Boston Legal *90 minute Season Premiere* - "Beauty and the Beast" - 9/25

"Beauty and the Beast"
Spoiler:
When a major university accepts a donation for environmental research from an oil company, Shirley Schmidt reneges on her own donation and is sued. Alan Shore defends her but is shaken when he meets Lorraine Weller, his opposition and an old flame. Denny Crane is arrested for soliciting a prostitute and Carl Sack, a senior partner recently transferred to CP&S Boston to run litigation, butts heads with Clarence when he discovers an internet video of Clarice singing in a local competition. Meanwhile, Jerry Espenson assists Katie Lloyd on her first case, a grisly homicide.

Shows start a half hour earlier.

Should be another good season especially coming off an Emmy win for Spader.

I wonder how they will explain Brad, Denise, Paul and Claire's departures.

S3 was a major disappointment (and Spader winning Best Actor Drama was beyond absurd) so I am hoping for a rebound. However, 4 years is the typical shelf life of a DEK show, so I have my doubts.

Brad is gone? When did this happen?

After they added John Laroquette, they announced that all the characters I mentioned would not be returning. But, I heard that Brad and Paul will be back as guest stars for a few episodes.

First, I was kidding
Second, you don't headbutt ever

Laroquette makes a good edition though I don't like him sleeping with Bergen. Seems like Brad may still be involved in the show.

Fun show tonight. I always say this show isn't must-see TV, but I really, really enjoy it.

I actually liked S3 for the first half of the season, but hated the Bethany/Her mom stuff with Denny. After about ep 12 there was just a huge fall off in entertainment value imho. It rebounded a little near the end.

The cast changes don't seem to bother me on this show, haha.

This episode was way too long at 90 minutes.

The opening was gold. The rest - meh, although Alan's ex was very pretty (bringing back Rhona Mitra would have been better however).

I'm surprised that they are wasting John Larroquette's talent playing the straight-man in this ensemble.

I agree that it was too long and too stale. The Clarence thing is a dead horse, as is the "Hands" thing and now they are just annoying cartoon characters. They've added new characters so they can cycle them through some rehashed plots. Having watched all of the episodes so far, I feel compelled to keep watching, but I found myself thinking "I hope they cancel this show so I don't have to watch it all season". I know that's totally illogical, but I have OCD when it comes to shows I have watched for a long time as if I have some investment.

I understand what you are saying. This show could easily become the high maintenance, bitch girlfriend you wish would move to another city.

"Monogamy only works if you cheat"

I agree about them wasting Larroquette so far, Shatner and him should be comedy gold.

Isn't Saffron Burrows the kiss of death for whatever film/show she appears in?
