Weeds Season One $10 at Target (YMMV)

A friend of mine told me that Weeds season one was marked as $19.99 at Target but it rang up as $9.99. This is probably YMMV but maybe other people will be able to take advantage of it.

Great show.
Terrible DVDs - not OAR.

Season 2 is OAR. I still haven't been able to justify buying this one. I've seen it for very very low, and the fact that it's MAR just bothers me to death.

I think I'll just get seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray sometime in the next year or so.

I didn't notice anything unusual with the transfer it so maybe it was shot in 16:9 with everything important framed within the 4:3 area, like many shows aired in HD. Either way, its not cool that the SD-DVD isn't 16:9.

I bought season 1 last year, but I didn't find out it was supposed to be in WS until I read a review of the Blu-ray.

^ in the first episode, when nancy and celia are watching the soccer game, one of them is basically cut in half (i forget who) out of the frame. i'm sure there are other examples also but i remember right when i first watched the show, i noticed that immediately. so i think it was actually framed for 16x9, meant to be shown in widescreen. why they decided not to release it that way, i have no idea.

Because the people who 'own' our culture have no respect for it.

It rang up for me at $19.99 in Eau Claire, Wi. I still wanted it for that price, so it wasn't a big deal, but the $9.99 thing is definitely YMMV.

Most Targets have Price Scanners scattered around the store where you can check the price w/o having to go to the register.

The Showtime preview freebie disk a year or two ago had the Weeds pilot in glorious widescreen.

If you have a Region-free player, I believe the R2 release of Weeds Season 1 is in widescreen.

Hasn't been released yet. I had it on preorder from amazon.co.uk since last March. The release date has been since bumped to April, June, September, and then my pre-order got one of those "this item will not be available until ____" and it was a date in 2008. I finally canceled it. Not sure if the 5-10 wait they now list is accurate...

To me, the fact that it isn't OAR means it's not even worth $10. Good deal for others who aren't bothered with it though. So, thanks OP.

I just got back from the UK yesterday and I could swear I saw it in HMV over there. I even remember turning it over and seeing the 16:9 marking. HMV's website says it came out on 9/3/07:

You probably did end up seeing it. My only knowledge was based on the ever-changing amazon.co.uk release date. I would have considered re-ordering it, but now I'm just planning on a high-def release sometime soon.
