it being about a half hour long. Also, I'm from Canada, so it might be some obscure Canadian National Film Board oddity, this could be a total longshot.

Any idea on the title? If I had to guess I would say it was made in the 70's but I don't know that for sure.

Why would they show this numerous times to grade schoolers? As the guy said, it must have been some sort of educational film and the Canadian National Film Board sounds like a good lead to me. Send them an email.
