National Treasure: 2-Disc Collector's Edition --> 12/18/07

According to ultimatedisney.com:

The set will include all of the 2005 DVD's bonuses plus additional deleted scenes introduced by director Jon Turtletaub, a sneak peek of the closely-timed sequel Book of Secrets, and the featurettes "Ciphers, Codes, and Code-Breakers", "On the Set of American History", "To Steal a National Treasure", "Exploding Charlotte."

I enjoyed this movie but I think I will stick with my single disc version. There's nothing there I really need to double-dip for.

(Sorry if this is a repost, I did a search and could not find another thread.)

I haven't picked it up yet, figured there would be a double dip prior to the sequel. If the price is right I'll pick this up.

Damn, I just picked this up for $6.99 at Best Buy a few weeks ago and now the upgrade...duh I should have known better. I will consider an upgrade if there is a free ticket to see Part 2 and a commentary.

For me, only worth an upgrade if there's a commentary...

Just bought this at the Flea Market for $4. I think I'll stick with it for awhile.

Since I don't delve that deeply into extras, Ill stick with the one I've got. Although I would like the BD version when it's ready

I'm very happy with the one disc release. If it has moviecash & a real good price I could possibly be tempted.

Got my current one for $5.98 last black Friday. Not sure if its a good enough movie to merit a double-dip.

If you happened to buy the original DVD at Best Buy when it was released, there was a bonus disc included. The extras on the bonus disc are: 1) On the set of American History 2) The Exploding Charlotte 3) To Catch a Thief. These appear to be the same extras included on the new release. The new release may have one or two other extras but without the movie cash included, I think I'll pass and keep what I have.

Same here...but additionally, I would also consider it if it had an improved transfer (not that the initial release was bad mind you).

Allegedly, it will offer at least an exclusive sneak peek of the NT sequel. Perhaps, as tofferman mentions, a stepped-up transfer, too. I'm an owner of that Best Buy bonus disc and was pretty bummed to find out I'd be getting next to nothing new with this so-called upgrade.

I think Disc 1 is a copy of the original release while Disc 2 has the additional extras.

Here were the extras from the 1st release:
• On Location featurette (12 minutes)
• Deleted Scenes (8 minutes) with optional audio commentary
• Opening Animatic (2 min.)
• Alternate Ending (2 min.)
• Treasure Hunters Revealed featurette (9 minutes)
• Riley Poole's Decode This!
• The Templar Knights (5 minutes)
• Verizon Bonus
• Trivia Track

Here are the details for the new release (from DVDActive)
Disc One
• 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen Transfer
• Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio
• Multilevel Treasure Hunt
• Alternate Ending with Optional Director's Audio Commentary
• Deleted Scenes with Optional Director's Audio Commentary
• Opening Scene Animatic with Optional Director's Audio Commentary
• National Treasure on Location
• The Knights Templar
• Treasure Hunters Revealed
• Riley's Decode This!—Plus Three Puzzling Challenges

Disc Two
• National Treasure: Book of Secrets Sneak Peek
• Additional Deleted Scenes with introductions
• Ciphers, Codes and Codebreakers
• On the Set of American History
• To Steal a National Treasure
• Exploding Charlotte

So it you already have the Best Buy Bonus disk, it makes this purchase hard to justifly for a few additonal features, no new film transfer, no movie cash for the sequel. But if your a true completist......

Eh i'm a little reluctant if this is worth of a double dip...if it's got a free ticket i'll probably be in. Anyone see the artwork for it yet>?
