I honestly didn't know there was that much demand for a Resident Evil 3, to its credit, it is apparently a huge step up from #2 (which means so much with so little wording.) Impressive to see Across the Universe crack the top 10 with only 276 theaters, at the same time, it wasn't a huge haul.

Damn, that's a pretty impressive Friday for RE. All that marketing/commercials must have worked.

People want to see Across the Universe....Quit F'in around and expand it into more theatres will ya Sony.
Not bad for RE3. Just watched the first two last week and to my surprise the first one wasnt nearly as good as I remembered it to be and was somewhat of a bore while Resident Evil apocalypse I found to be much more entertaining and enjoyable than I remembered it to be. At least it had a lot of action.
BTW , does anyone know when the last time was that All of the top 5 movies were rated R....

Looks like RE3 will crack 20 Mil this weekend. Chuck will crack 10 Mil thanks to Jess's undie scene.

RE3 is doing way better than I would have ever thought. I saw Eastern Promises last night. Seems to be doing decent numbers, but not quite as big as I might have hoped.

Resident Evil 4 is pretty much guaranteed. Both previous RE movies opened with similar grosses and also dropped heavily in their second weekend, but then do huge sales on DVD and make tons overseas.

I actually thought Good Luck Chuck would make more (Despite bad reviews and all)

I sincerely hope the drop off for Across The Universe is huge. And hopefully Eastern Promises will do better as word of mouth spreads.

Sorry, but that's how I feel. Julie Taymor needs to learn that she is not god's gift to cinema.

^IS there a better female director out there? I don't think so. Yes her movie are highly stylized but I think Titus is one of the best directed films ever and Frida was well done as well.

Sorry, but that's how I feel. Julie Taymor needs to learn that she is not god's gift to cinema.
And Joe Roth needs to learn that he's not only the worst studio exec-turned-director-turned studio exec ever, he's also the Anti-Christ. So what's your point?

I didn't see a single ad for it on TV and the only movie trailer I saw was months ago. Basically, I had no idea it was coming out this weekend.

I saw tons of ads for it, and bus station ads, and trailers in the theater. The teaser was in theaters since February with Ghost Rider.

I've seen non-stop ads for this movie on TV, both this and Good Luck Chuck were advertised ad nauseum on cable.

Well, the Assassination of Jesse James is up next. So we'll see how it fares. Can Pitt do better than Crowe/Bale?

On the merits if its a good film, we'll see. But finacially I don't think so. 3:10 to Yuma has more action and bigger stars and a more digestible story. Assassination... will be longer, more arty, and less action than Yuma, so its audience will be limited.
But it does look great, finally saw a trailer for it in front of Elah.

They just lost a large chunk of the ‘movie going’ audience.
I’m not a huge Brad Pitt fan but I’m looking forward to seeing The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (fu*king, long a** title) because it was filmed in Canada, & in my hometown of Winnipeg no less. The Story also intrigues me as well & I’m a sucker for stories about Jesse James. I’m going to see it when it comes to DVD because I don’t go to the theatres anymore (wait for the DVD). Of course if I did go & see it in theatres I’d probably have the only theatre to myself.
Brad Pitt might be an A-List actor but after Babel’s Box Office performance it shows that doesn’t mean much.

:hscratch:
For the type of film it was, Babel did quite well in worldwide box office. (135m). But I would agree Pitt didn't start earning his paycheck until Troy (both it and Mr and Mrs Smith grossed nearly 500m). I don't see a profitable future for Jesse James though...
